*** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

Just played multiplayer for the first time, found it incredibly easy and as a result, quite boring. Especially when you get into a Big Daddy.

Is this just me or does this game not feel right with mouse and KB?

It just feels wonky and there are too many buttons to use, left click shoots the thing in your right hand gets me all the time.

So obviously i go and plug in my 360 controller thinking i can enjoy the game now. How wrong was i! they don't support the 360 pad what a joke.

Does xpadder work?

xpadder works fine.

ebnozal on the Steam forums has done a profile.

Awsome game so far. Underwater stuff is really cool, especially the floating furniture. Got past the lack of AA after a few hours of play but wont be visiting this baby again....which is a pitty really because 4xAA & normal Field of View could make this game look a lot more appealing to the eye.

I find Bioshock is an experience to play & repeat goes can diminish this effect. Crysis on the other hand ive played a quadrillion (trillion isnt worth jack these days) times.

Searching is a must because you simply walk past it the first time around, especially the wide open multiple door area's. If youre not carefull you'l walk past gun upgrades (increase damage dealth), Eve/AIDS or what ever its called, & money.

Story is engaging, specifically the Big Daddy/girl link but half the characters i couldnt even name. First game had a really nice touch that caught my attention. It was father & mother talking about their kidnapped daughter Marsher (something like that).......after several audio tapes hinting at their despair, you find two bodies with a bottle of pills next to them. Not had a moment like that yet but im only half way through.

Some cool play with shadows impressed me but i have to ask why this wasnt done more (ala F.E.A.R), as it didnt effect the performace in the slightest.

If you bind the 'use' key to anything other than default, you search a corpse and then can't loot it. Real annoying.

Meh, the further I get in the more bored I'm getting, rinse repeat the same sequence of events in every area, in dated looking surroundings, with little to no story. Finding the tapes incredibly boring to listen to with the massive majority of them being entirely pointless.

The combat feels wrong, the everyone hits you with every shot thing just makes it feel ridiculous, I'm constantly using health packs rather than fighting, and its still so easy I've yet to die once. Plasmids so far do next to no damage so feel as entirely worthless as they were in the first game, and the guns are far less fun than the first game. Despite being a big stonking big daddy, encased in armour. I can barely take a bullet, where as my upgraded damage guns take 100 times more hits to kill any other big daddy.

They've barely established the narrative, the reason for going through to save whoever the heck it is, they've barely actually given a reason why you really want to.

Theres a serious problem though when the guns simply aren't fun to use, and neither are the plasmids.

Hopefully the story picks up a bit, or the weapons get upgraded to the point they aren't boring, or an upgraded plasmid can actually kill someone.

I've not played much but i can't really disagree. It doesn't feel the least bit different to the first game, only the atmosphere is ruined in this 1.

They didn't even try to adapt the game to suit a Big Daddy as a main character, they basically just copied everything from the first game. First Aid Kits? I'M IN A GIANT SUIT OF ARMOUR! Damage reduction? No. Fearful enemies? No.
You take ridiculous amounts of damage, heal instead of repairing your armour, get attacked by lone enemies as if they think they stand a chance and worst of all, DON'T stun enemies when you smash them with your sodding Drill (this annoys me to no end, getting hit with a wrench after smashing the Splicer in the face with a huge drill).

Sadly this game causes horrible motion sickness for me. I'll have to look into changing the FOV to see if it sorts it. Otherwise I guess I'll just youtube the good bits of the plot :/

I am getting that too. Why is that? I don't get motion sickness in any other game

Too easy? what diffculty are you playing on, im yet to survive a fight with a big daddy, usually kill him after my 3rd death and thats on hard.
After the first level i found it rather easy on Hard. Maybe it had something to do with me completing Bioshock last week and knowing what works.

It actually took me quite a while to get used to the controls and using the plasmids, and for about the first 2 levels i barely used them. I only really used 3 different plasmids and upgraded them fully and left all the others. Finished the game with loads of spare adam :/

Overall i enjoyed it, but a few things i loved so much about the first were missing:
1) The recordings in the original were twisted and amusing and i enjoyed listening to them. In 2, i had to wait till the last level for a recording that made me laugh :(
2) 2 lacked a decent score i thought, and one bit in particular (a hotel i think it was) had some horrible screechy music playing throughout which in the end forced me to keep pressing the recording playback button to cut the horrible noise out
3) I didn't really like and of the characters in this one, probably because of the lack of humour. In the first they stood out, they were funny, you actually looked forward to hearing what new and twisted ******** they would come out with....
Bill McDonagh: Steinman, I know Medical Pavilion is your manor, but you might want to cogitate on this: ocean water is colder than a witch's tit....
Sander Cohen: The Wild Bunny, by Sander Cohen. I want to take the ears off, but I can't. I hop, and when I hop, I never get off the ground. It's my curse, my eternal curse. I want to take the ears off, but I can't! It's my curse, it's my ******* curse! I want to take the ears off! Please! Take them off! Pleeeeeeease!
Sanden Cohen was a memorable character, as was Dr. (Papa) Suchong, and of course Ryan and Atlas ...... oh and Steinman:

