Just finished Contact, and I've got to say it's a brilliant book, quite a bit different from the movie adaptation.
I've just bought Dune to re-read, I read it when I was 11 or 12 and figure I can probably get more out of the book now that I'm 24.
Also have "The Lost World of the Kalahari" and "A Far off Place" by Laurens van der Post coming soon. Not ever read anything by him and hear good things

Just finished The Beach...really, really enjoyed it. I recommend it
A fantastic book, inspired me to go travelling, and my life is better (or perhaps just more philosophical) as a result.
I've got the Sony PRS-505
Saw one of these in the shops the other day and now really want one
I know the 700 comes with a back light for dark situations but does the 505?
This would be handy for late night reading and traveling.

I have just finished the 2 Chelsea Cain books 'Heart Sick' and 'Sweet Heart' - both are a great read (although not going to win any prizes 
) about a sexy serial killer who has a disturbing way of killing people. Would recommend for a quick light read

George R.R Martin - A Game of Thrones
Book one of "A song of ice and fire".
I am re-reading them after five years. I reckon the series is nearly as good as Lord of The Rings. A tall claim i know but i reckon its justified.

I thought the exact same thing.
I mean in the sense that the books are not overly complicated and hard to follow, good story lines with great characters - 'airport fodder' I believe they are referred to - nice easy read and I couldn't put the dam thing down!Anybody read any of the other books in the Dune sequence? They worth the read? For some reason despite loving Dune, I never brought myself to try any of the others.
Currently reading the next Harlen Coben book in the Myron Bolitar series "Drop Shot". Always a good, easy, light read.
I have read all 6 of Frank Herberts Dune and I would say they are well worth the read although Chapter House when I originally read it did my head in with it's ending. I have also read the prequels but they just aren't quite so good with some being far from good.
I didn't actually follow the plan of reading Deception Point first because by pure luck I found the Night Watch and Day Watch books available. Just finished reading Night Watch and I couldn't put it down. Great book
I might go back to reading Dan Brown before I start Day Watch though.

Not read any of the others but I hear they are well worth the read. I just bought my mother a nice hard-back edition of Dune today for Mum's day

My ideas of what to read didn't go according to plan so I ended up reading As Used On The Famous Nelson Mandela by Mark Thomas which is about the international arms and torture trade. A very well written and caustically funny book about a very serious subject, I don't know precisely how accurate it is but from my own perspective most of it seems to be spot on in his observations.
Now it might be time for Gates Of Fire by Steven Pressfield which is a historical fiction account of the battle of Thermopylae. If I can summon up the enthusiasm I may also start the Steven King book that I put off or perhaps Stone Of Destiny by Ian Hamilton.

One of my fav authors. That series is utterly fantastic. Great storyline & characters.
The only problem is that he takes ages to release the next one. Dance of Dragons has been expected out for about 2 years as it's now over 4 since the last book.
