*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

There really is no need to be so defensive

Then why do you feel the need to so heavily question our games?

We are happy playing in our groups and you are clearly happy playing in yours?

I am sure (if I had nothing better to do, or no one to play dota with) I could watch some of your games and give you some great advice (HA).

If only I was one of those high horse (and actually good) dota players. :D

Funnily enough how did you learn the game? Did it just come to you in a vision? Nope, you learnt by playing and making your own mistakes then learning from them. I don't know you, but that's something universal for us all.

I learned through a combination of reading, watching and playing. I found out what good lane combinations are (there are dozens, you can learn all the heroes this way) and tried them out.

If you just pick random heroes and throw them together in a random lane setup then your progress is going to be ridiculously slow. If you're ok with that then fine, but stop getting all ****y when I try to help.

This is why this thread is so flipping hostile though, everyone seems very happy to set up an 'us and them' mentality. Share an opinion and someone disagrees? Clearly they're ganging up and hating on you. Then people immediately start throwing out personal insults. I'm not on my high horse in the slightest, I'm far from a good player and appreciate all the advice I get on here from a number of people. I don't give a **** what your mmr is. I play with people of all skill levels, as long as people make an effort I'm happy to play with anyone.

I wasn't heavily questioning your games, I was merely surprised to see you doing that again after saying it wasn't much fun in the past (that inhouse when you played a non farming drow for example)

Well said, the hostility in this thread today is the reason i considered Elixers reply to musty regarding trash lane setups to be more of an insult than advice. In the context of the replies before it, it came off as such, even if it wasn't intended (Text contains no emotion after all). My point, in a less hostile way though, was that we knew what we did wrong, but we never asked for any advice as it's something we'd already corrected in our own minds....the topic was brought up before in a less constructive manner, hence the less than polite response.

End of the day us lot at our, how was it so gently put two pages ago....ah yes "dribbler" mmr (and it's comments like that which fuel these arguments) play for the enjoyment of playing, most of us couldn't give two ****s what anyones MMR is so long as you're nice and fun to play with.

It doesn't help that one or two people here are the "high horse" type, and will permanently believe their status to be of higher authority due to a digit in a game. The implication of which means they consider themselves to never be wrong about anything so long as their number is higher than that of the person disagreeing with them....often though, all it requires is to put things in a more delicate manner and be less of a russian about it, and disagreements become debates rather than arguments. (I should clarify this part relates to arguments from a page or two back, opposed to this one.)

You were wondering why Bristleback was being considered a support after laning it as a support, it wasn't particularly apparent that you were aware of your poor lane setups.

My advice about not playing single draft is genuine, you can find out good lane combinations beforehand and it makes you far more appreciative of the role each member in the lane has to play if you are able to play an effective duo. As for "it helps us try out new heroes" I really don't understand the logic, it's the most restrictive draft of the lot. Just go all pick and work your way through them. I learned with a friend and we just laned together, for the first few games he carried I supported, then we switched. It takes long enough to learn how all the heroes can combo together without making it hard for yourself by choosing (or risking it with single draft) heroes that have absolutely no synergy.

Its called advice. They are trying to help. A few pages ago I noticed you were complaining about your MMR, and your profile is private so obviously you have some insecurities there. You come off like you want advice and to improve then when people give you it suddenly we are the "high horse" type who only care about our MMR.

This thread is ****ing awful though, used to be fine now its just constant whining. Never any actual discussion and as soon as someone tries to get it back on topic they are "dota obsessed self centred ****".

I go back to the enjoyment part there, we play it because we enjoy it. We're not looking to win the next international. The grand scheme of things is that it doesn't matter what your level is, you'll always win and you'll always lose, and you'll always be pitted up against a similar skill level and you're never going to win 100% of your games. We want to improve, but not at the expense of the fun, we enjoy single draft, like i say it makes up 10% of our games, it forces us into something new for a bit of fun without the fuss of having a large pool to choose from, and i can happily state i've learnt a lot from SD, AR and RD by playing characters that in all pick i'd have otherwise probably avoided for quite some time.

Now on the flipside if i was playing ranked, lets for example say that single draft was an option in ranked, i'd never play it, because i'd agree with everything you're saying.

I don't feel that every single game of dota has to be used for the intention of improving, if that's your focus 24/7 then you start to miss out on the fun, and I'm too old for that ****. :p

Fair enough, but lets be honest, its a competitive game. You either win or you lose. And even though all I want to do is improve I still find it fun, just incredibly more fun when winning or close games.

My friend Maverick who some of you played with earlier says you are a bunch of morons who wouldn't kill the ancient until you had 4 blink daggers each. No idea who the culprits were but pls take Dota seriously, MMR is a measure of life success and not something to be toyed with.

I dunno though, I was improving by trying out new builds. Do you have any idea how legit that was? I moved across the map so fast.
