**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

In regards to settlements, I am still perplexed as to how:

The various attacks on them work. I seem to get them every two hours or so. On a few occasions they have hit, in particular the southern settlements, they have been pretty brutal. First and only death to date was down there fast travelling without putting power armor on, into a group of 8 or so High Tier super mutants (level 65 at the time) while other sites get 1-2 raiders?

Would love to know what triggers battles as in 100 or so hours, not had an attack to date on sanctuary, while others seem to get hit a lot it sounds like.

I have read elsewhere that attacks are more likely if:
your population, food and water are higher than your defense rating in a particular settlement.

There is also an in-game/loading screen tip (hence not spoilered) that states that enemies are 'generally tougher the further south you travel'
which could be the reason for your southern crew getting hit hard?

I'm up to around 16 hours now,

BOS & Minutemen spoilers
How many of the damned Minutemen and Brotherhood quests are there?!

I got as far as Diamond city on the main quest then ditched it for side quests, seems like there's just an infinite number of settlement quests and tech items to find! I'm getting sick of clearing places of ghouls too, they're just getting annoying now!

Well...

Some of the quests are repeatable. AFAIK:

-Minutemen quest where you have to help settlements clear out a place.
-Brotherhood quest where you have to escort someone
-Brotherhood quest about collecting tech
-Brotherhood quest where you take along some random recruit to clear out an area

That's all I know of so far. You can replay them as much as you want for the reward, but there is no end to them.

The fetch tech and clear location quests in the police station? Just keep going, you're almost done with them ;)

Can anyone tell me if a 980Ti will be able to sustain 60-70FPS constantly (the odd dip into the 50s is acceptable) at 1080p? Currently, my two 670s are fluctuating from 72 ("OC'd" refresh rate) all the way down to the 30s several times per minute, simply based on where I look. The dynamic shadow distance hasn't helped that much :/

VRAM (or lack of) is my main issue I think.

Any my basic foray into building thus far:

I've got a non-ti 980 and that seems to manage it just fine

Yep indeed read the same. So partly expected the stronger enemies, was just shocked at the total overkill, Spawned right next to 2 shooting missiles, 2 with miniguns and few more with lasers

Yep that's whats slightly perplexing me, the settlement in question is quiet small, only 3 people, so the food and water is about 15 points combined, while defense is in excess of 100 yet still this one settlement seems to get hit over and over. Not that I am complaining any longer as I just head there in power armor and get loads of EXP.

Everything on max except godrays on med on my 980s, working fine. 980Ti should nail it.

With shadow distance on medium, everything else bar Rays on Ultra I get 70fps+ all the time

Thanks guys. What about 1440p, but with FXAA instead of TAA? I'm using a 32" 1080p but the pixel size is starting to bother me a little.

I'm running 1440p via DSR with everything on max except Godrays and it seems fine. I haven't been logging framerates but there's been no noticeable stuttering or slowdowns.

My 980ti runs the game @ 3440 x 1440p on Ultra with Godrays on medium rock steady 60fps...except for the odd un-optimised areas of the game, where it drops down to 40-50fps for no reason, with the CPU and GPU usage around 60%.

Great. I guess what I should do is buy the 980Ti on black friday, and up the game to 1440p using DSR and reduce the FSAA qaulity and see how it performs before considering a 1440p screen...

A vast majority of the time, I'm able to hold a consistent 60+fps; I think the lowest I've seen it drop (with TAA+SMAA / Sweetfx), is about the mid 50s, though that isn't often. My CPU isn't all that highly overclocked, so maybe I could get even tighter performance if it was running at say 4.5ghz+, instead of 4.1 - 4.2.

It's a shame that the game doesn't run well with an uncapped frame rate, as some of the fps I've seen then is stupidly high / particularly very smooth.

True, but then I'd rather cap it at 60FPS contanstly, than have a higher average FPS because it shoots up to 150+ some times. I hate the stuttering that occurs when the FPS fluctuates all over the place.

I'm running a 980ti @ 1440p with everything maxed out and get over 60 easily when not capped.

It's only took a dive once to the right of diamond city but that's since I've put the wasteland mod on to reshade.

70 hours and 31levels in and quite a bit of exploring done. Only just finished the minutemen/mirequeen quest so as you can imagine I have a HUGE backlog of quests to now get stuck into. Im going to go to goodneighbour first to see why people keep talking about it then...cracks fingers...time to see what the story is like
