*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

Pudge is defiantly not a hero for beginners, I can barely land a hook :D .

Heroes like Sven, Warlock, Lich, Venomancer and Tidehunter are rather easy to learn with and have simple mechanics.

As said above though, its something you have to stick with for a bit starting out you will get all the leavers and the abusing idiots that slowly fades out when you get a couple of games under your belt, it never quite goes but playing with a group of people certainly helps a lot.

Edit - How could i forget skeleton King, dude only has 1 active skill!

My cousin tried to play some Dota 2 with me when I was just getting into my first MOBA. His background is HoN and then more recently LoL.

I saw very similar complaints to what Koogle is complaining about:

Turning circle speed
Lower amount of true skill shots in Dota
Lower move speed
Games generally take longer (Although recent Dota 2 patch has made the games end a little faster imo)

I tried LoL very briefly but the cartoon graphics, amateur looking game interface and the fact you have to "buy heroes" just put me off.

For me Dota appears to be a bit more tactical although my biggest frustration with Dota is when there is literally nothing you can do when a hard carry has snowballed, even if you have a perfect early game advantage with something like an 8-0 start, if your hero selection is wrong or just plain unlucky (random draft, random selection etc) then it's just tough luck.

I've been meaning to get good at Invoker but such a hard hero to play well. Anyone been watching Fnatics recent games? H4nn1 plays an absolute beast Invoker. WOn't be long until Invoker is auto banned against Fnatic :)

A lot of players play really good Invokers. Such as Dendi, Iceiceice, Ferrari_430, etc

I don't think Invoker will become an auto ban really.

I'm no DOTA fan, I can't play the game or invest any time in it, but I've been watching the finals Na'Vi vs Alliance, and it's pretty crazy :) Always have fun watching those teams battle, especially when Na'Vi goes YOLO. Boom or bust!

Playing only makes watching more fun! You can pick plenty up from watching, but I find the more you learn about the game, the more enjoyable watching becomes.

Been having issues with the two guys I play with.

One of them is the same level and win/loss as me. The other has about fifty hours more, slightly better win/loss and obviously higher level.

When we play individually, or when we play as a duo (any combination of players), we do great... 80% of the time, it's a win, we have a really enjoyable game. But then, as soon as a third joins the team, we seem to get absolutely destroyed. And we can't wrap our heads around it. Looking back at the games we lost, all three of us were on the ball with last hits/denies, decent damage, good item builds, and we believe the co-ordination was good. There's usually one person we're matched with feeding, but there doesn't appear to be any huge weakness. Yet we are losing... Badly!

My reasoning is that we're being matched against teams of 3/4 that are better co-ordinated than us, but I honestly believe we already play well together... Proven by how efficiently we stomp when only playing as two!

Anyone else found this along their way? Any explanation, or anything we can do to continue winning games?

Outline its just luck mate.. you get matched with some proper fish and theres nothing you can do about it. These people could be really bad or really good... but if theyre really good, they could be drunk, half asleep.. anything.. just have to keep trying and hope you're lucky or always play with 5 people :)

We often play as a 4.. and it only takes one person to get you absolutely destroyed with some bad plays resulting in the chain deaths of the team

Not the best formatting, but:

Coaching
Anyone in a matchmaking party can specify that they'd like to coach the party instead of play. In lobbies, players can choose to coach a team instead of play or spectate. Coaches cannot be used in Team Matchmaking, or Tournament lobbies.
Increased maximum matchmaking party size to 6, to allow a coach to teach an entire team of students (but you can't Find Match if you have 6 players with no coach)
Coaches are able to use in-player perspective views and broadcaster tools like line drawing to teach their students. They are able to ping on the ground, the minimap, and anywhere in the HUD itself.
Coaches are considered to be on the same team as their students, so they cannot see anything in the game that their students can't see.
Coaches and students have private voice and text communication channels.
Coaches can hit their 'Hero Select' key to cycle through their students.
Coaches see spectator-style item purchase popups for their students.
In-perspective player view now shows the correct state of more HUD elements (Shop Quickbuy, KDA/Last Hits/Denies, Buyback). These improvements apply the the in-perspective view in live games and replays, as well as coaches.

Economy
This update may greatly disrupt market prices. In order to prevent items being purchased at pre-update prices for arbitrage, we are removing all item listings and returning them to their owners. While this removal process is taking place, new items will not be able to be listed on the Steam Community Market.
You can now list an item on the market from the armory (right click: sell on the market).
Armory item tooltips now contain the current lowest trading price for an item of the same class as the one highlighted. (Class is a somewhat flexible concept at the moment, so unusual courier prices will be less accurate than a specific wearable piece of equipment.)

Crafting
Crafting recipes now have a chance of dropping as a bonus item. These drops do not take up your normal drops, but are in addition to them.
Polymorph Recipes * These recipes take a variable number of any input of the same rarity and output a random other item of the same rarity. Example: 2 of Any Rare => 1 Random Different Rare
Augment Recipes * These recipes take a combination of inputs of the same rarity and output a random other item of the next best rarity. Example: 1 of Any Common & 1 Wavecrester => 1 Random Uncommon
Ancient Scrolls Case * A new type of Treasure Chest called the "Ancient Scroll Case" has been added. These cases drop multiple recipes when they are opened. * The Ancient Scroll Case has a chance to drop an Exceptional Recipe. These make items that were previously only available as Genuine quality promotional items. The recipe creates a non-genuine version of the item.
