Official Asus Rampage IV Extreme Thread

cheers Mr B will try that tonight once i get home from work.

had a few more driver crashes on my ati cards before i could shut my system down last night so im wonderering if it is either fautly ram or that the system has become unstable with 8 sticks in.

i did see some posts on extremeforums saying the same sort of thing that the board was unstable with 8 sticks in.

I had that too! At first i couldn't get Windows to install with 8 sticks (but the BIOS recognised them all ok), then when i finally got Windows installed i got constant AMD driver crashes on the desktop. After i lowered my RAM voltage everything worked fine and didn't have any more problems, then i also re-installed Windows and it worked first time after that.
I tried some other memory timings last night and they worked no problem, so seems it's just the memory voltage adjustment that fixed it for me.

Some of them were probably by me :p

Hi Mr B

Where do you go in the bios to change the voltage I did notice that the voltage was stated on the ram at 1.5v but the bios was showing at 1.67 I think will have to check when I get home

Under the first tab in the BIOS, think it's called "extreme tweaker" if you scroll down it has "DRAM Voltage (CHA, CHB)" and "DRAM Voltage (CHC, CHD)", change both of them to 1.5v which is your memorys rated voltage. If that dont work you can try some other voltages but dont go higher than about 1.65v.

The BIOS's for this board seem to be very poor with memory... it should be detecting your RAM type and setting it at 1.5v but instead it's using way more voltage than needed, infact anything over 1.65v is too high and isn't recommended! But my board also set 1.67v by default too. Asus need to sort this out!

well tried all 3 bios including the beta bios none of those made any diffrence and motheorad was showing that all dimms were connected but only 24gb of ram.

tried reducing the voltage to 1.5v and set the timing to match the ram still didnt make any diffrence.

i noticted that in the motherboard infomation disc supplied with the board that it was stating that no memory was installed in channel D1 and D2

so tried it with 4 sticks in insted with 1 stick being in D1 and system was posting 12 gigs of ram.

so removed one stick of ram from channel C1 and then was only posting 8gig and not 12 gig.

so removed stick from D1 and system was picking up the 8 gig of ram installed.

so set it to two channel with one stick being in D1 this time only 4Gig of ram.

finally tried it with just one stick in D1 and system would post at all so looks like channel D1 and D2 on the board are faulty.

Hmm yeah looks like a faulty board :( Last thing i can think of is resetting the CPU in the socket, being as the memory controller is on the CPU if it's not connecting to the board properly it might be causing this.

Dont suppose you have any other memory to try in the board? and did you run Mem Test on the memory? Cant see it being the memory now though but atleast you'll know nothings wrong with that as well.

yup luckily i had some kingston hpyer x that i was using with my rampage 3 extreme same problem when i put it into dimm channel D1.

Is it likely to be the cpu as once i got into windows with the timings and power there wasnt a single problem within windows apart from it only posting 24 gig of ram?

I suppose it's possible that it could be the CPU, but i've built over 100 computers and i've never had a single faulty CPU. About 80% of the time it's been faulty memory when i've had any problems, then it's the motherboard. So if it was me i'd send the board back..

Well purchased this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-065-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

But the board is only picking up 24 gig of it and not the full 32 gig, i checked in the bios and its picking up that all the slots and full but not picking it up in the main section of the board and only saying ive got 24 gig.

Any suggestions?

Ive tried the 901 bios and that didnt make any diffrence and i downgraded to the current offical bios which didnt make any diffrence either.

i did get a issue with one of my cards stop working when i was running the beta 901 bios.

is there any details regarding that beta bios just relctant to use it at the moment.

not sure what else to do.

That Memory is not in the QVL List.

The memory is but not under a 32 gig bundle, the problem isn't the ram though because it's only happening on two specific dimm slots and I've tried other ram which didn't make any difference

I'm looking as well but I think I will go for this

At least if I want more, i still have room for four more sticks.:D
