**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

The extra ammo perk helps top up your funds. I have never had an issue with caps, having bought all the junk possible and the best weapons. Starting up your own traders helps too.

The unique vault 81 gun is one of the best in the game, especially once modded.

The armour comes in 3 different tiers, one could label them as Light, Medium and Heavy. It confused me as well, so I installed this little mod:

Armor Tag Sorting by Chronos1172 - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4878/?

It's been updated now I see and can either write out the different label for them or pick the one I using, +, ++, +++ to show what is what. A single + is for light, ++ for medium and +++ then for the Heavy armour. My guess is that your reinforced armour is a heavy armour and the right arm you found is medium, or might even be a light armour one.

Thanks man! I installed the mod but regardless of which display option I pick, it doesn't work...

Well, it does work when looking at inventories while trading. That's not enough though, what did I do wrong?

My bad, any armour you had in your inventory and containers when installing this mod it said you have to drop them and pick them back up again for it to work. Have you done that ? If you have, then no clue why it's not showing for you. :( I had to do that myself, since at first didn't show for me either in my inventory or containers.

Mark A - The Weapons Trader in Diamond City, Artouro I think, he has a Unique Item, Old Faitful, although a Laser Weapon and not sure if any Legendary drops a weapon with same attribute as this one has. I not had one dropped anyway. He also selling a Fat Man that shoots 2 Nukes on the cost of one, which I think (not 100% sure) is the only Fat Man in the game that does that. That is if you interested in either of these kind of weapons. :p

I'm going on a shopping spee later then :D. I didnt know there were unique weapons at traders.

Vault 81
Is that the one where you find Curie?

You also have Unique Armour with some traders but think those have same stats that can be dropped from Legendary peeps. Also, have you retaken The Castle yet ?
If you have and done the quest Old Guns, a certain person becomes Trader there and sells another nice weapon. :p
As in regards to Vault 81:
Yes it is and not to spoil to much, I just say this: Be Careful. :p

Fantastic, that worked like a charm and you were right about my combat armor tiers!

Probably a really obvious answer, but still not figured it out. There seem to be some weapons with what appears to be 2 types of damage at the same time? Is that the case or is it mealy stating what type of damage that weapon is doing?

You can upgrade armor but for better upgrades you'll need points in armorer perk, science for power armor

There is also a very powerful semi-secret armour crafting. I have a fancy hat that gives more protection than my complete set of fully modded combat armour (tier 4 armourer perk).

If you carry out Railroad missions for either PAM, Tom or both (I did both, so I'm not sure which is required) Tom will at some point mention that the most useful thing recovered from a cache was ballistic weave and will start to sell armoured clothing. This also gives you a previously unavailable crafting option on some clothing which at the highest level (requiring tier 4 armourer perk) allows you to make clothing with 110 ballistic protection and 110 energy protection. Some hats can be made with it. Some clothing can be made with it, including some that can be worn under armour. So that's 220/220 armour in addition to whatever the armour you're wearing gives.

Also a problem with Sanctuary still:
I sometimes lose population, when I hover over workshops in Sanctuary it has an exclamation mark and says 0 water food etc, but then I fast travel there, and I have more than 20 surplus food, 10+ surplus water, more than enough power, enough beds, etc...

Why does this happen ?

I don't know why that was in spoiler tags, but I'll put the answer in them as well or else putting the question in spoiler tags would be pointless.

There is a known bug which causes a settlement to show shortages that don't actually exist. Going to the settlement fixes it, but it still affects the happiness rating in the settlement even though the shortages never actually existed.

I suppose it might not be a bug per se. It could the result of synth infiltrators spreading false information in order to undermine your settlements by causing dissatisfaction amongst your settlers. That doesn't explain how your settlers could think that the water and food supplies in their own settlement had suddenly disappeared, but maybe the Institute has mind control! Maybe all of your settlers are synths!

On the subject of weapons, I seem to be odd in that I only carry 2 weapons and only use 1 of them.

I have a legendary 10mm pistol that does 10 points of cold damage in addition to the usual ballistic damage. I found it early on and used it a lot for a while, but it doesn't do enough damage to be useful any more.

I have a fully crafted combat rifle that does +50% against ghouls. Not a particularly useful legendary bonus, but better than nothing. Uses .45 ammo, does 92 damage per shot (I have some levels in the rifleman perk). I use it for all ranges, although it's not very good at short range because it has a long barrel. I did have a recon scope on it, but it was large enough to be too annoying to carry around (the way the character carries their gun is unrealistic in my opinion) so I switched back to a long scope.

That's it. I use the rifle exclusively. I have dozens of other weapons in storage because I keep all legendary items I find and I have various other guns I might craft and use (assault rifle, 50 calibre rifle, etc) but at the moment that rifle does everything.

Don't think I could play with just one weapon. I carry 7 or 8 with me :) 1 melee (for the bloody flies, I die in pretty much each encounter with them and have to reload and try another approach), suppressed 10mm pistol, laser rifle from BOS, 2 sniper rifles, 1 with night vision scope on it and 2 automatic rifles
I might reduce it a bit now that I have plenty of ammo for each.

I wish I could do that but I like to stick to just a few. I'm going to get a good knife or other small melee weapon, see if I can't do some stealthy kills :)

I find stealth very difficult with companions mind, especially up close. It was great fun in Skyrim stay in the shadows and killing with a good bow :D

Overseer's guardian and instigating gauss rifle > all other weapons.

Gatling Laser is probably up there or even slightly better once you get the right perks

For myself the Base Gatling laser has a base damage of 189 per shot while the Base Gauss has 552 per shot. (I assume the instigating for each each have double that) but the Gatling becomes so OP in VATS. Each Action point fires something like 10 shots in VATS. When you activate critical it applies critical to each of those 10 shots (can be abit more or abit less). Long story short with 2.5 critical damage each shot in Vats for the Gauss does 1380 (or 2760 as I believe VATS charges each shot), while for the Gatling it does about 4725 per action point. Unless my Math is way off.

Either way both are OP everything including Mythic death claws, Super mutant Primes and warlords are downed in one hit on survivor.

Seeing those figures makes me wonder what the instigating versions / double shot version would do  Moreso if you fire the gauss from sneak attack + silencer you can attach with sandman and Ninja perks

Think I am on the final battle, rather tough assaulting the Brotherhood(which appears to have respawned since I already killed them all) on survival difficulty. Awesome. :D
