Apart from Steam getting annoyed, are there any risks of using that free VPN? E.g. malware or anything else?

Edit: Sorry if a dumb question, this is all new to me.

A couple of places i've read recommend getting the hacking skill up early as it unlocks exp later in the game. Whether it puts you overall ahead or not i've no idea. Just finished stealthing the first mission but knew how to do that one already, so it's all new to me from here on in.

There are a ton of places in the Detroit hub that need hacking and loads in some of the missions too. There are a few lvl5 locks in the city/apartment buildings and 1 in the helipad so yeah you would get quite a boost by doing it. I remember finding crossbow bolts in 1 room but no leads on a crossbow ><

Nomal is £23 on greenmangaming and AE is £30 using the special 20% code on their front page. Not sure if I should get this game yet though.

I assumed they were going to screw this up like they did invisible war, so had been ignoring it up til now. Reviews and general opinion are very impressive though! Loved the original deus ex and rank it in the top 5 games I have ever played. Couldn't resist ordering this one now, fingers crossed it lives up to the good feedback!

A VPN will just port your traffic from your PC through a special encrypted link to another machine where it will go out to the internet from there. There is no real risk doing this, I've done it quite a bit before with steam (I didn't approve of the delay for FO:NV)

Reading a few things it seems that while its not actually stated, Valve do not approve of it and will ban accounts for it. I know you didn't explicitly recommend it sld but you consider doing it for yourself and it reads like saying its a good idea. And yes, /offtopic

Anyway, the question is, do I try out cloak or not. In the preview I did a game where I went for all out hacking (lvl5 hack, lvl3 stealth) and there are so many locks that basically hand out free experience by hacking its unbelievable, but it looks like Cloak could be interesting too. Would be awesome to do a no combat game where you avoid absolutely everyone and everything.

I so wish to do this too BUT reading reviews it seems you will be stuck at BOSS BATTLES if you don't upgrade guns, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...... :(

Sweet. Cancelled the shopto order and decided to go for the AE on GMG. Got the code, stuck it into steam, pre-loading now.

Rumour going about that they've pushed out a patch to prevent early region unlocking - so if your game just updated on steam and doesn't work now that is why (this is rumour btw I've not confirmed it for myself).

Is it possible to download & activate without Steam updating the game?

It downloads the latest version so no. Though I highly doubt its true. Releasing a patch to stop early release? That would mean the game can figure it out but Steam can't which would seem a little weird... or possibly just invasive.

There was a 2GB patch after unlocking before the game was playable, I downloaded it from the UK servers.