Steinman: Four-oh silk and ...done.
Nurse: The nose looks terrific, Doctor Steinman ...Doctor?
Steinman: You know, looking at her now... I didn't realize how much her face sags... Scalpel...
Nurse: Excuse me?
Steinman: Scalpel!
Nurse: Uh, doctor, she's not booked for a face lift...
Steinman: Let's just come in here and... *starts whistling*
Nurse: Doctor... Stop cutting... Doctor, stop cutting... Get me the chief of surgery! Get me the chief of surgery NOW!!!

Who was there in 2 ..... Tenenbaum was there early on, then vanished without a trace - bit strange that, really could have done with seeing or hearing from her further on in the game  There were 2 brothers, both of which i killed without realising i was fighting them!! Oh and god almighty, there was that Lamb woman who by the end of the game was really getting on my nerves ... just kept coming out with the same old boring crap. And finally that bloke who was guiding me, no idea what his name was, just that he looked like someone i used to work with :p

Just lacked atmosphere and humour for me. Graphics wise, i like the engine, it works! If it aint broke, dont fix it! ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if the main reason they use the Unreal engine is that it runs well on the xbox and looks good on it. I played the HL2 demo on the 360 the other day and it looked bloody hideous!

Nope, doesn’t seem to link to steam.

It does tell you that you have to make a crappy game for windows live account though. Not sure if you can get away with not doing so, the message said you had to else you couldn’t save progress so I did, but I think it was still possible to save when I wasn’t connected, so maybe it’s for achievements or something?

Oh really? Just bought this myself and am wondering if this effects the resell value. I don't keep games, I tend to complete them on SP and then get rid.

I'm going to have to wait for a patch or something as i cant play with this ripping. Its ridiculous, every time i turn the screen has loads of lines going down it. Ive never had this in any other game, although BS1 did it slightly, but nothing like this.

I'll borrow your copy till a patch comes out?

I don't get that, just feels like it's really dated so they wouldn't even need to optimise it! :D
Exactly so the shocking FPS & many other technical issues are even more eye opening  I reckon they got a bunch of interns who were doing work experience for free on the PC port ;)

I think the problem is with the branding. It doesn't feel like a squeal to Bioshock because it's too similar. If it was an expansion pack for the first one it would get a better reception but as it is the two games are very similar. I always find it enjoyable to see the new features added but in this case they're more tweaks then anything.

That said I'm enjoying playing through it and I don't think that It's a bad game or anything. I suppose it helps that I've only just played the first one so I haven't been looking forward to it for ages. It I had I can see that I might be a bit disappointed.

Yeah got to admit its a very similar game to the first only thing i found different is new guns, bad guys and a story line but i got to admit i am enjoying it still

I've played this game about 20-30 minutes so far, literally just got to the second level where you are heading to the station.

Playing it on hard as I am a veteran to FPS and that's what it said to go. I played the original on Medium but it felt too easy, like I was just going through the game because I could. There was no challenge and I think I died once which was boring and repetitive.

So far I'm liking the difficulty on the hardest. At best I've only ever got 2 health kits and a few EVE Hypo's spare. Comparing this to the last game when I think I always had 7 of each. A slight annoyance is that splicers seem to hit you regardless when you are drilling them or melee'ing them. Yet to see how hard it gets but I'd rather a challenge than a walk through.

Seems good, saving some game play for the weekend!

On its own its not a bad game, but as the sequel to Bioshock it loses a lot of points. It feels identical to the last 1. Fighting a Big Daddy on the first (before you got the grenade launcher) was like fighting death incarnate. Now YOU are the Big Daddy... and you take just as many hits to kill as you did in the old 1? What gives?

They didn't make any effort to adapt the game to your new character, they just duplicated everything, altered the weapon skins (effectively) and gave it a new story with the odd new enemy. This is the main thing thats annoying me so far. Hell you've even been given the plasmids in the same damn order! Not to mention so far on 2 seperate occasions i've been in a fight where the only way to progress is to 'die', something you didn't know at the time so you wasted kits trying to stay alive.

I'm in the middle of the second level as well, it really does feel like the first one as all the upgrades and enhancements are coming back to me. The graphics don't look any better and that's with a much faster card (8800GTS 640MB to a 4890). It does run slightly faster and smoother though.

I do agree with the comments above, this should really have been an expansion pack, to be called part II of a series and be charged the full price for it is disappointing.
