Like I said nothing is set in stone yet, its just worrying and frustrating when you know its not because of anything you have done, its just a business decision based on others performance (mainly sales people .... Thanks sales guys.)
In short they are merging the business sector I currently work for back to the original sector I got the promotion from in order to cost save (as the sales lot didn't hit their targets and the company objective has now shifted as a result.)
There might be scope for me to slot back into my previous role/team but its all a bit rocky at the moment.
I guess we will find out tomorrow. Know sure as hell I wont sleep tonight.

Please be kind to me when I say this as I know it's a nooby thing to say. But I want to start playing this game, and I'm coming from League of Legends.
Could someone describe the roles to me (as there are 2 supports in Dota?) and maybe give an example of a hero or so for each role?

I'll probably not cover everything but;
Carry - Viper/Sniper/Drow
Support - Lion/Dazzle/Omni
Pusher - Death Prophet/Natures/Lycan
Jungler - Doom/Lifestealer/Ursa
Tank - Axe/Bristle/Centuar
Nuker - Tinker/QoP
Disabled - Bane/Shaker
Initiator - Brew/FV
You'll find most heroes cover multiple roles though and very few (if any) are just one role.

There isn't roles such as initiator, tank, nuker, etc. Its just things certain heroes can do.
The roles are
1. Carry (Faceless Void, Naga Siren, Phantom Assassin)
2. Mid (Puck, Death Prophet, Tinker)
3. Offlane (Tidehunter, Clockwerk, Bounty Hunter)
4. Support (Earthshaker, Bane, Shadow Shaman)
5. Hard Support ( Crystal Maiden, Lion, Vengeful Spirit)
Something you have to keep in mid which is different from LoL is that a lot of heroes can play multiple roles in dota.
Position 4 isn't always a support as well you'll sometimes have a jungler which can either be a support jungler or a more aggressive carry jungler depending on the hero.
Every support can pretty much play position 4 and 5. The difference is that the 5th positon usually buys the majority of the wards, courier, smokes, dust, etc and lets the position 4 try and buy some items.
Aggressive junglers include heroes like Ursa, Lycan, Nature's Prophet.
The more support junglers are heroes like Enigma, Enchantress, Chen

naw, newts had it right. heroes perform certain roles, you're just talking about positions in a team and the farming priority you give to the people in "roles" 1-5
the two are pretty interchangeable but to say there's no such thing as heroes having a role, as far as what the functions they perform/provide, is a bit wrong

They perform certain roles but you don't say WE NEED A TANK and pick bristle as a support because you need a tanky hero.

no, you pick wraith king instead who's a tank and fulfils the support role as well, but wutevs that's drafting yo, pick whatever... DK did and they won the International
but newts wasn't wrong, the other dude is coming from LoL and i doubt he's unfamiliar with any of the terms newts was using... newts just gave him the answer he was looking for and then a bit more, to be helpful
