Can anyone recommend some good briquettes?

My favourites, Aussie heat beads, seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Big K used to be alright and I can get them locally. Any other suggestions?

I've used the Weber ones exclusively for a long time now. Can get them for quite a decent price (2 for £25) at Longacres garden centres if you have one near you.

Weber ones

Got a bag for £11 at Notcutts at the weekend

Thanks guys. I got 10kg of Bar-Be-quick from Go Outdoors for £12 which seemed decent. They had Weber for £16 also but after seeing what you guys are paying for them I wasn't having it :D.

Hopefully these are Ok for simple grilling. going to try tonight and report back. I'll keep look out for deals on Weber or hopefully Heat Beads and stock up then.

Cheers

Has anyone tried the brisquetta from John Davidson butchers? I've read it's meant to be really good.

It does sound interesting, but I don't think I'm up for buying beef that's been frozen and shipped from Australia when we have such good beef available here in the UK.

I'm also not sure I'm willing to give money to people who write this sort of thing...
The Brisquetta is not just another cut of beef; it’s a carefully curated experience

OK so I did two tests in the last 48h. One with briquettes using snake method and the other with just lumpwood with a few large chunks and some medium to small.

1st test with briquettes was this.

Took an hour to get to temps and then the temps only sustained for about 5 to 6h..

2nd test was this.

Arranged the lumpwood in sort of like a pyramid and then lit up from above using a fire cube starter.

Unfortunately my probe decided to not work (going to replace it) but it diddnt take long to get to temps. However to my amazement the fire went out in about 5hours ish...

I'm now left wondering why it diddnt last?

My bottom vent was only slightly open and the top vent was 1/3 open.

Both times all the coals were burned off to ashes so it's not as if the coals were starved from oxygen.

Was about to put the thermometer probe on again but the lumpwood was all done

I used weber briquettes and the kamado Joe big lumpwood chunks (they come in red bag)

Edit. Using a weber kamado
