Have to say I almost completely disagree. It's really quite shocking in my opinion that 20-25 years after Doom and Half-Life near enough perfected it that we still get games where the general feel and gunplay is utter tosh. Too many games now feel the need to just shoehorn in content like RPG elements, story, fancy graphics without taking the time and care to make sure that the game itself is fun to play, that the basics are nailed on and that the level design is on point.

I agree with Half life, but Half life has story and interesting levels to explore etc. I don't understand how you can think the old dooms are perfect gunplay.. You literally only move side to side and shoot. Theres only so much going through copy and pasted corridors, while side stepping and shooting, before it gets tiresome.

There is something about the fluidity and speed of doom plus the selection of weapons which still make it good today. I recently played through doom 1 and 2 and found them both still good
