*** Official DCS World Thread ***

The list of new modules is good, but I believe DCS really needs some work in the core game in lots of areas, but for me particularly air and ground AI, mission editor/API scripting, and ground unit damage models are where I'm hoping they put in the work.
I think the shiny modules will bring in short term cash, but by improving the base game I think that DCS will keep more people around for the long term, I'd certainly have bought more modules if the unguided weapons were more effective.

The new Sinai map is now available for beta/non-Steam users.
Just about to install it.

How long does the early access price offer last? Probably pick this up end of month, been spending money like water here recently and A2A's Commanche must be any day now?

Any day now, in DCS?
Assume that a higher degree of patience will be required.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome and I don’t play much else, but they’re delivery timescales could be measured using glacial timescales

I was tempted to buy it but I don't want to many glass cockpits I already have the F-16, I will wait for the Euro Fighter. Really looking forward to the F4 Phantom.

Just noticed new stuff from VKB coming in August, and Winwing have opened an Eu store ( Suppose only handy if you have friends in EU )

Bought a load of Virpil gear from the new uk store last week. Can‘t complain it’s very nice :) Good to see vkb pushing out some new stuff. Anyone fancy some vkb t-rudder pedals, I’ll put be putting them on sale asap.

Virpil have uk store?! now?

Winwing EU store makes me green with envy. Free shipping, easy returns, tax included 233Euro for this baby

or 212Euro for the Hornet throttle https://eu.winwingsim.com/view/goods-details.html?id=375 ... Thanks, david Cameron and Brexit (suitably green smiley)

The VKB throttle is an overcooked dud imo. They spent 6+ years on it since the announcement, it looks nothing like what was announced in 2017 and pales in both looks and function compared to winwing above, while costing similar.

On a different topic, I had my first go at using face tracking and was amazed at just how well it is working nowadays! I was always skeptical before, but my oh my... No wires, batteries, diodes, TrackIR etc. Just a simple webcam and you're done:eek::) Completely free too.
I've recorded a quick dogfight to share just how usable it is. It tracked nicely even in this one circle flow dogfight, where i was looking over the shoulder or straight up most of the time (the tiny jerky bits in the video are due to me resetting zoom, not the tracker's fault):

I've never liked the look of VKB stuff and i find the weird fanboism on reddit some what off putting, and when i bought my gear i went Virpil over WinWing cause i hated the look of those lose cables on the throttle, Virpil kit is fantastic but the software is like pulling fing teeth, should be a one and done thing but as i play multiple titles from space sims to DCS and MS flight i seem to spend too much time messing around in it.

For head tracking i strongly recommend DELAN clip, i have the wireless headset mount thingy and the battery lasts for even the longest sessions.
I just cant learn in VR and im very much a learner in DCS so the DELAN clip works great.

For head tracking i strongly recommend DELAN clip,
That's what I'm using myself, I was just surprised that face tracking without the clip is so close in accuracy and stability. Moreover, facetracker with good settings is better than the diodes/clip with the default/suboptimal settings. I'll leave my delan clip on the headset, but will use facetracker for when I want to use the speakers from now on.

VKB - their joysticks are really good which is where they got their fanboys. I'd be one of them if I wasn't into force feedback. Their throttle is a bit of a fail though, especially for the price. Even the Logitech X56 throttle base has better buttons and design (the throttle handle- not so much, plus VKB is undoubtedly better mechanically).

Having bought the F-15E last weekend I gave in to temptation and preordered an Orion 2 F-15EX. Good to see that they don't take the money up front, you're effectively just reserving it.

Will probably remove the handles from the Warthog throttle and use it as a button box, assuming it will still function in that state. Can never have too many buttons.
