***Official DC Universe Online Thread***

Probably :p

I haven't really done much yet other than create a bunch of characters with different power sets, can't really see much difference in them just going through the tutorial as they all mostly just use the weapon attacks so far. Although the first fire AoE was kinda cool.

I got another key when i got mine and gave it to a mate, then found out the one i gave him is for the full beta with lvl 30 cap with the main testers and mine is only for the servers that pre-orders and promo's are on with a lvl 20 cap... gutted lol.

Ah no fair lol. I got my key from Jim Lee on Twitter. He was giving away keys like everyday. I was very lucky to get one. It's on the PVE 1 server with a lvl 30 cap. My main character is lvl 30 and I have been busy raiding with a lot of other people to get all the iconic gears. It can get tiresome lol.

Like last night we were doing the Brainiac Sub Construct. After 4 attempts we gave up. The strange thing is I was with another group of people and we completed it no bother. So I think this time it was because we had people who were not fully geared for it.

So for those who want to know, in order to get the Tier 1 iconic gears (all of Flash iconic gear for metas for example), do duos and alerts and raids to get Badges of Triumph. To get the Tier 2 iconic gears (Superman iconic gears and Batman iconic gears) you do only the Outer Caverns, Batcave and Brainiac Sub Construct. These three are actually a story line in which Batman eventually is overtaken by the OMAC virus by Brainiac. With the big showdown against the Coluan himself. It can get brutal. lol. I got some pics that I will be posting soon :)

And one other thing, for those 3 raids I mentioned, you need tons and I mean tons of cash for repairs. I know people who have burnt upto 5K in repairs.

Well most iconics are tied to your mentor but there are some you can get from others. Like the magic stuff. You can get the full Dr Fate suit so long as they are not of magic origin. So things like that are allowed.

And yes the raids are very grindy. With a fully geared out team of 8 people you can complete the Outer Cavern raids in about 35min. Which in itself is a record. But that was before they did the big patch. But it's still doable :)

Don't know about the 3 and 4 servers as I am on the 1 PVE server. Dare not do the PVP server after hearing of people getting ganked so soon lol.

Got my second character to level 30 last night and did a couple of duos. I want to get all of Flash Iconic tier 1 gears to become a fully fledged tank. And I think I will love this character more than my main one. as it's based on the Flash and has fire based powers. Some of which come with self healing abilities. Good for raids when you're getting ganked by multiple NPCs :D

The US PSN store has the beta for + subscribers so the UK should update with it later today. (I know this is the PC forum but some people aren't getting keys so this is another way to try it)

I think I saw an announcement made by DC saying PS3 Beta is now open for European customers. That was yesterday though. So you guys should get the keys now.

Here's some screens i took of the villain iconic armour you can get.

The game really needs some AA :/

Well before the patch it did have AA enabled but the FPS was locked on 30FPS. When they removed it with the patch I can now get FPS over 200 in some places. But it lingers around the 170-190FPS mark. To be honest, I like it this way. It feels much smoother.

Those are some awesome looking iconic armours there. I will try and get some shots of the hero versions and post them.

A quick teaser of my 2nd character called Black Blur. Now lvl 30 and I got me my first mentor iconic armour. Not hard to guess what it is lol:

Finally! colours in the style tab.

There is a lot of niggles that I have with this beta, but the community is large for the beta and they generally seem to be taking in the criticism.

Release should be a great product. I doubt it will knock WoW subscribers but I feel it has its very own place in gaming. I'll be picking it up if it keeps improving like this.

Edit* Are we okay to talk about this stuff in here?

Lol, yes the NDA was lifted 2 weeks ago. Why do you think we have pics posted already in the forum? :D

Really annoyed at the mana changes in general and for Controllers. Some of the changes they've just made are really sucking the fun out of the game.

I wasn't able to get back into the game late last night after the patch. So I haven't had chance to see the new changes. I will find out later tonight when I get home as I am still at work. Hopefully I won't find it as disappointing as you have mate.

Ok word just filtered through that DC Universe Online will be released on Jan 11th 2011. A lot earlier than I was expecting to be honest but good at the same time. Wonder if I can change my pre-order to the Collector's Edition from Play. Going to have a spy now.

