*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

Every time I spectate Musty's matches I swear you guys have just forced him into a support role no matter what character he has. He appears to be playing support bristleback at the moment :D

It was single draft, no forcing involved in it. (If he chose to play it a certain way that's his decision, but no one makes him play it that way :))

EDIT: Power treads, AC, halbred, how was he a support?

The worst part of all this arguing was that the original question was quite interesting for me :(

Still don't know what a "soft" or "hard" carry are... Still trying to figure out why the "safe" lane is the long one...

soft or hard carry probably refers to whether the hero can do well late game or not but that all depends on the other team.

Its called the safe lane because its connected to your jungle and the creeps meet closer to your half of the map.

In the offlane the second you go past the river its very dangerous.

You had a magic wand and a quelling blade by 9 mins, that's how you were playing support :p

You need to be stronger, with the lineup you had there is no way you shouldn't have been farming. Could easily have had the naga or kunkka in a support role.

Soft or hard carry...a soft carry is generally something else as well, control, initiation etc. So someone like Mirana would be a soft carry. A hard carry generally takes longer to come online and requires a lot of farm to do so, for example Anti Mage.

The safe lane is that lane because you have control over where the creep line is (through pulling from the jungle) and also you have control over the access to the area with easy warding of the jungle entrance points.

It was all going so well, wondered how long it'd before people started arguing.

Main rule of this forum: you are not allowed to disagree with or insult someone unless your MMR is equal or greater than theirs :)

I suggest you do 1v1 SF mid, settle it like nerds

I thought that a magic wand was a pretty viable option on all heroes not just support?

Again, first here to admit I don't know much about the game so please enlighten me as to if that's not the case?

If you are in a lane and not the one farming, you are a support. Wand and quelling blade at 9 minutes = no farm = either playing as support or becoming a very weak core.

If you're playing a core you should be somewhere where you are getting farm.

It's a solid item for most characters, depends who you're laning against as to how early you get it (for example, against a batrider it's a great item immediately) It wasn't the items you had, it was the fact you essentially had no items, not even boots that far into the game. Unless your opponents are utter potatoes that is never a good situation to be in as a bristleback.

If you want to try a different role and you're 5 stacking just ask someone else if they can play a support/not farming role for a game. If they're reasonable I'm sure they won't mind.

That game the bristle was meant to be solo off, he picked it to be solo off. I'd gone mid as kunkka (reluctantly) then luna was a late last pick who should have actually gone mid in place of me. (Note that this was single draft so we didn't exactly have the world of options!)

I could have support kunkkad and tri-laned if we had decided to move the lanes around after the luna came out, which i did enquire about, but others were happy as they were.

So there you go, that's why bristle had no farm. It was the rest of the teams fault for not moving the lanes around and making space for him, not mustys. Why people feel the need to criticise an unranked single draft game between friends though is beyond me...

I don't know why you have it in your head that its the others making me play that way, its just how I play.

I am the first to admit that I am not an amazing carry/core but its something I am working on. Farming and last hitting is still something that I suck at, but I am trying to improve that (I guess that's what you get for playing support a lot when starting to learn the game ..)

I didn't start well no, but I scaled "ok" towards the end.

Thanks for the constructive criticism though. God knows I clearly need it.

If you guys want to improve then you really need to stop playing single draft, it's resulting in absolutely trash lane setups which will do nothing but hinder your progress. Luna and Bristleback in the same lane is awful.

I see where you are coming from, and I agree to a point, but to me (at least) its a handy tool to learn new heroes and what doesn't and doesn't work in terms of lane set ups and tactics.

Like others in this thread what you seem to miss is the fact that (regardless of wins or losses) we have a blast. No really, EVERY single game is a good laugh.

That might be hard for the typical "high horse better than everyone else" dota player to understand, but we really do.

Bristle and Luna going in the same lane together has absolutely nothing to do with playing single draft, we're learning new characters this way, by learning new characters we know what to expect when we come up against them, we learn what their skills do if we haven't played them before. That seems like really silly advice to not play single draft...

It was a pretty simple fix...luna goes mid and me or naga transition to support. Pretty easy really, some of us knew that some of us didn't BUT you know what's important? The ones that didn't know that do now. They've learnt, through playing and making mistakes.

Funnily enough how did you learn the game? Did it just come to you in a vision? Nope, you learnt by playing and making your own mistakes then learning from them. I don't know you, but that's something universal for us all.
