*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

If you didn't play the original, would it be a problem playing this first?

No problem at all, it's a new story with fresh characters, the over-riding theme is based on the same/similar premise to Deus ex, but from what i've played of the beta you don't need any prior knowledge of Deus ex to understand what's going on in Human Revolution.

there are a lot of in jokes/crossover trivia though.

(the elevator code the emails from maderly the emails about putting a skull gun in jetson)

That's a good review.

Anyone who's bought the standard/augmented edition directly through steam care to give a reason for doing so?
If only they would offer the extra ingame bonuses with it, I wouldn't hesitate.

Of course physical copy is cheaper and you get physical extras, but I don't like the idea of not being able to resell the game in the future (I only keep boxes of my top few games up to the present). Already got that with buying valve games as retail.

My copy from the shop of to got dispatched today too (dont get why some people have hated on them in this thread great service from them all the time also never had any issues)

Okay one question why are people using VPN?? I ask as i thought it was a risk to do so by quite a large margin?

To people here who have played it also what do you think? Reviews are all loving it thus far.

Am i right in saying i connect via vpn, try and buy via paypal and then download it?

Don't buy it via VPN. Buy it over your usual IP.

And if you want, activate via an American VPN. If you want to.

People using VPN as they don't want to wait until Friday to get a game today. The release date makes no sense. It's got bugger all to do with normal stores. Valve and Blizzard can release a game worldwide online and in stores on the same day, no reason other publishers can't. Frankly, the excuse for delivery days and selling days is BS.

Yeah i agree devs are lazy when it comes to PC release dates and steam etc. Think i will wait thou till Friday anyway i waited this long for it couple days wont hurt.

I need to go and play some more of this, but after the football :p

Will keep me tied over until my girlfriend gets back on Thursday night. Hence my justification for unlock it today ;)

I'm trying to play mainly kill free just now. But I will mix it up a bit now and again. I would imagine the bosses would be manageable without having insane weapons, as I would imagine they would have thought people would play it all stealthy.

Argh. My brother just told me WHSmith entertainment has closed down so our preorder has been cancelled. Not even had an email or anything to update us. Really annoyed at that. It was supposed to be £26 only for the PC Augmented version. :(

I unlocked earlier and went into offline mode.

Have since gone back online to get the 12MB patch and offline again - no problem with being blocked.

If you login with a UK IP the games does revert to pre order until you go back to the US IP. It stays unlocked in offline mode.

On another note does anyone keep getting a driver crash something to do with kernels??

No. But if so, it will be your drivers. Not the game.

Definitely has the feel of the original, there are few elements that feel dumbed down for the mass market but as a whole I'm enjoying the experience thus far.

The cyberpunk environments reminiscent of the original are helping fuel the nostalgia!

Trying to decide if it's worth building up my hacking skills now, or later on.

Doing a lot of stealth currently, so maybe an idea?

There are a ton of places in the Detroit hub that need hacking and loads in some of the missions too. There are a few lvl5 locks in the city/apartment buildings and 1 in the helipad so yeah you would get quite a boost by doing it. I remember finding crossbow bolts in 1 room but no leads on a crossbow ><

You don't have to hack to get at whats inside them as you can buy auto-hack devices and save them for lvl5 locks, but then you'd lose an awful lot of goodies (ok technically all the exp you gained from hacking would be cancelled out by the cost of the augs themselves) but theres an awful lot of stuff to be found.
