*** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

Well that's me finished with BS2, sad as ever to see it end :( I truly love these games.

+ Gameplay improved a lot.
+ Plasmids improved, I love the stage 3 plasmids but imo they come in too late in the game.
+ Graphics seemed to have been improved a fair bit and it runs slightly better.
+ Nice selection of moral choices throughout the game and the option to harvest more ADAM than ever.
+ Good atmosphere. Underwater parts
+ Fantastic art direction.
+ Good selection of new enemies
+ Hacking is a lot better

- Too many weapons I just didn't even need to use, I don't even think I used the launcher. The only weapons I used frequently were shotgun, hack tool, drill and rivet gun. Most of the others were pointless!

- Didn't feature Fontaine (Atlas) or Andrew Ryan, well not really a bad thing since they died in the first but I bloody loved those chars but dissapointed there were none in BS2 that managed to replace them or match the gravitas they held

- The difficulty, on hard anyway is disproportionate throughout the game. Near the end it becomes insanely easy where as half way through you find yourself frustrated as hell. So IMO the difficulty should have been balanced out better.

- The game was lacking what Bioshock 1 had, bad guys with stories to tell on how they'd become insane.

- We had stages of different badies in BS1 we would find tapes and clues and then eventually find them spliced up in different ways, it just added more depth to the game, this game was all about chasing one woman who tbh wasn't very interesting anyway. Andrew Ryan definitely had more gravitas.

TBH not a bad game at all, it did manage to move me and evoke different emotions like BS1 but not as well.

IMO BS1 is the better game even with the new gameplay tweaks etc.

Oh and the ending most definitely wasn't bad at all a lot better than BS1

Not sure what update does but I'm seeing reports on the official forums of it removing the ability to hold down a key. For example, holding fire with machine gun equipped fires just a single bullet.
I'm clicking 'no' to installing the patch for the moment just in case.

Epic fail in that case...

Can't say the minigun is much use anyway. Anti-Personal aint bad when you're in a 'defend' situation and Armour Piercing is nice when you're up against Big Daddy/Sisters. But in general it sucks. Compared with the Rivet Gun with its consistant 1 hit kill headshots on weaker foes and very high damage (+burning) in general.

Spear gun is epic though, my first real chance to use it, defending a little sister... sent the first 3 Splicers flying down the corridor with a Spear sticking out its head.

Oh yay... they're updating through LIVE. Meaning i've got to start the game, be told to update, then let it update, then restart the game again, then repeat several times (if RF Guerilla was any indication). GFWL really is a system developed by retards.

grr i just wanna be done with this game. Its far far far to linear for a bioshock game its rince and repeat all the way through. *find a LS , defend LS do the other stuff, get on the train)

Im always running out of ammo and the splicers seem to take a lot of health of me. The atmosphere isnt even on par with Bioshock 1.

Its not a bad game but its no Bioshock 1. This is the first game this year i want my money back for.

I probably have a lot of the game left im only upto siren alley :(

Any idea how this will perform on a Radeon X1950 Pro 256mb? I know it's scraping the min specs but I'd like it to be playable. The original looked great and if I can make it look anywhere near that I'd be happy :)

Dunno if this has been posted before or not, but just had chance to try and play this after finding out my savegames were not readable by the game as i have moved my documents to another drive...

Seems this game doesn't like it if your doc's are not in the default location. (C:\Users\NAME)

Anyway.....

Heres the fix.

Reason is that the ini file will be pointing to the wrong location for the save games.

1. Go to - C:\users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2\Bios hock2SP.ini
2. Open the .ini file with notepad so you can edit the file
3. Find the line SavePath=Savegames (Use CTRL + F and type savepath into the box, hit find)
4. Change the flollowing...

SavePath=SaveGames to SavePath=H:\Bioshock2\SaveGames Or what ever yours is.

Maybe I'm resistant to change in my old days but I prefer the first one a tad more. BS 1 felt more like a spiritual journey to me whilst BS 2 feels like a good FPS game. One of the developers said in a video review that they didn't want BS 2 to feel that they're just showing you more areas you haven't seen yet. I agreed at the time, but now I wish that they would've just opened those areas and left it as it was.

I don't like playing a Big Daddy, it's too weak and don't feel the same as the Big Daddies in BS 1 felt like with regards to fighting them.

Saying all that, it's still early days in the game for me so hopefully my mind changes.

Ive just suddenly realised something...the Circus of Values no longer talks :(.

I came to the point where i had to decide, harvest or cure, stupid as it is i couldnt bring my self to harvest her when she was looking at me all sad lol, i know what a tool eh.

Same lol, Ive saved them all so far. In BS1 i harvested them all and felt really bad, so completed the game again saving them all :o.

The thing is it always works out better to save them... i was debating that to begin with, then figured you always get gifts of Adam and a unique plasmid, so i'll just save them.

I wish they'd fix the research. You're fighting something like a Big Daddy/Sister, a fight you can get a fairly large amount of points from, but the instant you hit a 'level' marker the research just stops even though you could've progressed it way further.

You can get a plasmid that increases the research time. Got it last night but i haven't equipped it yet.

Speaking of Big sister fights, i was fighting her last night and suddenly a big daddy rushed in and started helping me :D. Awesome! He didn't do very much damage to her, but its the thought that counts.
