** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

i have a cheap Akasa Genesis case, with 92mm fan at the back, and an 80mm fan at the front running at 7v, my gpu never seems to go above 62/63

I had this problem i had to completely remove all old drivers from the system, then re-start before installing the official 9.11 drivers.

Did you do it through control panel and device manager or did you use the ati un-installation tool?

The blue pixel 2D crash was fixed by the 9.11 drivers for me :).

To remove the stock cooler, it is just the 4 tiny screws around the core on the back of the card.

You can change your paste or cooler and if you ever need an RMA, just put the stock cooler back on. Just like with CPUs. OCUK shouldnt mind so long as it is returned as it was sold so they can get it replaced by the manufacturer.

Gigabyte support forums even told me the exact same thing when I had some gigabyte cards - their cards at least would still be serviced as long as they are returned as they came.

Right now I am running at around 75 degrees with my custom coolers, whereas the stock ones were exceeding 90, even 100 at times. As far as graphics card failure is concerned, they should have a much lower chance of failure now, then I just stick the default cooling back on when selling them after my next upgrade.

Once you get used to it, it becomes as easy as lego, and lowering temperatures is always a good thing.

yeah it does seem to a select few that suffer from this problem, as there is a fair few over ocn as well maybe down to a driver error rather faulty gfx card, the reason i dont want to rma is these are awsome in 3D hmm

EDIT..any ides how to unscrew the last screw on the back it wont budge even with a bit of brute force...dont want to damage that card

With a 30 in 1 precision screwdriver kit?

:p.

If you are using the thin jewelers / watch screwdrivers, stop what you are doing and get a set with a chunky squeezy handle that allows a good grip.

Screwdriver manufacturer name is not allowed here as it is a competitor.

heres mine after a copuple of runs. Max settings at 1280x720, card is overclocked.

Those are nice temps - you said you had egg cooler right?

Ive been testing out a single shroud coolered 5770
Ive just run the same benchmark as you, same res, same clocks 950/1350 with stock voltage, all settings at high including aa/af.
My temps were in the range 65-67 after running it for 5mins or so.
So it looks like egg may be more efficient.
Does the egg cooler actually alter the speed of the fan or is it fixed speed?

This is v.odd,

When playing NFS Shift using Msi Afterburner to watch my Asus 5770s the one card shows 100% usage and the 2nd shows only 40% whats going on?

Now that a fair few people have them can any one else confirm when in 2 d (surfing the web etc) do you get like blue pixels on your screen like artifacts then disply driver stops responing maybe time for rma?

You could try swapping the cards around (you're crossfiring right?), i think for desktop/idle use only one of the cards is actually doing the work. Or you could try each card singly to see if one is misbehaving only. If its both id guess its more a driver error.

Farcry 2 maxed out at 1920x1200 is showing 63oc on One Card and 58oc on the other.

The hotter of the two cards is working harder though (shown by the gpu usage chart) so those temps are fine.

Quite suprised tbh.. as one of the cards has a 5-6 gap between the intake and my sound card :o

Clocks are 900 - 1200 : Asus 5770 Crossfire.

Egg cooler, yes. It does alter the fan speed. It starts at 32% at idle, and goes up to about 39% at full usage.

Well im joining the 5770 crowd tomorrow after 10 years with nvidia.

Ive gotten bored of everything just working on my PC so i'm looking forward to a more exciting future of crappy drivers and crashing games:D

Its not much of an upgrade but i'd need a new MB, processor and Ram to really benefit from anything faster anyway.

Any top tips for new user of a 5770 and infact an ATI card of any sort?

Got my asus cards and I'm quite impressed. Didn't have very long to try them out but managed 24k in 06 and 14k in vantage. Far cry 2 was very smooth and often got over 120fps. Temperatures seemed to top out at 60 on the top card and 58 on the one below although this was only after short benchmark runs (2 mins or so) idle was about 38-39. At full load I could not hear the gpu fans above my 2 case fans.

one of the cards is always hotter , same on my system even at idle . it's drawing hotter air in the cooler off of the back of the lower card as their is not as much room

well have put in for RMA cheeky buggers wanted me to call a 0871 number to get the rma ...oh boy did i have nerd rage! anyway will see if they replace them. Any way the point of the post i was messing with asus doctor..its not up to much but i did find the max temp before the card gives off alarm bels is 90c so id benching 80-85 should be the top safe hope it helps someone:)

Hi

What PSU rating would be sufficent for 2 of 5770 in crossfire.Along with a P2 965,dvd writer ,2 HDD maybe a couple of case fans ?

Cheers

Martyn

Yes, the first card always runs around 10 degrees hotter then the second.

The best thing you can do to reduce the temperature easilly is to replace the stock thermal paste with MX-3, if you dont mind removing the cooler that is.

How do you spread the MX-3? The all over thin layer method or the stick a small blob in the middle and rely on compression method?

I have a 650w one running everything in my sig. You want a denet one with plenty of amps on the 12v lanes.

I can't wait for some decent drivers for these cards.

I'm definately not getting the best from them in games, in terms of bug free gaming.. and performance :(
