** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

Here's a little teaser...

Standard HD5770 flashed using the guide I made, overclocking is so much easier and by doing this, powerplay does'nt get disabled above 960/1445!

So...

Core i5 750 @4.2Ghz
Gigabyte P55M-UD2
Single HD5770 (Unlocked) 1100/1450

Ive been testing my pair at various frequencies:

The CPU is running at 3780 Mhz with turboboost, and the vga ram is at stock speed of 1200 Mhz in each initial run:

GPU @ 850 Mhz, P14690

GPU @ 900 Mhz, P15578

GPU @ 960 Mhz, P16124

They seem to respond really well to GPU increases, just hope I can unlock the upper limit to 1 Ghz and up soon. I'll be increasing the ram speed next.

Keeping the GPU at 960 Mhz, and increasing the ram:

Ram @ 1250 Mhz, P16797

Ram @ 1300 Mhz, P17020

Performance decrease at 1350 Mhz ram - P16773 (I tried two runs, similar result both times).

Ram @ 1445 MHz, P17215

It makes no sense overclocking the ram beyond the rated speed of 1250 Mhz, the gains above this frequency are pointless, but overclocking the GPU on these is good.

Finally, modified with the Asus Bios and running 1000 / 1250 on Windows 7 (all above runs were Vista):

Windows 7 makes a difference for me :)

P18168

This is a healthy upgrade for users of 4800 cards, just sell your 4800s and grab these. They are slightly slower than the 4890, but your not ever going to notice the tiny difference :)

Tomorrow I get 12 Gigs of Geil 2133 Mhz ram and will be doing a clean full set of benches like this one all on Windows 7 this time.

I modified mine like a crazy person:

Im a modaholic :(

What coolers are they on your 5770's please ?

Zalman VF950s. They are about as good as the stock cooler at 80% fan speed but without the noise, and Enzotech MOS-C1 vrm heatsinks.

The VRM ramsinks remianed cool to the touch after the GPU had peaked at 85 degrees at 1000 Mhz for about 15 minutes. The Zalman cooler was burning hot though =D.

I assume they are fine though as they are just the retail version of the Gigabyte 4870 cooler.

Heres my max overclock on the GPU:

4870 512mb >> 5770 1024mb worth the upgrade?

I used to be at 1280x1024.. then got a new screen and am now on 1920x1200

The 512mb 4870 stuggles a tad on GTA IV

Any resolution over 1680 x 1050 requires more then 512mb of Vram, so there should be a performance increase upgrade to a 5770...

While true, the general consensus seems to be that the 5770 is geared up for newer games at 1680 x 1050 and below. If you're doing the majority of your gaming above that then it may be wise to consider a second 5770, or a 5850 etc.

I just caved and ordered the Sapphire card that is on offer to replace my 4670. Should be a rather lovely boost at 1920x1200 :D

Any chance someone could measure the spacing between the four cooler screws around the core please? I need to know if my MP-1 blocks will fit these cards.

Hi. I already did this. Its a 61 mm diagonal spacing, same as the 4770. I actually wanted a quad heatpipe Zalman VF2000, but these are specified to be incompatible with diagonal distances of less than 75 mm.

However, be aware that the dual DVI outputs box is very close to the GPU, and restricts the use of wider coolers.
The VF950 is currently the ideal dual slot cooler for it, and the Arctic L2 pro also fits but is a triple slot cooler making it pants for crossfire.

My Sapphire 5770 has just turned up.
Different cooler to the ocuk picture though, doesn't have the leaf blower fan with the exhaust on the back.

It's got what looks like one of the Zalman flower shaped coolers on it (still double slot) with a tacky plastic shroud on it. lol.

My sapphire one came with the standard black cooler like all the others.. Maybe you got a special one...:D

Oh I'm going to be really ****** off if this is a 5750 in a 5770 box.....

The cooler says 5770 on it too as does one of the labels on the card.

Nah, looks like they've made some with a new cooler design.

Hadn't seen those before.
