**Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread**

On my second run-through now - trying to complete the game on "insane" difficulty. The come get some achievement is the only one I'm missing :)

A lot of the game seems no more difficult than on hard, but some of the events are really tough... the mothership battle is pretty difficult, since it's hard to do enough damage to the mothership before it turns its lasers on you - you have to let some fighters through in order to save enough ammo for the mothership.

The other turret scene a little later, with the fighters coming at you - that was near-impossible! I think I must have had twenty tries at that beast! I don't think I did anything 'better' on the time I succeeded, just seemed to be luck that enough of my distance shots got through.

Turret fights + insane difficulty = nooooo! :p

I was around 5 retries on the second turret so you just made me feel better :D Honestly hard as hell to try and get that done.

As for the Mothership I managed to get through that second time round, just tried to concentrate on the middle ships i.e the ones that will attack and then back onto the Mothership, found tapping away to be the main way to counter the heat problem.

Early one the Pigs that literally jump at you and take you out with one swipe are bloody annoying, after several ego boosts however that isn't as much of an issue :D

Really discovered how useful the shrink ray is when trying to get through on the insane difficulty that's for sure. Enjoying the 2nd play through and certainly a good challenge, not looking forward to the Octobrain boss however :( lol

Also THAT gamespot review is just an utter farce...there is absolutely no way the game is a 3.5, I don't know how bad it is on consoles or what but the PC version is a solid 7 imo and seems to be the opinion shared by a lot of players.

Oh yeah just noticed the Dukes Pad unlockable thing for playing online, might have to give online a go after finishing this campaign again :)

The octobrain is going to be tough! But I think saving a holoduke and some beer should be enough to get through. I've not had too much trouble with the regular enemies so far, but the turret scene have been a real pain...

Agreed on the score as well. It has some clumsy gameplay mechanics but it's still very enjoyable. IMO it's more like a 7/10, and maybe 8/10 if you're old enough get the Duke3D nostalgia kick :p

Completed this during the weekend and have to say I did start to enjoy it after a while. Not sure i'd be able to play through it again. I did it on normal difficulty and got through it fairly easy.
I still feel a little bit let down at the way it turned out but I did see it through till the end

I have heard of some single player missions coming out sometime soon, so I would'nt mind a pop at that.

Just downloading The Witcher 2 so beware there will be a lot of screenshots :D

He probably thought it was the high res thread :p

See the funny thing is I never used Holoduke the first time through for some reason...don't ask me why lol!

Certainly will need that during Octobrain and as you say...get tanked up on the beers ;) I have to say Insane Difficulty certainly makes some of the shooter sections more troublesome which is a good thing. Just past the top of the Dam, managed to get through the Overlord in one go so was happy with that...however he bugged out for the first stage and wouldn't move forward until after I stabbed him in the eye the first time...so despatching him during the "second" round of that fight made it rather simple :p

Completed the game tonight, final boss was interesting, had a very old school way of taking him down, as did most of the others.

All in all i enjoyed it a lot, its a nice change of pace from games like call of duty where its just shoot shoot shoot, cutscene shoot shoot and thats your lot. The puzzles add a nice element to the game, theyre not that difficult but it does change the pace of the game where you have to think about what youre doing.

Its a solid game, worthy of at least a 7/10, screw what the butthurt angst patrol "pro" reviewers say, im sure they'll receive their payoffs later in the year to blow wads over MW3 regardless of how little its changed from MW2.

I agree!

I'm a GFX whore and DNF looks like crap, I like decent gameplay as well and DNF plays like crap with its regen health, two gun limit and linear map design. I give it 4/10.

I'm inside The Hive now and am thoroughly enjoying it. I mentioned before how i attributed the gameplay to old skool shooters and the pacing beeing remeniscent of them and the same olds true at the moment.

The bosses are big and there are classic ways to kill them. The 3 titty boss is where I am at the moment.

I have a GTX460 and on a 24" screen it looks superb. In The Hive I was constantly oohing and ahhing at the lighting and atmospheric effects.

And I'm hard to please when it comes to visuals.

Anyone who says otherwise is a fool!
