**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

I've tried it and it doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm getting clipping with the whole section, not just the piece I was looking at to select. Annoying.

Also annoying is the wood issue. I've just used ~1500 wood on County Crossing and all I have done is the outer walls and almost all of the ground floor of my planned 8 storey settlement building that's 9x7 large floor sections. I've plans for an inn, kitchens, food storage, laundry, bathhouse, lounge and 24 flats, with 2 lifts and 2 fire escapes. I think it's going to take 5000 wood.

It seems a bit.... inconsistant. I couldn't get a piece of floor to patch a random hole in the floor of a house because it was clipping with the wall despite there being no other issue. Keep at it and try obscuring what the camera can see when you're trying to place too. I used it fine in a few places (patching jagged holes in walls with a piece buried in the wall. Went round the other side and buried another piece so I had a nice surface inside and out, no issue.)

Gonna ask a dumb question. How do you take power armour from fallen foes? Can only seem to take the parts, how can you take the whole shell?

You can't take the frames (unless can get them to vacate it while alive by hitting/or pickpocketing the fusion core and even then it's flagged as stolen). You can buy them from the Brotherhood, Atom Cats and (I think) the weapon vendor in Goodneighbour though.

You also find a couple around the wasteland. I not even using them but have 5 frames for now at Sanctuary, 4 with more or less all armour and one total blank that I found at an array after cleaning out the inhabitants there. :p
If I remember right, the weapon vendor at Diamond City, forgot his name, he also sells them.

150hrs played so far and I'm nearing the end.
Just off'd Danse and have been ordered to wipe out the Railroad so that is my next port of call

Absolutely love the game - outside of the main quest. The main questline is a just a disaster, a complete mess of proportions that only Bethshshda could obtain. Nothing makes sense at all.

Just had to take out a major character. I felt no remorse as I blew his brains across the room. All of the factions are useless in their own way so I've sided with the BoS - not perfect but imo they're better than the rest. A lot of key encounters with certain characters are just emotionless.

Beththehsda do know how to make a stunning world though, filled with great random encounters and mini-stories of what folks (now dead) were doing the moment the bombs fell. It can be touching and disturbing in many ways and they have nailed that once again. Also The Glowing Sea has to be one of the most memorable areas in a sandbox game I've seen in a good while.

The settlements idea is shoddy and tacked on so poorly that I am incredibly surprised that savegames aren't getting corrupted left, right and centre as folks mess around with various mods. The vanilla house building tools are a complete mess. Ultima Online has better house building and that thing is ancient!

The engine itself is incredible - the ingame lighting is some of the best I have seen and I can't wait to see what they do with it next. The weather effects, especially with the True Storms mod just leave me in awe.

In my opinion Fallout 4 suffers from a huge identity crisis. It doesn't really know what it wants to be. It is a poor RPG, a somewhat poor FPS, and a good adventure game to an extent - it seems confused and doesn't excel anywhere.

Bin it? The engine is a wheezing mess. God rays and rad storms look nice but the rest of it is a dog's dinner

It's not THE best looking game but it's serviceable enough to look "decent" if you aren't spending time looking for graphics problems. I'm playing and enjoying it without anything jarring attracting my attention (ok apart from that one patch of very low textured road on one of the gunners bridge bases).
Agreed also on how "cheap" parts of the main story feel (though I've avoided most of that.... forever, hours and hours in and probably only half way through the main quest. I always play the sandbox first and the questline second, gets me more for my money).

Seen this happen on other's screens but can't remember the fix. Anyone know why my game is doing this crappy pixellated blur effect?

I still have problems with Sanctuary, the moment I leave it somehow has insufficient beds and happiness drops, when I'm in it, more than enough beds. How do I solve this bug ?

What is the button to move items around btw ?
I also accidentally marked ceramic items, how do I remove this mark ?

Not sure if you resolved it but saw it mentioned in the comment section of Gopher's last playthrough that some players have this bug due to they built TV's in their Settlements.. Now, not sure if this is the case for you but if you built any TV, srap them (and if you have anyone turned on that was there before, turn it off) and see if that helps ??

What bug?

beds, food, power, etc turn to zero or just reduced when fast traveling or entering/exiting building on the settlement that have tv or radio. i have that bug. just google it, it seems a lot of ppl have it.

+putridspit I'm not sure about radios, since I stop building TVs I didn't catch this bug, I still have some bugs with moved in companions, some times they count as +1 to ppl, then suddenly they stop counting.

+putridspit Radios are fine it's just t.v's that cause the glitches

God rays set too low.

It happened for 'most' on low, but also for me on high. Though on high it wasn't as noticeable so I lived with it.

Am I ever not going to have to worry so much about ammo?

I took a break after whoring it for a couple of weeks. Currently lvl 30. I havew to have about 5 guns on rotation to not run out of ammo on my good guns lol.

