*** Official DCS World Thread ***

I have had an AB9 for several months now. I use it centre mounted in my setup, which is an aluminium profile. For the grip, I use a Virpil Alpha Prime.
My previous base is a Virpil CM, so still pretty good

Cons:
- it’s pretty big. Which makes mounting a bit of a challenge. I’ve recently moved to a seat from a BMW F30 sport, from which I removed the thigh support. That’s allowed me to get the base where I want it. Side mounting would be easier, but the only aircraft that I fly with a side mount is the F16
- I tried it with the 20cm virpil swan neck extension and preferred it without
- the software was initially a bit confusing, but now I’ve got my head around it, it’s fine
- it uses two data sources from DCS, ie. The DCS provided FFB data, which is still in its infancy, and personally I don’t yet use. The other type is Telemetry, which I’m guessing is extracted from the data normally provided to say Trackfiles. This isn’t perfect, but does work well. The reason for me putting this as a con is that we are at early days.
- my Virpil grip is seen as a grip, but cannot be configured using the Virpil software. So advanced features such as control of lighting is not possible. No issues with mapping of buttons though

Pros:
- Yes, it does the wobbly bit like a PS controller
- more importantly is the feel. From the telemetry data it knows things like the use of flaps, gear, dropping weapons, G forces, speed against the critical Mach of the aircraft etc. Based up that, you can feel when the gear is going down. When you’re in a dive in say a 109, the resistance increases. In a stall at altitude in the Spitfire, the controls go light.
In an F16, it emulates a force sensing stick. In a chopper the controls are light etc. What it does here is phenomenal
- it’s possible to setup a profile for every single aircraft type, meaning that you can fiddle with say the resistance and inertia without screwing up another aircraft type
- out of the box, Moza provide profiles to represent all of the key aircraft types, eg a helicopter, warbird with different engine types, 3rd and 4th gen jets. I used those as the basis for the aircraft specific profiles that I created

In short, I love it and wouldn’t want to go back to a non FFB base
Thank you for that, seems like a good system but needs time to get the configuration perfect.

Yep, that’s a fair summary.
I regularly tweak aircraft profiles. The positive part being that it’s actually pretty straightforward and not that time consuming if you’re doing one at a time.

Does anyone use force feedback stick like the Moza AB9 ocuk sell? Thinking of making the jump as I love FFB steering wheels.

I mostly fly the KA50, Huey and F18 but buying the Kiowa soon.

My current setup full CH hotas and pedals with TrackIR5 with VR PICO 4.

I feel the next step of immersion is FFB
Sorry for the late reply, I've had a Vpforce Rhino(and recently a monster) for about 18 months now, for helo's FFB is an absolute game changer couple it with some kind of transducer haptics and SimShaker and you can feel exactly what the airframe is doing. For planes(apart from warbirds) it's really not worth it but for helo's don't even think about it, just get it ;)
Not sure where you are in the UK but I'm East London, you're more than welcome to come and have a play if I'm in travelling distance.

Hello, I was looking at the Vpforce Rhino as well but it cost a lot more, but I know that the best one to get.

I live just north of London so not too far :D
Thanks.

What sort of money are we talking about for a VPForce rhino and did you buy it pre built or self build? I really need a new flightstick and was going to go for the Moza AB6 but am absolutely struggling to make up my mind over that, spending more money on the AB9, waiting for the WinCtrl one (and I'd be hesitant with them regardless due to all the horror stories) and possibly building a VPForce as I own a 3d printer and would be more than happy to get my hands dirty I think.

There’s at least one person building Rhinos for people, you’ll find them in the For Sale sub forum in DCS.
They are however a good deal more expensive than the AB9. I get the impression that the Rhino is better to use, but on top of the cost, effectively has no warranty as it’s home built.

Yeh, like I said though, I think I'd be quite happy building my own but wondering how much it's likely to cost, I guess I really need to spend some time looking through all the guides and stuff to work out what I need to purchase for a build. Maybe I should just get an AB6 and then build a VPF Rhino without any self inflicted pressures :D

FFBeast is another alternative. More powerful than the Rhino= no cooling issues, longer extensions, heavier grips, more precision around the center. It's also made of steel and aluminum vs Rhino's plastic and is very similar price wise. You could also get a kit and build it yourself for around 400-500 notes. https://ffbeast.github.io/docs/en/joystick_DIY_metal_kit.html I was all set to get an FFBeast kit myself, but then stumbled upon a mod that removes force feedback deadzone on my trusty MSFFB2 joystick and this cured my upgraditis for now :D
"2026 and beyond" is DCS speak for sometime in the next 10 years if you're lucky.
Always look on the bright side of life, tu-tu-tu-tu ;) Infantry loading-unloading animations are looking sweet and seem to be in the final furlong. Choppers, ground pounders and even basic airport operations will be livened up no end when it comes. The new F-14 is looking near complete too. Rafale - here I'm with you, this will take the proverbial 10 years.

Theres a decent discount on Winwing stuff at the mo.
I got the F16 stick, with shaker, F15EX throttle base, and the pedals with the damper for less than £900...

I really enjoy the cinematics from the "Beyond" videos, but I do not understand the frenzy that the DCS community gets itself into over this.

Particularly this year, when they'd "leaked" the Rafale in the poster a week before

I still think DCS gives the best feeling of flying over any other sim we've got available to us.

Ref the feel, absolutely. I also have usual list, FS2024, IL2 (GB, CLOD), Xplane, Falcon BMS, and still much prefer the engagement that I get with DCS.

Ref 2026 and beyond:
- the Rafale will be behind the Eurofighter and Tornado, so probably 2-3 years away
- the infantry enhancements to how natural they move was very impressive
- maybe we’ll get Vulkan this year. They did mention performance improvements for the first time that I remember
- Iraq and Afghanistan will be finished. I like both, so that’s cool
- some interesting aircraft inbound, eg Zero, La7, F1M
- they had a floatplane in the vid. I assume it’s AI, but haven’t seen one of those before
- some new ships for the Pacific theatre

All in all, good stuff.
No mention of the dynamic campaign. That surprises me a little

I would say Rise of Flight (for WW1) and Condor (for gliders) feel every bit as good as DCS flight dynamics wise. But, relative to all the above, DCS reigns supreme, I agree.

I've not tried Rise of Flight, maybe I should. Not sure Condor would be for me.

@Mr_Sukebe, there were images showing the Dynamic Campaign map. Seemed interesting that there was a lot of focus on ground units, particularly infantry, and I suspect this is driven from the dynamic campaign requirements, and probably also the Chinook/Hercules side of things.
I have to say though, I'm fairly numb to the hype train. I do enjoy flying with what we've got, and if the "in the futurrrreee" stuff arrives then great. But I'll only buy more based on current capability of the module, no longer on promises.

I assumed the infantry clips were just showing off, which bearing in mind how good they looked, made sense to me.

I wasn’t sure if they were showing off what appeared to be an updated browser based version of the mission editor, or the dynamic campaign.

Definitely get where you’re coming from about new modules. The Mig 29, Herc and Kiowa and 339 didn’t grab my attention and I don’t really care about the F104 or Mig17.
Over the weekend I was out in the Viggen and Harrier

Although I've never tried the Viggen properly, I love flying the Harrier.

I don't fly Harrier often enough, but when I do it takes an hour or so to regain my muscle memory, but then everything works so nicely.
