*** Official Fallout 4 - No Spoilers Allowed ***

I've never played a Fallout game but it's hard not to get swept up in the hype around Fallout 4. Not sure if it's my type of game though, I like RPGs but usually when they're set in worlds like Skyrim or The Witcher.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Afraid not - I've loved Fallout since the first - but what makes games like Skyrim work is exactly what makes Fallout work too. If you like wandering around and exploring, you'll be right at home. You'll be sneaking through abandoned vaults, finding loot, levelling up, going on epic expeditions across the wastes, all the while being hassled by messed up mutant creatures and bandits :) It might be a little more oppressive in atmosphere compared to what you're used to, but it still absolutely feels like fantasy to me and is and has more unique charm to it than any other game of this type that I can think of. Give it a go for sure!

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are the only games in recent years (15?), that I have completed multiple times on multiple formats.
Oblivion and Skyrim, I also played to death, but not as much as the Fallout games.
Going to pick up on Xbox, as I'm getting too old to spend hours at a computer desk and need the comfort of a sofa these days.

As someone who's never played Fallout, what are these abandoned vaults you speak of ? Is it a vault as in a bank vault or something else ?

The Vaults are like nuclear bunkers on steroids. Your character grew up in Vault 101 in FO3. The char in FO4 will be coming from Vault 111

I am seriously well aboard this hype train. Simply cannot wait for it to drop. I think the last time I was so hyped for a game was maybe Skyrim.

I don't think I'll be that interested in a future release until Final Fantasy VII, this will probably keep me hooked until then! :D

Skyrim was the last game I pre-ordered.
Usually wait a while for patches etc.

A a vault is a fallout shelter. Where people/communities live and work to avoid living outside with the radiation and the mutants etc

As the name suggests people hid from fallout, they built and hid/lived in vaults.

Sounds good, thanks.

And finding one is one of my fave things in gaming. You know there's loot down there, locked away. But what went wrong? Where is everyone? Is what killed them still down there?! Did they kill each other? Weapons, ammo and armour check - open the door and take a deep breath :)

Yup, it's like that one vault in Fallout 3 where;

There are loads of clones of the same guy, creepy and hilarious at the same time!

So will there be vaults dotted around the map? I can't remember finding other vaults in fallout 3 or new vegas apart from the vault at the beginning of fl3. Though it was such a while ago I can't remember.

You had to go to Vault 87 in FO3 to find the geck. Scribe Rothschild at the Brotherhood of Steel showed a map of about 6 other Vaults in the DC wasteland.
