Lost 7 out of my last 8 ranked games, ranks gone down by 200 ish points :(.

Luckily though probably only 2 of those have been dumb team mates, I've been having lots of really close good losses for a change. Also was about 10 wins above losses so expected a bunch of losses to come so I was down to 50/50 again.

I'm getting so fed up of playing in pugs now. Seriously nearly every game I play there is always one person who doesn't have a clue what's going on and just ruins the game for everyone else.

Seems like I'm stuck in an in-between place at the moment, not good enough to team up with the rest of you guys in games but getting increasing angry and frustrated with the people it puts me in matchmaking with.

I have a buddy I normally play with and we've learnt a lot about the game together, we usually control our lane well, but when the other 3 random members are just feeding or afking in base it's really disheartening.:(

I've been playing lots of single draft recently, it gets me away from the wait and then counter pick fun of all pick.

It's great but sometimes you do get people choosing a hero they clearly don't know how to use or have played very little.

Perfect example was a slark that couldn't land a pounce and fed mid, sad times.

I do like this mode though, you can be gimped though if your team gets given a load of supports and no carries, which has happened a handful of times.

Single Draft is the only mode I enjoy when solo queuing. All Pick has far too much waiting until the end then counter picking. It forces me to try new heroes and get out of my comfort zone which I like.

It gets silly how long people will wait on All pick so they can counter pick the opposing team.

When I do play all pick I just pick the hero I want to play, they can counter pick if they so wish.

I also choose single draft when solo queing, gets me out of the comfort zone although the odd times when my 3 choices are 3 heroes I have never played a little bit of guilt creeps in because that is unfair to the others.

I cannot stand All pick, the enemy team just counters your picks Zzzzzzz the most boring mode by far.

Sometimes random draft/Single draft can gimp you with the choices but more often than not it's a fun game.

Looking for some advice on heroes that micro. Is there anyway for me to have the control groups pre-configured in my autoconfig? What a pain in the bum it is doing this manually each game.

Do you guys have each individual unit on a control group also?

For example on NP which I had to use yesterday in SD mode (Was absolutely terrible too) would you have a control group for:

  • F1 - Hero only
  • F2 -All controlled units only
  • F3 - Hero and all controlled units
  • Each individual unit on multiple keys

At the moment I do the first 3.

I use 1 for my hero, 2 for things like bear, treants, forge spirits etc and 3 for both.

It saves your control groups in the cloud for each hero so you should only have to do it once for every hero.

I don't really use individual keys for each unit since I usually just box them if I want to separate. The only hero I'd use individual keys for would be Meepo I think.

Anyone available to do some single draft to learn/teach... say later tonight?

Started recently & got nearly 200 hours of play, which is mostly all co-op against bots.

Played 1 Multiplayer game where 3 of our heroes disconnected and we ended up winning 2vs4... needless to say the other team were pants.

So much to learn!

You each get given 3 random heroes to select from.

I like single draft as a new player.

Gives me the opportunity to try new characters but occasionally I get someone I really enjoy.

Thanks guys, this does sound good :)

I guess my only worry would be if I end up with a hero that I'm just not skilled enough to play at this early stage... (For instance the heroes being described above that have extra units they can control)

You would be very unlucky to only get given 3 micro intensive units.

If you're low level then everyone is in the same boat an will likely end up with a hero they are not too familiar with.

Best advice I can give you would to perhaps play the game mode:

"least played" Since you haven't actually played online with any hero you should have the whole pool to select from. Others will be trying heroes they are not familiar with, so hopefully people will be more forgiving.

Even then I would probably stick on a video that purge has made for the hero you choose, not because purge is an amazing gamer but his youtube videos often goes through the heroes abilities/skills and explains them properly so you understand what they actually do.

^^ This has worked well for me so far (watch a Purge video for a hero that looks interesting to get an idea of their skills, then give them a go)

Least played sounds interesting too :)

I'm really hoping they'll address this in one of the patches. Like many other people I'm totally for the suggestion that anybody who hasn't picked at the end of the allocated time in AP should be given a random hero anyway. Like in Random Draft. And just to take it a step further, Valve should remove the bonus gold you receive when randoming if you don't random within the allotted time.

If you want to counter pick people play Captains Mode, or hell even Captains Draft. AP should just be about getting quick picks and getting a game as fast as possible... having to wait because somebody wants to be a try hard, in my opinion, isn't what the nature of AP is about.

I've stopped playing AP when ranked for just those reasons, between people waiting till after creep spawns to "counter pick" (and usually failing) or the instalock legion/pudge/slark mid or feed crowd it's just horrible.

CM or CD all the way.

All pick for some fun on normal games is fine though, counter pick away because i don't care.
