Well he's not a viable support. Nice to see you discussing it without resorting to personal insults though 
I mean I've seen teams try some weird things in pro games. EG played support Zeus yesterday, DK were always trying weird things in the 4th slot....I still can't remember anyone trying Necro support. He offers nothing over any other supports and there are a lot of supports that offer more than him. I'd say there are at least 50 other heroes that offer more than him in a support role.
It's clique not click. But sure, of course it's people ganging up on you, not just you saying a silly thing.

Badly, as has been said there are far better heroes if you want a healing support.
You can do some minor harassment while massively pushing the lane out, yeah.
Undying has a heal and a mass slow, would you call him a support? What about centaur? Good stun and his ulti is great for helping out team-mates in trouble, is he a support?

Living Armor is global, why on earth would I get an item that encourages me to leave the fountain?! Go lane, max living armor, retire to fountain and heal until you win.

Ya taking the support thing too seriously lol
14 heroes completed in 18 games, the latest one being Medusa... which was of course a rapier rush. My team had already won it by the time I got rapier up though, picked it up at 23 minutes but we had already destroyed two lanes of rax.

How does it work if someone picks your hero before you? Does that mean you fail the challenge and have to start all over?
I think you can just play the heroes at any time, you don't have to play them in the order you're given. If you go off and play another hero it doesnt punish you for it.
As far as i understand it anyway....my next one is techies, so, fat chance of me bothering with it for quite some time

Yeah it only counts as you "trying" if you play the hero and lose. Nothing gets reset if you lose, it just counts how many attempts each hero takes. If someone picks your hero you just pick something else and do it next time.
