*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Yeah 32 bit can only address 4GB maximum of RAM/VRAM.

So I don't know how it's managing it for you right now but sounds like it's not prioritising the VRAM. Get 64-bit. :p

Or take the unorthodox route and take out 2GB of RAM...

I run Metro 2033, Shogun 2 and Shift 2 at max settings (only use 2xaa due to rez) 2048x with no issues.

I should also note that my XP is heavily tweaked, only uses 120MB (commit).

Am I better to use Edge AA or Low FXAA i.e. which is lighter on my GPU?

I take it triple buffer uses more VRAM?

Give it a rest. That comment was clearly aimed at you saying you might redirect steam via the US and your mention that games may be cheaper in USD. Anyone reading that can easily assume you're recommending purchasing in another currency which is bannable. I did not question legitimate reasons for being abroad and not being able to purchase games, Steam specifically states using proxies to purchase in another currency not being there legitimately.

Well, couldn't find anything in the Steam Subscriber agreement about not using proxies.

Still, not the best idea really to constantly buy in another currency. But it's a lot harder for them to tell when you're on a VPN to really being there surely.

eventually you'll mess up and they'll wonder why ytou were in the uk only a few minutes seconds after buying a game in the us

I would recommend not using a VPN for this.

Just a couple more days, no need to compromise your account.

The chances may be slim but it's still a chance if you do it. :p

Edit - bleek, turn off any post processing effects like blur or DoF, crap like that, see if that helps.

True. But I personally wouldn't go that far to start buying games in the US and then playing them on a UK connection. Not to say it might not happen. But if you're sensible about it, they might not find out.

Either way, maybe best to leave this topic, as it's getting a bit heated.

I didn't *recommend* any such thing, anyway this is MASSIVELY off topic, so if you want to discuss further start a new thread.

Wife turned on PC in the UK with autologin?

Ok I can now play the game, it appears to be a bug, if I change ANY graphic setting to lower than DEFAULT it alerts me I don't have sufficient video ram.

Leaving it on DEFAULT (max everything) it runs like silk... it also looks really nice.

So there you have it, weird.

That is very weird. No such issues for me on Windows 7 64. Maybe it's an XP bug.

Well the game looks gorgeous and framerate high and smooth even with everything on max, have to say I've always been impressed with my 5850!

Just to add the game is only using ~1GB of system ram.

Reading a few things it seems that while its not actually stated, Valve do not approve of it and will ban accounts for it. I know you didn't explicitly recommend it sld but you consider doing it for yourself and it reads like saying its a good idea. And yes, /offtopic

Anyway, the question is, do I try out cloak or not. In the preview I did a game where I went for all out hacking (lvl5 hack, lvl3 stealth) and there are so many locks that basically hand out free experience by hacking its unbelievable, but it looks like Cloak could be interesting too. Would be awesome to do a no combat game where you avoid absolutely everyone and everything.

A couple of places i've read recommend getting the hacking skill up early as it unlocks exp later in the game. Whether it puts you overall ahead or not i've no idea. Just finished stealthing the first mission but knew how to do that one already, so it's all new to me from here on in.
