*** Official Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Thread ***

Downloaded and played this on the PS3 earlier and I have to say its awesome. I do have to say that the menu system and the weapon unlock/lack of customisation (I'm unaware if this will be the case in the full game) is a little bit of a backward step after playing MW2, but the awesome chaotic destruction of the area and game play more than make up for this.

I really do think this game beats MW2 into the ground, it feels a more pure and balanced game. This is not to detract from MW2 (which I love) however, the BF guys have pulled this one out of the bag.

Edit: I also miss the ability to lie down, or is it me being stupid and not finding the control?

There's no prone. Its due to balance and keeping the momentum of objective based games.

There's loads of weapon customising like sights etc and tons of different weapons to unlock and upgrade so you're well taken care of there.

Anyone else noticed that the attacking team win 9/10 times on this demo ?

Its a lot harder for the defending team to win, because the attackers have so much time in which to destroy each site.

Its about 50/50 for me. I keep the whole attacking team lit up though. Been on some great defending teams.

THE MAPS

* PANAMA CANAL

Units in contact are being rotated out as a result of combat fatigue. Weeks of fighting have left the harbor in ruins and the surrounding area littered with destroyed equipment. Armored movement is hampered and deadly kill zones mare the ground. U.S Forces are staging an assault of the industrial port with the objective to seize, retain and exploit the area. Control of the canal will allow larger-scale Strategic Operations along the South West Pacific coast.

* VALPARAISO VILLAGE

The American capture of Valparaiso is the next phase in their strategic plan to repel Russian Forces from Chile. Any U.S. invasion will inevitably consist of a land assault through the outlying jungle areas and an amphibious landing of infantry and armored forces along the coast. The U.S objective is the Power Station on the outskirts of the city. If the installation can be captured and services cut off, the liberation of the city will inevitably follow suit.

* LAGUNA ALTA

Several days ago a large Russian counter attack overran U.S. Camp "Christopher" and destroyed a supply train carrying vital equipment. U.S Forces are mustering to recapture the area. They are trying to establish a buffer zone near the woodlands so their Battle Group can move unimpeded across the bridge connecting the opposing high ground. Intelligence reports and Recon patrols have exposed a large number of Russian troops and IFVs that have reinforced the camp since the attack occurred.

* ISLA INOCENTES

U.S. Forces are desperate to open a supply route for an Armored Battle Group engaged in fighting further inland. A Russian Artillery base controls the area and counters any breakout actions launched. The base is well defended and has been successful in repelling previous attacks. Destruction of the base and control of the woodlands will allow U.S Amphibious Forces to land and open a second front, which is critical in their plan to liberate South America.

* ATACAMA DESERT

A Russian Naval Group is preparing a massive amphibious assault. Defending the shore are 3 U.S fortifications and a string of artillery defenses. Should the Russians establish a beachhead and overrun U.S. positions, they will be free to advance further inland. With weather deteriorating and sandstorms approaching, U.S. Command has consolidated all available forces to meet the Russian threat. As a result of the open ground, a large-scale armor battle supported by attack helicopters seems likely.

* ARICA HARBOR

Following the results of the armor assault at Atacama, U.S Command insists on a similar action to capture the port of Arica. The assault group will launch a "break through" action directly at the Russian base. If the fight dictates, the Battle Group will cut directly through the town located on the axis of advance. Collateral damage is of no consequence. The Russian base must be destroyed in order to cross the desert and reach the port. Heavy casualties are expected on both sides.

* WHITE PASS

As the weather has cleared and snowfall relented, Russian Forces are massing for an assault on White Pass and the satellite relay station located there. The local town has not been attacked, but Russian units have probed defenses in the surrounding woods. The sector has strategic value to U.S Forces as it allows control of inland routes. Should the area fall into Russian hands, a line of advance will present itself directly to Nelson Bay.

* NELSON BAY

Winter halalalala hard. The river has frozen allowing heavy equipment and personnel to operate throughout the sector. However, the extreme weather and surrounding woods make it unlikely that any assault will consist of heavy armor. Satellite reconnaissance indicates Russian Special Forces and airborne units have been pulled away from South America and are gathering on mass. A nighttime assault is eminent. Nelson Bay harbors an underground U.S submarine base that will be defended at all cost.

* LAGUNA PRESA

The valley and surrounding mountains possess a strategic value in the battle for South America. Construction of the nearby Dam was halted when hostilities broke out, but its presence is still a significant factor. Airborne operations are limited but infantry assault supported by light armor vehicles is likely by both armies. U.S Forces are massing all available units to stage a defense and have wired the dam to prevent it from falling into Russian hands.

