*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Well i have played for about 3 hours tonight and i am loving it so far, really impressed with the variety in terms of approaches to gameplay. Running on a 6950 with everything maxed it does look very nice in-game, but i don't like it in games nowadays where the cutscenes are completely different to the game. Basically cutscenes look completely different aesthetically to me, which is something i am not a fan of(though it is hardly worth complaining about)

just wish there wasn't third person BS in it

 I think it is excellent, what do you lose by having it in there? I think it is very well executed as well

Anyone got a rough idea how many Praxis Points you can expect to get?

I would like to know this as well, i thought about saving my first point but in the end i put it in to an extra power cell thing

So... Game Of The Year 2011?
I'd be surprised if it received many GoTY awards. It's a very good game, but it's hard to get away from how comically bad both the AI and dialogue (in terms of script and delivery) really are.

Neither are affecting my enjoyment of the game, but those are two very clear areas where the game has a whole lot of room for improvement.

So... Game Of The Year 2011?

Still a few corkers to come yet.

To be honest I would be very surprised, if the first is anything to go by at least, if Arkham City doesn't blow everything else away.

DE3 is a good game, I'm enjoying it immensely, however it's not what I would call a great game, it's basically just a jumble of Splinter Cell (the first few at least) and Mass Effect, with combat/stealth that is more clunky than the former and duologue that pales in comparison to the latter.

One thing I would like to qualify about the above however is that I don't hold either of those against it, the two games I mentioned are pretty much the best examples of those things.

OH and I am actually starting to REALLY like the switch between first and third person, at first I felt it ruined immersion but I find it's actually quite fluid.

i caved in and bought it earlier great game imo so far but im only a few hours in, btw when your near the police station if you get the box from behind the tramps near the concrete pipes and throw it at a police car you get an awesome reaction :D

got to agree about the combat though it feels like it was designed to be played with a gamepad and it probably was....

Combat more clunky than Splinter Cell, Seriously?

Stealth/combat, as an FPS it's an FPS, not much to say really, it works, however in terms of stealth and being stealthy whilst taking out guards, it's just....dodgy. The cut scene take downs are immersion breaking and about as stealthy as a grenade, the AI is really rather dense when reacting to noise and sight and seem to have no peripheral vision, that and they can't see past 20ft.

Tbh, i'm not that bothered about the combat anyway as i always try to avoid it as much as possible in these types of games. I've managed to be non-lethal so far as well, but it never lasts:p

Tranq rifle seems pretty good. And i really like the switching views when going in to cover too, very well handled i thought. I don't mind the takedowns, but will generally only use it when there is one person on their own really.

So far(i'm not that far in really) i would say that it is probably the second best game i've played this year after Portal 2

Did any of you have issues setting 60hz in options? mine goes 59hz only although doesn't seem to cause any problems but only game i've had that issue.

Wasn't completely fail
7/10

Its not a bad successor but I'm a few hours into it now and nothing is really "stand out", level design is polished but a bit mundane with plenty of copy and paste sections, AI is unremarkable, combat/movement generally clumsy as PC games go, story, augmentations and gameplay mechanics in general seem a bit confused.

The original had so many memorable moments, even the music stood out and really set the scene whereas the music in this one just kinda drones insignificantly in the background somewhat setting an ambiance but you wouldn't miss it if it was gone.

Just finished first mission, Didnt manage to save Thorpe tried the justify/reason angle but nadda think due to social skill being zero.

Social skill has nothing to do with it. Going by the description it just makes it easier to 'detect' which will make the enemy give up.

Zeke is really obvious, everytime you give him 1 option he slowly lowers his gun.

Aye but its annoying when doing a non-leathal playthrough and you have no lead to pump him full of. Also when I do go and hide behind a pillar he just walks up to it and thus begins a benny hill style chase around the pillar.

I am playing on the hardest difficulty though so I die as soon as he looks at me.

Had zero guns as well (although on normal difficulty). Hit him with EMP grenades/mines (you ought to have picked some up), throw the explosive barrels/gas cannisters in the room at him. Pick up the guns/ammo scattered around and use them. Should be doable using just what you find in the room - assuming you can stay out of his fire.

On another note - loving this game! Not Deus Ex good - but a decent successor.

2:40am.. dammit!

The only thing I've found wrong with the game so far is the battery recharge only on the first cell. I don't like the mechanic. I see little point in buying more packs because I just use the takedown first charge over and over.

Although, with the dual takedown, cloak and sprint upgrades you do become an invisible flying ninja of doom to the masses of 2 enemies having chats.

Still, fantastic game. Thoroughly engrossing.

Despite some failings there are enough elements here that remind me of the original and that are also so rare in current fps that this has to be bought :)

It's worth the money just to have a proper inventory again.