Have you taken the Scrounger perk in the Luck Tree ? I only have one level in it but have more ammo then I can use up. There is also a mod where you can make your own ammo if you wish to use it. :p

I have 3 perks in that lol. I wont be using a mod to make it easier. I guess I'll just have to be less trigger happy.

The main problem is the legendary spawns, some of them are real bullet sponges...

Hmm bullet sponges ehh, sounds like you playing on survival ?? I just playing on Hard so guess the drop rate differer as to what level you playing at as well. Which in a way make sense I guess. :p

In regards to the mod, I ony installed it so I could make some .44 ammo really, not sure why but after around 60ish hrs play time I had found less then 20 .44 bullets in total. Really wierd, everything else plenty of but those, nope! And I really, REALLY wanted to use that .44 Revolver I found like 30hrs or so into the game, so installed that mod. Yeah yeah, I know, could just used the console command and spawned some .44 ammo but felt more right using the mod and breaking down other ammo to make the .44 ones. So there you go :p And No, didn't want to buy the .44 ammo either :p

I guess I'm playing on normal? in that I've never changed it?

Hmmm. This is embarrassing... lol

I guess I just need to l2p

Don't worry about it. If I can sneak up on them I normally don't have to use many bullets. On the other hand, if I end up getting suprised by several, or teleport to a settlement under attack, then I normally spraying bullets all over the place ! :o

They're surprisingly common, even without buying any. I'm going to build an emergency defence storage in some of my settlements, containing a few complete power armours with fusion cores and miniguns on a table next to them. Just for roleplay - these are for settlers to use if attackers somehow make it through the outer and inner defences and it comes down to fighting rather than just looting the corpses after the automatic defences have killed all the attackers. I have 3 with fusion cores fitted in Sanctuary, so settlers could actually use them in an attack...if any attack on Sanctuary lasted long enough for any settler to get into them. I loot and scrap everything, so I have enough parts to build a lot of turrets. Sanctuary has about 400 defence now.

I have a suit of almost complete X-01 power armour (it has a T-60 left leg) for my own use, if I ever use power armour.

I'm currently L53. I use only one weapon - a fully modded Overseer's Guardian with a 308 receiver. I've used only that weapon for quite a long time now. I have just dipped below 1000 rounds of 308. I had ~1700 when I started using that calibre, so I am running out (albeit very slowly). I have not bought any ammunition other than a few dozen .45 rounds much earlier in the game. I was low on ammo a lot earlier in the game, often restricted to .38 popguns.

I have only 1 rank in the perk that gives more ammo in containers - it didn't seem to make much difference.

The biggest difference came from how much damage I do. The less ammunition you use, the slower your stock decreases. I think that's a key factor in ammunition use, so I think that gun modding perks and damage perks are more useful than scrounging perks. Also, I'd avoid automatic weapons entirely apart from the unique machine gun Spray and Pray just for the amusement value of the sheer ridiculousness of being able to carry 3000 bullets, fire a hundred or more per minute...and have them all EXPLODE! on impact.

You've got a couple of missions left before the factions objectives start to overlap and a couple more after that before it's time to make a permanent choice on who to side with. If you want to play everyone against each other until the last minute. then just be wary of one particular brotherhood mission (no story spoilers, just a quest name)

When the BoS leader tells you to talk to Tuvok (can't remember the characters name) after the quest "Blind Betrayal" it's time to walk away, even inititating the conversation for that quest will make you enemies with the railroad, near as I've seen every other "This will make you an enemy of <X>" thing has a way to doublecross or just ignore it and go side with someone else but that one is poor

Have now reached a couple of the "PNR's". Warning - extreme spoiler, you have been warned!!

The first one which is very obvious is between the BoS and Institute when you go to retrieve the reactor core. You also need to side with the Institute if you want to continue with the Railroad or as a Minuteman. However the split from the Institute (and Railroad) into the Minuteman is not flagged at all - mission is "Pinned" and you have to go to one of the settlements and either kill the synths trying to teleport a candidate, or do nothing. Even then, if you support the Minutemen you don't get a prompt what to do next, just by chance I went to Sanctuary and spoke to Garvey which then triggered the Castle Defence. Already kind of regretting the choice, as Cait summed it up, "Why the hell are you siding with these bloody farmers?"

I think if you want the Railroad ending you continue to work with the Institute for a couple more missions while planning the mass escape behind Father's back. (I think "Tactical Thinking is the PNR there).

I have only used power armour twice - both times in the Glowing Sea just to avoid death by rads... Really don't see the need for it with my build. That being said, I do 'enjoy' collecting a full set of each power armour set, with each type o coating/paint....I'm nowhere near complete, I have only four frames and only 1 complete set (Raider II, which is trash).

Regarding ammo, I'm not having any issues there, havent throughout the whole game. As someone else said, focus on perks for increasing damage and focus on modding weps to get the best damage and accuracy from them.
