*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

I keep having the most terrible games as Alchemist. Occasionally I can do amazingly if I can manage to get my last hitting right, but otherwise I just end up so terribly.
If you're getting done in lane you can stack the jungle then just acid them (acid is composite damage which is nice) and bulk kill stuff. The timer is 20s between kills and you really need to keep it up during laning, don't mega kill everything then need to wait for the lane to catch up else you'll lose difference * creeps in gold which is well over 100g a wave :( All you really need in lane is a ring of health (don't build bf on him though, please to god don't do it) and once you're 6 you'll be laughing.

Best bet is to lane with a stunner/disabler (ranged) and then you can do ranged stun into your stun into death. Just remember to release your stun onto them at the end of your friends, doubling up the stun will just let them get away. Shaman, Veng, lina, shadow demon - this sorta thing. If you end up laning with someone who has no CC you're going to have a bad time unless they let you just sit back and farm. The pros get a quick shadow blade then stuncharge>SB>stun>kill which is fairly easy to replicate from around level 8 onwards.

Yeah all the LoL people going to rushing in oh dear :(

Doubt that, too much money and time invested in their skins and unlocks, it'll slowly grow. Can stay the same size for all I care, already massive, most interesting esport going atm (bar SC2 arguably) and will be backed to the hilt by Valve

I've heard things and seen a few videos on youtube about abaddon being released, but my client doesn't have it yet. are they staggering the update because of release or something?

They usually (9/10) release a test client on a Wednesday night/Thu morning, patch doesn't go live on proper client until Thu night/Fri morning. Always on the test client for at least a day

It'd help keep the people who have attachment to their progress and can't just play games for fun these days, wouldn't bother me, I'd like more stats present to view though :)

Dotabuff pretty much did this before Valve pulled the public API on by default card. If you want to see what broad category you are search for your previous games and then select the skill band - whichever one you're in on single queue is the broad range you sit in. It's a really wide range but you can get the gist of where you sit. If this is too much effort i present the bracket guide by Myshra:

  • Do your games feature more tri-lanes than any other laning setup? You're in the top bracket
  • Do you often see double duals or the odd jung & and decent solo like WR/DS? You're in the middle
  • Do you often see 3 people mid and games featuring 5 carries (2 of which must be drow and sniper)? You're in low.

Abaddon is on test (and awesome), I actually can't wait for his release.

Or you can go to the 'watch' tab in dota, sort by skill and search your name in each one and your most recent replays will show what bracket you are actually in :p

Haven't played Dota 2 before but the introductory lessons in the latest update have made me want to give it a try.

I like the idea of having initial practice sessions with a limited pool of heroes as it the large number in that always daunted me in LoL

this is a shamless request for razor riki and tiny badges off anyone who isnt bothered with them.

i need them 3 to get the set, anyone want to give them away please?

I had a terrible game with Life stealer today. I've never really played him. Maybe once before ages ago.

Today I decided to jungle with him up to about lvl 9 then attempted to get involved in a gank or two but I got shut down sso fast. Massively annoying. I was up against characters I didn't expect to be a problem but a Phantom assassin with skull basher and a magnus had me pinned. Then a skywrath and storm sspirit kicked my ass.

Embarrassing score of about 2/8/9

Is that how the system works? Doubt it, for me games are essentially random as to how good my teammates are, the only time it's consistent is when i have too many losses compared to wins, in which case i am teamed up with good players often or when I have too many wins in which case I am team upped with clearly newbies.

Edit: just got to 18 more wins than losses and it's been constant team up with new players, or has anybody managed to keep high win to loss ratio which blows my theory out of the water?

I get the same. I got to +25 wins at one point, then got 10 or so loses ina row. Then 10 wins. It's stupid.

It's a hidden ELO system if that's what you're asking. They only provide the 3 brackets in the recently played system as purdy says but it will likely be on a similar system to LoL. You drift less the longer you play for - I've played ~600 games now and it's pretty much been the same skill level for around 1/2 a year.

If you want to see proof of this make a smurf. By game 3 you'll be playing against other high level smurfs if you wreck in games 1 and 2.
