** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

So what's the general consensus on these then? As previously stated i am looking at this or the 5850 but seeing as i only game at 1680x1050 i think the latter might be a bit OTT. Has anyone encountered any games where they've had to dial down the settings? I'd like to get one as they're cheaper than a 5850 and actually available but don't want to be left disappointed.

A 5770 would be faster than your 4850, but not considerably so, they are about on par with a 4870 speed wise.

A 5850 would be close to twice the speed of your 4850.

When you put it like that makes me think it's not worth bothering with but with 5850 prices continuing to climb and with christmas coming up etc. i'm not sure i'm going to be able to afford one for a while :(, hence why i was looking at this and hoping it would be good enough.

You have a nice X48 board, why not just pick up a dirt cheap 2nd hand 4850 from the MM and go Crossfire, a pair of 4850's is still a damn quick setup and will slap a single 5770 all over.

Purdy aint they :D

Just wish they'd make the Crossfire strips a bit fancier looking, stupid horrible brown things that they are

I had a 9600 sat at the bottom as well but it covered the vent for the psu so have decided against leaving it in. Things get quite warm in there as it is.... ;-)

In answer to your question dmxdex2020, IMO right now selling the 4870x2 and buying 2 5770's would be a sideways step rather than an upgrade; the theory is that as the drivers get better with age these cards will perform more like a 4980. The million $ question will be how they perform in DX11 games though (one of the reasons why I haven't gone crazy and bought a 5870 or bothered to wait for the x2 varient)

Hopefully these cards will be champs in DX11 games as the api is more well written and I would have bagged a bargain for £249

If I had an X2 I wouldn't change to 2 x 5770's, or even a 5870 personally.

Performance in current gen games is so similar it isn't worth the cost to change.

I'd skip this gen and wait for the refresh/next gen DX11 parts when full DX11 games are actually out.

a lot test show 2 4770s to outpeform a 4870 x2. but might just wait until next year summer time, money might be tight by then though.

ARGH keep getting numbers mixed up lol. So should i just stick with my 4870 x2 then?

get yourself the new shiny gear, you know you want to, i get one tomorrow :D, with stock of the current 58** series and the pricing of them it makes sense to get the 57** series, flog it in 6 monthes and buy a 58** series for half what there at now, and by then they'll be a few dx11 games to take advantage of the power

simple really, unless your pockets are overflowing

Your card has at least another 6 months left before Dx11 games become more available. hang on to what you have and see what Nvidia and Ati have out in 6 months. With the current games you will see no advantage of getting a 5770 over what you have.

whats the highest people have got when overclocking the 5770 ? , what voltage were you using ?

I can max the overdrive settings for core and memory for both cards. Although i dont see any improvements in game over the standard clocks, I get a bit more on benchmarks.
