*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

I have been playing well other this week with my mate only to play 3 games last night and get spanked in all 3 games! In one game the opposite team had a DC at the start and they still won!!
I've been playing Outworld Destroyer a lot but may need to change it up.

Do you guys tend to stick with the same hero or change it up every now and then?

Generally try not to repeat heros for atleast 10/15 games in most cases. If im on my own i just random or wait until everyone else has picked and pick a hero to fill the gap.

You need to have a grasp of, or at least know the abilities of all the heroes so you know what to expect from them.

I wouldn't advise randoming until you have some idea, as too often someone will suck on a team and it turns out it's their first time using that hero, it's annoying. Practice your heroes against bots.

Personally I tend to play each hero for a while before getting bored and moving onto the next, I mostly play support as when I first started online everyone would pick carries so I got used to playing support and enjoy the role more.

I would say i have a generally good understanding of most heroes, i tend to play the ranged nuker but i may give the strength characters a go for a while.

I did random when i first started playing but there is nothing worse than getting one picked for you that you hate but i understand the concept of trying them to understand there mechanics.

Does the matchmaking force you within a certain range of 50/50 win loss ratio?

Whenever i get to far away from it i seem to get either really easy matches or ridiculous matches, after 8 losses in a row i had 4 of the easiest matches i've ever played. One of those losses i was solo and got put against a five man premade didn't stand a chance was pointless.

Apparently it doesn't but i'm skeptical.

when I am searching the a game, soon as the search range goes higher than the 50% mark, I quit search and start again. Been getting better quality games since doing that..

I disagree a little there, I think everyone should do plenty of randoming!

Ill try that, see if it makes a difference

The system doesn't bother with 50:50, I'm fortunate to play with an extremely high level player (who carries me a lot) and his W/L is massively under 50:50, when dotabuff was giving ratings his was top 200 and his winrate is something like 44%.

5 Mans gain an ELO penalty (as in, they are matched against higher opponents) as they are assumed to have teamwork. There's also the map penalty (the map isn't 50:50 winrate for radiant/dire) to help it balance.

I play ~10 heroes extremely well, another 20 OK, another 20 if pushed and the rest badly but have played nearly all of them. I would suggest doing bot tests to get a grip on heroes, you can practice animation cancelling, last hitting etc... with cheats making it much easier.

This might be a stupid question, but has this launched? It seems to be available for me to install all of a sudden but the store page still says it's not out.

Either way, downloading now ;)

the client that everyone can download is the spectator client and you wont be able to actually play. Loads of people have keys anyway to actually give away and there are even a few bots which automatically distribute them so just ask away if you need a key :)

So each hero has a primary attribute this is either Strength, Agility or Intelligence. As they level up these increase automatically with normally more points going to their primary attribute, however you can choose to assign points to attributes when you level which increases all stats.

As for the stats they each give certain bonus's for example for each point of strength your character gains 19 extra hp.

For agility each point gives 1 attack speed and 0.14 armor.

For Intelligence its maximum mana increased by 14 and regen rate by 0.04.

Increasing the primary attribute also increases the hero's base damage. So generally you will find strength heroes building strength items to increase their damage and tank although it really is situational.

As for items for each hero the default builds are good enough to get you started its probably best to do a few bot matches and get the feel of the game first however. I think there is even a tutorial now but i have no idea how good that is at conveying a lot of the information.

Good Luck!
