SP2 causes major problems.

editted the corredt statement.I found that out long ago and also proved it to a friend. SP2 is incompatible with many drivers for devices etc. it is incompatible with daemon tools amongst many others.avoid at all costs!

I just installed XP SP1a and it seems fine!

Either I broke my XP CD by messing with it using nLite, or SP2 causes major problems.

Glad you got it sorted now Jim.

Although I must say that I've got an XP SP2 rig running right now with 310Mhz HTT 1:1 so SP2 can't be all that bad. Once you get all your apps etc installed and tweaked, see what happens after you apply the SP2 patch over the current install, but back it up first :)

When using winflash to update bios a while ago for some reason i also checked the PnP & DMI Area. Everything still works, except when booting the computer seems to hang for about 30s just before the windows scroll comes up. Blank screen, no hard drive action, nothing. Then works fine. Quite annoying. So is it likely to be releated? I was going to try a format and reinstall to see if that cleared it up but would rather not have to. I've cleared the CMOS since then as well. Any ideas?

It might not be SP2, it might just be my tweak nLite install.

I have Ghost, so I'll back up my working SP1a system and install a plain slipstreamed SP2 and see what happens.

no sp2 has issues with various devices and apps.not worth the hassle.i tried it more than once on different setups.im not saying it affects overclocks/cpu stability etc but it is NOT compatible with every device driver so you might be lucky but many many have been unlucky.why bother?so Bill Gates can have more control over your pc?lol. :p

hmm sounds like what used to happen on the neo2.all you have to do after clearing cmos is load fail safe defaults.then reboot.then load optimised defaults thern reboot.now you can do your own thing in BIOS and all should be fine.

lol Im building a duct type thing now, so that air is drawn in from outside :D

It may be possible :D

Going to S&M today to see my maximum temps, 42C load with BOINC/gaming.

Damn! Those temps are going to drop even further

Are you cutting up your Stacker or just going to remove some of the drive covers and put the duct through the gap instead?

Cheers, I shall give it a go. Last time I cleared the CMOS I just loaded optimised then restarted, then set my own thing. Dont think i even noticed the fail safe option!

Hmm good idea, might try that!

However Im gonna reinstall windows due to something has messed up and I only get 22k 2001 :|

But, I have a spare 80Gb DM9 should I install that in the PC for pagefile/files and leave my raptor for System/games/programs?

What voltage are you putting throiugh your RAM Conc?

See my post in the SD thread ;)

I just put together all my new parts for my new pc, the spec is...

A64 3500
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D
1gig Corsair 3200XL (running at 2-2-2-5, 1T)
Radeon X850XT
Enermax Coolergiant 480W

Everything built ok, and it all powered up first time...
I boot to my XP (XP Pro + SP2) disc and carry out the installation, then when it loaded into windows, i started to get the xp blue screen of death!

Started coming up with the following errors...
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

it would also randomly restart until i turned off XPs "restart after errors" function.

Also came up these files in the bsod...
win32k.sys at address .... in ....
and after id installed the radeon drivers...
ati2dvag.dll came up with an error!
Then it also started telling me "current display driver cannot be used, it was written for a previous version of windows"

Ive tried it with all the harddrives apart from my raptor unplugged... im using an XP90C heatsink and the temps are never over 40C in the bios so im thinking its not temperature related, havent memtested my ram yet, but it was working fine with no errors in my old system.

Anyone got any ideas as to whats going wrong?

Remove a stick of ram, the one furthest from CPU.

Download the latest BIOS, 510-3 should be fine. Flash using instructions on first page, clear CMOS before doing so tho!! Plus lear CMOS after.

Replace stick of RAM, and you should be all good to go!

cheers:)

was planning on flashing the bios... but as my pc wouldnt get into windows for very long, if at all, i couldnt download it at home... had to wait till i got into work to get it

ill try that when i get back from work:)

Totally agree with Concorde.

Also, you could try installing XP SP1 as I had major problems with XP SP2 (although it may have been the additional tweaks I did with nLie). I'm going to try a straight slipstreamed XP SP2 disc to see if the problems return...
