*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

Yeah sorry Newts, I have absolutely no idea how you enjoyed that game. You just sat in base and walked a bear around the map, you couldn't even attack or use skills. It was like a walking simulator :p

I thought you would disregard all the team fights I took part in but I should have seen that with the mentality of sone in here. That aside, how is using the bear at a distance to clear waves to keep base pressure off and kill people any different to say, hitting Zeus ult from the other side of the map and killing people? Disregard the pro/cons of how best to play him if you can actively contribute toward a win why should IT be punished?

Well if a Zeus only contributed to the game by sitting in base and ulting occasionally then yeah I'd report him! Anyone that actually manages to get an automatic abandon for getting no experience whatsoever in 5 minutes can have no arguments really.

The bear does massive amounts of right click dmg. Not to mention Druid can also gain health, dmg and armor with his ult. The bear also does 40% more dmg to buildings. So the rat is real. But all this requires them to be within range. You are basically using less than 50% of his full potential. Not to mention it took 30 mins to get radiance. You could have had midas and some more dmg items on the bear by that time. It could have been a different game and more in your favour. You had 2 heroes at your control and one of them didn't come out to play very often.

I'm not trying to justify why you should be punished for it. Like I said you had fun and played how you wanted but you asked what you could change to make it a win. It's the way the abandon system works and it shouldn't be changed because it forces play. A hero sitting in base is not playing.

Yeah that's the point as always Murray, keep up them high standards.

@ Tobes and Shami I agree I wasn't using him the best, nowhere near, but with the circumstances (them ahead in levels, controlling map, using creep waves to split us and ganking like mad) I utilised him to get the win. It's a valid ability to use so why should you be punished for it? Perhaps using bear solo should grant limited exp to keep you from an abandon? I rather enjoy using LD in fights (as I caught them in base) but you need to play to the circumstance.

Main thing I enjoyed a tense and close win, just a little peeved to be penalised after getting a lot of kudos from my team too :p

How is not getting XP for your hero going to help when behind? Radiance drops off massively as a game goes on and that is literally all you were bringing. So I'm not sure how your strategy of getting increasingly under-levelled was a good one?

You're punished for not contributing with your hero for a very long time (I don't think you realise how hard it is to not get any XP for 5 mins, even you just sitting in base managed a good 13 mins just by luck. I'm not sure why you're suggesting that they should help this style of play  Would you be happy if an NP just sat in base and sent treants out?

Frankly if your team were giving you kudos then they must be absolutely brain dead, they won despite what you were bringing. I know you hate it when people disagree with you on here but it's the truth.

And equally you find it impossible to contemplate a way of playing dota that isn't by the numbers or spoonfed to you by a pro.

I have no problem admitting I'm wrong, im wrong plenty and make plenty of mistakes and enjoy learning other way of doing things. But obviously 5 people in a team are wrong as are the opposition who said kudos, all are wrong but you are right as usual ;)

Pretty sure your team started with items like wand and bracer them saying you played well doesn't exactly mean much.

There is no way you can be defensive about that game, you were using like 20% of the hero and just afking. People any higher would be reporting/flaming you.

Not at all. Although if 'leaving the base and actually playing the game' counts as by the numbers....then yes I do that every game.

As Murray has said, the Sand King started the game with a bracer and the Sven with a complete Magic Wand. No offence but when these kind of people are complimenting you then you should be asking questions!

You can't admit when you're wrong in the slightest. You just start throwing out insults like you did above :)

dat item build

Mine?
What was wrong with it?

I often buy a magic wand, why is that bad?

(I've played around 200 games, so consider myself pretty new, so these are serious questions)

As a starting item? It's never good. In rare situations you might go for a bare stick first (if you know you will be up against a bat or bristleback for example) To be honest it's rarely worth upgrading the stick to a wand.

I find it can often keep me alive. A stick would probably do the same, but the +3 to everything didn't seem that bad. Obviously depends how many attack skills they have, I've realised it's not great against the likes of Sniper.
What would I be better off spending the gold on? I used to get boots, but they didn't help survivability really. So I get boots after wand now.

Its just a really strange item build. Thats all.

Oh right, I believe they were all suggested items. Boots, lifesteal, evasion and a damage item, seemed like a reasonable idea. MKB was specifically because of PA.

Boots are good on certain heroes (sometimes an offlaner or an aggressive melee support like ogre or treant) The problem with wand as a starting item is the 150 gold recipe that offers absolutely nothing except a decrease in inventory slots (not usually a problem at the start of the game) That is like a quarter of your gold on a recipe. Much better spent on a consumable or other stat item.

Is anyone else just fed up of PA? Every damn game. They should remove the hero from Dota for a few weeks when this ridiculous event ends to make up for it!

Game today, guy picks PA gets the contract then re-picks his hero to Bristleback. Gets the kill on the target "as Bristle" it somehow still counts O_o
