F-14 is now THE benchmark as far as flight sim graphics go for me. Stunning bird:

Having said that, I'm still holding off until they release a simplified FC version, I'm not sure I have the time to learn and keep all of its systems etc in my memory. Full sim module is awesome, but only as an addition to simpified FC - to fumble about with switches and stuff from time to time. Actual gameplay is all FC for me nowadays - same awesome flight physics, but without the memory gymnastics :)

Physics of the FC3 Mig-29 family have been updated to the PFM standard. Needless to say these sexy little planes (THE sexiest Russian planes?) are absolutely transformed now:

The work on aerodynamics is not finished yet, but the quantum leap compared to the old SFM physics is pretty startling :)

It's a free update for all FC3 owners.

Just took my M29 for a spin.
Haven't flown an FC3 aircraft in a while, so needed a little re-adjustment. For all that, great fun, and a whole lot easier to start than the 8 mins+ for the Mirage.

Hello mate apologies I've been busy recently.

I've just had to shell out for a load of building work on the house so I won't be getting it for a while, but I definitely will be at some stage.

Nps, thanks for advising.

Have had a bit of a mare this week.
Went an joined in on an event with a squadron this week. Very nice bunch of chaps, however:
- I've never used SRS before and despite asking to be able to run radio checks at the start of the mission, it didn't happen. In the end, didn't get it running until 30 mins into the mission
- Started up my F18 on a carrier. Finally ready to roll and the pair of us next to each other taxi towards out start positions. Unfortunately, the other chap just picked the easiest to get to position, meaning that I had to take the route around him, and both of us were dumb enough to have already unfolded our wings. A spot of poor taxiing on my part and scratch a pair of F18s
- 5 mins later, aircraft started, go full afterburner to catch up my flight. Finally get there just in the nick of time, i.e. as they're starting to engage a set of Mig29s. Shame that a friendly misread his IFF and stuffed an Aim120c up my ass.
- Another 5 mins later, flying north again to catch my flight and spot a single F18 from flight 3, clearly in a fight with some enemy aircraft. Again, power off to help. At least I avoided the first Aim120c...
All in all, not the best session I've ever been in.

I'm going to polish up my training mission some more and will be on the OCUK Discord channel if you wish to catchup.

Just realised that I'm out and about tonight.
Tomorrow or Friday is viable. No need to pre-plan, just assume that I'll be online, so join if you wish.

I thought I'd give this a try. Just the free download you understand. P51 Take-off and landing only, expecting to crash or blow something up. Watched two or three videos on youtube. Bound controls to my X-52 pro, which has only been used in Elite up till now. Took off, flew around, just one loop. Landed. No bounce, middle of the runway and stopped before the end without piling the prop into the runway. Simulator model, not the game model. All downhill from here then.

Well done! You get more and more into it the more you get on. Trick is try and stay calm, so many of my mistakes are when I'm either excited post mission or stressed out. If it doesn't feel good on approach just go around and have another go

Nice job! I remember how many times I piled up the FW190 after buying it, before I could be bothered to check the stall speed and associated landing speeds. Didn't half make a difference.
It really is completely different to most other games out there. For a combat simulator, have to say that I spend more time practicing the basics of start up, take off, navigation and landing than I do shooting things. Being fair, that's probably not any different to a real pilot. Thinking about it, I've had the F18 for something like 6 months, and try to ensure that I get in at least one carrier landing a day, so probably 200+ landings in that time.

Yesterday was a day to get in some time in practicing air to air missiles. I've done surprisingly little of that. What really helped was using Tacview, which is a 3rd party app that I bought last year. Brilliant bit of software. It captures an output of what happened during a flight and then allows you to analyse it post to see exactly what happened. Gives you a full 3d visualisation of ranges, speeds, altitudes and courses, followed by details of weapon usage, chaff and flares.
I was testing whilst flying an F18 against an enemy Mig31, which can launch it's radar guided missiles from a range of 50 miles. Tough opponent. Then moved into a close combat with IR guided missiles with an Su27. Great way to get some practical experience.

So what do you fancy flying? Choppers, WW2, early jets, cold war jets or more modern? They all have their pros, cons and challenges. The more modern aircraft tend to be easier to fly, but make up for it with more complex systems (e.g. the sheer number of weapon systems that some aircraft can carry).

So what do you fancy flying?
I've been looking at a lot of youtube and twitch stuff. Some missions are not true to life, and the AI reactions don't seem as ruthless as they could be, the learning curve looks very steep. I think I'll practice flying both the free aircraft some and look at more video's to see what's possible before making a decision. Everything appeals, but finance dictates otherwise.;):D

Right on all counts. Take your time. The best way is to grab something during one of their 50% sales. Have a think about what you fancy flying then put whatever questions your have. I have most aircraft now, with the exception of the jet trainers and korean stuff. For all that, I'm probably going to grab a Sabre at some point.

Everytime i come to this thread and read about this, i imagine how much fun it would be in a full motion simulator. A guy can dream.

Check the ED forums if you want to see some of the cockpits in use. There are a small number with motion simulators, though the ones I've seen videos of were the fairly simplistic ones.
Excluding my HOTAS and VR, I use a Jetseat, which is basically a massage seat with 8 transducers in it, controlled by some dedicated software based upon the API output from DCS. Does add to the immersion whilst flying, particularly in the choppers and warbirds, all of which run far less smoothly than the jets.

I don't know if true to life aircraft system management is important to you, if not I'd advise to start with the FC3 module in DCS for modern jets or IL2:Stalingrad(Bodennplate|Kuban|Moscow) for WW2 stuff. The latter game is not DCS, but its physics are made by the same engineer who invented Advanced Flight Modle in DCS.

Both FC3 and IL2 have same level air-dynamics, ground handling and ballistics as DCS, but engines\radars start with one key and so on.
