**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

I have only used power armour twice - both times in the Glowing Sea just to avoid death by rads... Really don't see the need for it with my build. That being said, I do 'enjoy' collecting a full set of each power armour set, with each type o coating/paint....I'm nowhere near complete, I have only four frames and only 1 complete set (Raider II, which is trash).

Regarding ammo, I'm not having any issues there, havent throughout the whole game. As someone else said, focus on perks for increasing damage and focus on modding weps to get the best damage and accuracy from them.

Hazmat suit took care of the Glowing Sea but apart from a few occasions must admit I haven't bothered with the Power Armour - even now in my first endgame period
Minuteman, defending the Castle
I just stuck with the Silver Shroud coat. You don't need to repair it, you don't need to remove it to craft or sleep. One of the few times I wore my BoS T60 set was during the "play-offs", for want of a better description, to see if I could wind up the Institute but not a single comment clunking round their gloried vault muttering Ad Victoriam!

I have another annoying bug, I have a ''pip boy'' or ''vault'' headlamp on one of my armor.

Sometimes, the pattern in the light is extremely low res/pixxelated, fast travelling fixes it to regular res. Why would it do this, I have 6gb of Video RAM ?

Rubbish:

Good:

Also the game in general seems to use way to little RAM, loading times are terrible on HDD (I used to play Skyrim from SSD), I have 24 GB and game has just 2.5 GB assigned ? Why ? The game is 25 GB, and my total ram use is just around 5.1 gb when playing it (in comparison, GTA5 which is 50gb, I get 11-12 gb of RAM use). Now hopefully Windows will cache some, but that's highly inefficient.

EDIT: also the random framedrops are silly, even lookting at the floor getting just 35 fps for no reason for a few seconds, afterwards everything is 60 again.

I fired up the game just now to have a quick go after not playing for a while. Built a massive 3 story building in my settlement, came out of the menu, game has frozen.

****you Bethesda!

Probably need to Spoiler any replies to this but I'm now in the Minuteman end-game (post Castle) and realized I haven't encountered the Super Mutant companion Strong. Have I blundered past the mission to locate him as it seems too late in the day now?

It's the trinity tower quest. So listen to trinity tower radio around diamond city/goodneighbor area if you haven't already.

I'm really considering cheating and adding loads of materials by console. I like the building side of the game, but it is too grindy gathering stuff.

It would be good if you could assign certain settlers to scavenge for a certain material... One for modders no doubt.

Meeting Strong has nothing to do with the Minuteman Quest line or any of the others. But incase you do want him as an Companion, I spoiler the answer.
Strong can be found through the Quest: Curtain Call. This Quest can be picked up when you receive a Distress Call once you close to Trinity Tower.

Nope, he's up in one of the big towers. Make sure to pickup the various armours dotted about you can equip him with.

He's got some good dialogue but I prefer Cait at the moment and just about to take her on the journey to one of the vaults to get her off the Psycho drug

I'm myself doing all the faction companions before having to pick a side:

So far I have:
Cait, Piper, Valentine and Preston maxed and romanced (well except valentine, but got his perk).
I'm about 80ish % with Paladin danse.

After I'll do:
Deacon and X6-88

I have all others: mr. Strong, curie, codsworth, hancock and maccready available, but will do them later on.

I have removed the TV, and since then no more problems with insufficient beds in Sanctuary, but I'm still stuck with it (not) growing, and it sometimes showing with an exclamation mark for no reason with happiness dropping (until I travel there), wtf :

These types of bugs do my head in.

I will almost certainly do it for wood because I think it's more realistic within the context of the gameworld. There are a lot of trees around and I have a lot of settlers. It's internally consistent for me to have a lot of wood to build with.

For the rest, well, not so much. Steel to a lesser extent, from the remains of cars still lying around on or by many of the roads. Maybe nuclear material, since the cars were nuclear powered.

I'll probably leave it until after the main game though, because it would give me an advantage within the game and that feels like cheating. The advantage would be all the experience I'd gain from building huge settlements. Although the ludicrous load times for fast travel are really grating on me in this respect. 3 minutes just to travel 4 times to get 200 wood (to the 3 vendors I know of who sell shipments of wood and then to the settlement I want to build in).

It's incredibly hard to get a settlement to 100%, probably impossible to do it through normal play. That's why after all this time only 0.9% of people have it on steam.

There are guides out there to show how to easily do it, which is the only way unfortunately. I think one of the requirements is having no companions present in the settlement for some reason.

Thanks (also to the others who replied). Little point in doing it now, but once I restart will ensure I check it out. I've also not bothered with Macready either which I'll make sure I attend to on a second more in depth play through.

Yup, the fact even my 980ti struggles in places is really annoying. :(

I've found that "godrays" seem to be the cause of a lot of unexplained fps drops. After dropping them to medium (with everything else on ultra) the game runs WAY better. Something so simple shouldn't be causing such a huge performance hit.

surprised anyone with a 980 Ti is struggling frame rate wise on this game - unless running at 4k ?

I'm running at 1440p, no AA, but everthing except shadows set to high - so that includes Godrays at Ultra, and most of time I'm in high 50s, or at the frame rate limit at 60, worst case it drops to about 45 - but pretty rare

this is on a 290 overclocked

Shadows do noticeably pop into view much sooner on medium unfortunately but i would rather have 60fps than 40-60.

These are the numbers of shadows in the Fallout4Prefs.ini for the various settings.

Low 1000
Medium 3000
High 14000
ultra 20000

Notice the massive increase between medium and high. I manually set it to 5000 for a while but still ended up going back to 3000 in the city.

I've got a really frustrating bug. Currently the game is running ok, but when I leave the game paused in the main menu or pip boy for about 20 mins and continue, it becomes unplayable. Whenever I move the mouse the game freezes for about 2 seconds, but when i stay still it runs fine.