* PORT VALDEZ

Russian Forces are posed to attack the harbor in an attempt to seize the Trans Alaskan Pipeline. Without regard to arctic conditions, the area has been probed by Russian Pathfinders indicating an airborne assault is planned. U.S interrogation of captured Russian paras revealed that MBTs will be, or have been, airlifted into the area. All armor assets and attack helicopters are being diverted to the sector. No fallback exists for either side. This engagement will decide the outcome of the war.

***GAME HAS GONE GOLD***

Aye... its good to get a game where rather than play with a swaying cross hair you have to adjust and adapt according to height etc.

The sway used to get on my nerves..

KDR is 2.77 atm... looking to increase that 2moro lol :D

Mines 4.85 atm but I try not to go for it too much and will give over my life for the sake of objectives.

LOLs were had earlier as me and my mate were tanking and in the heat of the battle I jumped out to repair. I pressed left on the d-pad rather then right and pulled out the RPG....then without noticing went ahead with the repair.....need I say more :o

Disappointed with this too be honest. Had a little play on the demo and the players were taking ridiculous amounts of damage before actually dying. Shot someone with a mini helicopter for 30secs straight and then he finally died.

Tried a bit of sniping and shocked to see that there was no movement of the scope at all. Even when standing up. Whats all that about?

All seemed a bit too easy and I only had a little blast on it. I think ill stick to MW2.

THe UAV is just that. A lot of people think its actually quite over powered. I think its beastly. Few well placed shots and people drop with it.

Sniping doesn't have sway for balance. With COD there's no bullet travel or drop, if you're sitting back sniping on attackers then it will be easy to get kills but in my experience doesn't do much for the team and in this game its much more about objectives rather then just killing.

As for the damage its halved in hardcore but you can drop people with around 3 quick bursts of most guns. Its just the recoil that means you cant spray unlike cod.

IMO COD is a joke in terms of being an easy game. I sit at 4.2 k:d purely due to ridiculous kill streak rewards that I'm not even controlling. Much more a bingo game then an FPS but each to their own.

I guess it depends who you play with and what games you play I guess. If you focus on just k/d ratio then it is easy to achieve that but if you actively go for the missions then its harder.

I actually found BFBC2 a lot easier. So much that it was a bit boring to be honest. It just seems a bit too arcadey. I also found like the guns didnt have much weight to them which made it feel not quite right. But like you said each to their own.

I think in terms of challenge its hard to judge at the moment. The player base currently on the demo isnt going to be the same as the player base on the final game. Lots of people just downloading for free and booting it up and having a bit of laugh.

As for the arcadeyness that's exactly what I dislike about COD. I just find it far to arcadey in ceratin areas. However they are both full on arcade games its just that lies in different places for different people.

Yea that it, no jeeps only about 1 quadbike

If they were alive then I would ;)

I just think the only thing thats improved from BC1 is the squad system. The map is boring, the weapons ineffective and the damage model seemingly unchanged. Shame as I really wanted it to be good :(

Not saying you should enjoy the game as clearly your not but most of the BC1 forum users were upset with how easy is it to drop people. I'm only using the xm8(?) assault weapon at the moment and it seems people only take around 3-4 bullets and with that weapon I'm killing squads of 4 with one mag if I burst fire. Give it a pop.

I think a couple of quad bikes may be good but then the quad bike is a powerful tool in the capture of objectives so maybe it would be too much to have multiples.

Only time it got on my nerves was when I killed myself with the RPG :p

I was inside a building that had a small gap in the corner which had been made by a tank and it was just big enough to fire through, so I fired my first rocket at the tank and it was a direct hit, it didn't move so I thought I'd do it again. I didn't move an inch and I didn't adjust my aim either, but apparently the second shot hit the wall :confused:

No as bad as the time I tried to "repair" my tank with an RPG as I thought I had the drill out :o:D

I had a play today (PS3) and somehow managed a Team Kill, no idea how. Just noticed it pop up. Also quite enjoy using the UAV, can really take out and spot plenty of enemies if you use it correctly.

Its possible to get teamkills a few ways. Most likely is through destrution 2.0

What's the highest rank you can get on the demo? It says I'm at rank 2, but on the scoreboard it's rank 3, and on the stats it says I need 4 million+ points to get rank 3 which is pretty impossible. :confused:

Rank 2 is the highest you can get. You can phyiscally get to rank 3 but it will take a very very long time. No ranks will be carried over from the demo though

any chance of a supermarket price war on this?

Hopefully.

Quick funny one Gordon Van Dyke (a dev) plays the xbox live demo and has access to all the guns. If you're lucky enough to play with him you can pick up his kit.

*new theme up on xbox as well today*
