Maybe I haven't seen enough footage. What I have seen looked like an action game with a few more choices than usual. All it would take to put my fears to rest would be footage or a few screenshots of an inventory full of items and a gui that looks nice on the PC.

ok, I may have changed my mind a little bit http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/05/11/ten-things-you’ll-think-playing-deus-ex-3/
So there you have it! Deus Ex: Human Revolution arrives this August. Be more excited about it than you’ve been for any other game ever made, but also preemptively disappointed. You know it makes sense.
I know there will be things I don't like about it, things that I think should have been done differently or not at all. I know that I'll still love playing it though.
This is what I think also. But I will always pay full price and support games like this. So they keep making and improving them
Much rather this type of game compared to say Crysis 2 :/
Actually, what you buying this game says is, "keep dumbing down these games and catering for people who have trouble thinking beyond the next ten seconds, and I'll keep giving you my cash and rewarding you for barely trying".
That's on the assumption that it is dumbed down garbage - which imo it looks like so far.
In your opinion, that is what I am saying. The game is not out for us to make such judgments. If you said that about say DA2 or ME2 I could understand. In both those games they dumbed down the games a lot. That is why I probably won't buy ME3 at full price, but when it hits a fiver. But like DA2, I won't miss out either.
startingly obvious and conveniantly placed crates

Crucially, you never feel weak. In the first Deus Ex, if you were a sneaky type and got caught, or you were a murderous type and took a lot of damage in a fight, there was a sense of failure. Human Revolution gives the sneaky guy tools to correct being located from his very first mission (punching that enemy who just walked into your hiding spot, or activating your camoflage to make your escape), and by swapping numerical health for regenerating health, the murderous type can no longer make mistakes.
Now, it’s just a fantastic ride.

Well obviously I'm going off what I've seen so far, with the map telling you everywhere you need to go, highlights around anything, startingly obvious and conveniantly placed crates and obstacles/objectives and so on.