Yeah i saw that on the IGN interview earlier and not sure what i think of it. I'll pre-order it tonight as i think it's definately worth it for the free 30 days after playing the beta, just not sure whether i'll play it for more than 1-3 months.

To be fair though, i do have a fair bit more faith in this one than i did in CO. CoH doesn't count as it mugged me unexpectedly at release and stole 4 years of my gaming time :p

LOL!! Here's hoping you don't suffer a similar fate with DCUO eh? :D

The new patch has made the game worse than before. I won't go into specifics but put it this way, only 2 raids are now present and 4 duos. Plus the missions have changed somewhat and your skill points have been reset or any new ones you had before the patch have been taken off. Thanks DC and Sony. Might cancel my pre-order now.

Another patch was embedded last night. Roughly 130MB in size. I think they're going to be doing this until the game goes live.

One thing I did notice, the Outer Cavern raid is now longer than ever lol. I went in with a group of people from our league (BC Raiders) and we were at it for almost 3hrs. Couldnt defeat the last four bosses (Nightwing, Robin, Huntress and Batwoman all under OMAC control).

We tried all sorts of plans. In the end I had to leave cos it was getting late so I don't know if they succeeded after that. I will find out tonight when I get home from work.

This all stems from people who were saying the game was easy. Yet what they dont realise is when you get to level 30, there's a whole lot more to the game than just pottering around looking for missions to do. You have to now raid like crazy to get your brands to allow you to get your iconic armours. They've also changed it now so that you can buy Marks of Triumphs if you have enough Marks of Alliegiance. 10 Alliegiance will get you a Triumph. So do plenty of the Justice League missions and you can get your T1 armour that way. hopefully this will make the game just as fun as it was before the massive patch.

Well I've cancelled my pre-order. Ever since the big patch a couple weeks back, they've made the game not as fun anymore. Duos and alerts and raids are constantly bugged or crashing out. The fun has well and truly been sucked out of the game.

I'm hearing loads of people are not going to buy this game come 11th Jan. Who can blame them? Even me, a big DC fan, can't bear playing a game that is now ruined and why? Cos certain players deemed it to be "too easy". So what do the devs do? Oh yes, that's right, make it ten times harder to defeat NPCs during missions and such. Now the only people capable of doing these missions successfully are those who are fully geared with Tier 2 armour. Tier 1 can just about do it if they have a healer (mainly for duos), but if you've just levelled to 30, you've got no chance of surviving a duo/alert/raid unless you're in a team with fully tier 1 or tier 2 team.

I think the beta ends this weekend, according to a few people but I don't think it will since DC have started giving away keys this week. So it could still go on until a couple of days before release.

I'll still play it til then, but SOE and DC won't get a penny from me until I know it's as fun as it was when I first entered beta back in Nov.

Shame really, I was really looking forward to this game. There is hope. I hope :p lol

Yeah I jumped on last night and noticed there was a small patch. Seems to have made some difference to the game play and to the Contoller roles as well. So far so good. The patch notes also revealed that repair costs are down somewhat and so are soda colas for heals. So it's looking promising but I still am not sure if I will purchase it come release day.

Was raiding again with people from my league. We did the Outer Caverns (as usual lol) and got to the last one with the 4 OMACs. Couldn't defeat them all. I had to leave tho cos I crashed a few times. So no idea if the guys finished it. They did the last time I went with them, took over 3hrs as well lol.

So I'll see how things go tonight. :)

If there's one thing that really kind of disappoints me on the game as it stands right now, and something i don't think that's going to get changed for launch - its the character creation aspect. As it is, there's really NO POINT to character creation at all. Every item from creation is available in game to buy from a vendor, and by the time you are level 4 you look will have probably been completely upgraded with items you find in the first mission area and look very different. Id like this changed to focus less on the costume, and more on the overall physical look and theme of the character.. more skin options, body styles, face creation/customisation etc.

You can change your character's skin and hair now. There's a vendor in Watchtower for the hair in the Aquacultural Area. In Metropolis, go to STAR Labs and there's a vendor outside, at the back of the building next to the water, to change your skin. It is awesome may I say :D

I am still at two minds whether to re-order this again as I cancelled my pre-order when they did the big patch and ruined a lot of things. But it does seem those smaller patches are starting to make things better. There's still a long way to go til it's good enough to be deemed awesome. But so far, it's not bad. Still say a March release would have been better.
