*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Meh, the more I come back to the thread the more I realise, meh it wasn't that good.

It was enjoyable, but it was too easy and overly simplistic. but then, there was more than one route and most games don't give you that option. However, in saying that I don't think there was one critical area where using brute force rather than stealth made it almost impossible, or vice versa.

It would be nice if you try to stealth some area's but its just basically impossible so you're forced to fight, and vice versa, some area's so massively overloaded with enemies there is no choice but to find a different route.

One little irksome bug was, no matter how "strong" you are, you can't put down even a cardboard box quietly, I don't think it ever alerted an enemy but it was just irritating you couldn't put down anything quietly after picking it up. In a game that uses stealth so much and makes noise an issue, its just retarded.

Basically while good and better than almost anything out this year, as always on reflection you can think of pretty much dozens of things that could be done better.

The punching Aug is quite useful and you'll notice a lot of places to punch in when the walls are highlighted. I think theres 3-4 praxis kits to be had from punching, some easier routes, and in general it was useful and I only got it half way through the game as I was running out of crap to buy at that point.

Due to the weapon mods the aiming aug's were almost entirely pointless. Most of the aug's, except hacking, were pointless, two of the hacking ones were utterly not needed and the hacking mods made hacking "too" easy.

Inventory seems like a massive issue with me...just found the rocket launcher which took up 50% of my inventory :/

yeah same here dude, i am looking for a hack, cheat code to make Inventory twice as long, or at least 3 columns longer :(

20 hours into second play through, and just at Picus now :)

Managed to pick up a lot more Praxis kits, simply by hacking more and exploring more. This point I have pretty much everything I really need aug wise. I might try the punching through walls one, if people find it useful. Maybe it will come in useful second time in Heng Sha and beyond?

probably because average Joe's on consoles can have "fun" (no fanboyism-have x360 and ps3 myself) we all know why games getting easier and easier..
still, not that bad as i though it will be,its probably impossible repeat original DX without Warren Spector, father of DX..just hope he comeback for next game (hope lol)

yea most levels were pretty crappy compared to the originals multiple choice routes...

I wouldn't say that, there is about the same level of choice in both games in terms of choices i have found.
The first game is the same in terms of if you are a stealth character you have to find a sneaky way in to places.

in this the games multiple choice routes are basicly..

A through the door
B through the vent in the wall
......

Again, i have found multiple ways to get in to places, for example in the police station there is an entrance on the roof, you could shoot the place up, you could creep through vents or you could get the guy to let you in.

Likewise the building where you believe the hacker is hiding that's under lockdown, i ended up sneaking past the guards and going in the front door but when returning for a side mission i noticed many other ways in.

I have started noticing that stuttering issue now too, though i can barely see it, i probably wouldn't have noticed it at all if you lot hadn't mentioned it:p

btw, i like the people comparing the game to the first one unfavourably and then saying the hacking is too easy, when hacking in the first game was just clicking on an object:p

I would say it is possible to stealth every area. You just need to be patient, and use the cloak properly. I only tend to take out the guards for the XP, but I have ghosted quite a few levels. So it is do-able.

Given there is an achievement to not trigger any alarms and also one to not kill anyone, it is possible to stealth all the areas.

As for ways in, like Pighardia said, there are multiple ways into some place. The police station can also be accessed via the sewers. The hackers hide out can be accessed in several different ways as mentioned. I think we are trying to pick too many holes in games now. Can we not just enjoy something anymore :(

The cloak is terrible though, even fully modded. And I have to say I really don't like the way they've implemented the charges/batteries, why not just give us 100% like in Deus Ex?

Ummm;

I am discovering that, after fully upgrading it:(

I agree, it is one of those things that either needs to be patched and they admit it was a mistake, or a mod which charges it is released quickly like the one for blocking in the Witcher 2 (where everyone just realised it was ridiculous)

You mean, the Inventory Upgrades you get which expand it by 2 columns each to double its size? If you're going all out combat then recoil, aim, inventory and armour are your 4 critical upgrades.

Though honestly I don't see the point in the Rocket Launcher at all. You get it in the same room as where you fight the huge robot and there is very little ammo for it and very little use for it elsewhere. Not to mention you can down these robots with a single EMP grenade.
You'd be more likely to spend your inventory space on a Sniper Rifle and Heavy Rifle and stockpiles of ammo.

Is it just me or does there not seem to be enough upgrades in the game? I've put every upgrade I found since the start of the game on my Pistol and its still only halfway to being fully upgraded. And thats just a single weapon, its spread even more thin if you have several.

Its not just you, i was very thorough and I didnt max the pistol damage and ROF. I actually gave up on it as it could still perform OHKOs on enemies and instead focused on the heavy rifle which is much more useful for bosses. I could have maxed it if i didnt focus on the rifle I suppose(which i didnt max either). I still picked up loads of reload mods, some of which i didnt use.

I thought the plasma rifle was pretty amusing, you get it right near the end and you can put plenty of upgrades on it but by that point you dont have anything to upgrade it with and may as well stick with the heavy rifle.

Have to agree with what you said about the rocket launcher, it doesnt even destroy the big mechs with one shot which means emp grenades will always be better as they require minimal inventory space by comparison

I also agree with what was mentioned earlier about the battery charging, I have no idea why they decided it should only charge the first point as it makes putting extra praxis points in cells pointless. I still put points into it near the end anyway as I had praxis coming out of my ears :p

Does anyone know many bonus points do you get for ghosting an area? I've never even come close to managing it as its too much hassle and i dont bother with putting points into stealth earlier on

I wouldn't go so far to say the cloak is terrible...It's useful as a tool. But it's not intended to be used all the time. If it could be used all the time, people would be complaining it was too easy to stealth!

The one change I could make to the batteries, it making the base charge increase as you upgrade the number you have. So maybe five batteries could have a 2-3 base charge. Any higher makes it a bit too powerful again.

And you get 500 XP for ghosting an area :p Not too hard to do in some areas. Others take a little bit more patience.

Since the availability of energy bars makes the lack of recharging batteries pretty much a non issue, I think it's most likely they did it as a way of further restricting inventory space. They could have easily ditched the energy bars and had full battery recharge for the same effect, but then it's quite obvious inventory is intentionally limited.

One thing I would change is the fully upgraded inventory should just have been standard, because even then space quickly becomes valuable and you're forced to make choices on which play style you want to lean towards. I think I'd have been annoyed at having to drop things I wanted to keep every 5 minutes if I'd not put praxis points into inventory, as it was the balance was decent enough. I still dropped plenty I'd have liked to have kept, but then I'm sure the idea is very much if you want to see that stuff, play it again :p.

Yeah, the energy bars are quite common. I got pretty good at only slightly popping cloak, and then letting the battery fully charge again. If you did that, you could keep the charge up.
