*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Looks good overall but I'm not entirely impressed with some of those 'takedowns'. Particularly the one where he jumps off a crate and runs up to two guys who don't seem to react even though they're facing him.

25 minutes of gameplay,

@ 4:58

you can go through the entire game without killing anybody, if this is what you fell like doing

Looks like deus ex is going back to it's roots :D

Actually, the whole setting and gameplay of both those videos makes me think the devs hold the same opinion of DE:IW as most people on this forum.

As in: Sequel? What sequel? ;)

Pause the earlier gameplay vid at around 0:25 and look at the inventory screen.
  • One mod selected, space for 21?
  • Each mod has a complex upgrade tree, 8 for the hacking device, 3 for the cloak, 8 for the strength mod etc.

There are praxis points, xp points and credits. So if I had to guess:
  • The xp levels determine when you get / can buy mods.
  • Praxis points 'buy' upgrades.
  • Credits buy everything else

That way more complexity and options than a typical console button masher. I see little evidence of consolitis, except the weapon selection popup, which isn't to bad. And the PC version will probably have quick-keys anyway.

Looking forward to getting my conspiracy on.

I tried playing the original Deus Ex without killing anyone...

The only character that you HAVE to kill is Anna Navarre. You can't get out of UNATCO otherwise.

Gunther Hermann you can let live (blow off his legs with a rifle-grenade and he will run around like a girl and let you past). You can avoid Walton Simons the first time around (take a route through the water), and just blow his legs off the second time around.

All the other enemies can be avoided, or just tranquillised. It's a real PITA though, as you will rapidly run out of tranq darts!

God I hope this is as awesome as I want it to be. The trailer is beautiful but has no baring on the quality of the actual game. Fingers crossed the gameplay is as varied as the original.

On play, under the listing of the game, they have a video showing a mission you get when pre-ordering with them, shows a fair bit of gameplay not seen in any of the trailers.

Surely you'd be better sneaking and hitting them with a Baton? I imagine the Silent Running aug would actually be useful for it (whatever it was called). Could see some fancy work with Cloaking and smacking people on the back of the head too :p

It does look good but it also seems to be a long way from the FPS/RPG that Deus Ex was... all that 3rd person leaning against walls/objects and popping out. And if anything was learnt from Red Faction, its that Rail Guns that shoot through walls do not improve the game in any way, shape or form.

*after visiting this thread has reinstalled Deus Ex with the intention of doing a no-killing playthrough*

God damn you :p

Gonna see how things go with a melee/tranq approach and stealth. Not sure how it'll handle Commandos or MiB so things could get interesting when i'm in Versalife.

Quite difficult doing it with no-killing playthrough on realistic setting :O.

I have just found my old copy of deus ex and nearly finished it!

Tbh it really isn't as i've found out. The only real issue is with it not registering backattacks properly sometimes so you don't 1 hit knockout enemies so they kill you. Charge Prod will easily 1 hit KD any enemy and i've got my Dragons Tooth Sword for any mutants (and cameras and turrets and practically anything else that isn't indestructable). Lvl4 Silent Running is awesome, so much fun sprinting around clobbering guards in the back of the head.

Well that video showed nothing. The only thing that really struck me was how... ridiculous the iron sights looked. It just didn't look right at all.

This, Mass Effect 3, ES : Skyrim, Portal 2, The Witcher 2, Battlefield 3, Diablo 3?? and Guild Wars 2??

What a year! :D
