**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

Ok, so I have played the game for 27 hours and have got "The nuclear option" ending.

I am about level 28 in the game. I found the game very enjoyable, but got a bit of a grind towards the end. I did a lot of fast tracking. Am I really missing out that much if I just move on?

Yes. The main storyline has never been what the Fallout games have been about. The Commonwealth/Wasteland etc and all its secrets has always been the main part of the game. So much to explore, and so much more lore/funny stories/interesting quests/interesting story lines/snippets into history throughout the Commonwealth.

On an unrelated note, strolled across a full suit of X01 Power Armour today - was somewhat shocked as I'd not even found a full set (or even half set) of any power armour before this, yet... Always missing helmet and arm/leg at the minimum.

I popped into Sanctuary the other day (Lvl 54) and a couple of Radscorpions including a Legendary one were in the high street, a couple of the settlers helped themselves to the power armour I had left in the vegetable patch, they still only had pipe pistols though, it took them a long time to finish the Radscorpions off. I shall start to tool them up.

Are there any mods that stop or lower the accuracy of NPC nade spamming? Really sick of their 100% hit rate. I just got killed from an NPC below in a crater than couldn't even see me, yet his nade landed perfectly at my feet and detonated instantly.

It's really annoying...

Starting to feel the limits of the game straining a bit now. Need to increase my settler limit as I don't have all of the people I want at my main one, I'm also gonna download a few mods that add new signs and stuff for stores. I'd also like to clean everything up a bit but can't find a mod that really does that well atm.
... Unfortunately, NMM is not working for me atm and I'd rather keep all mods in one place.

Can't wait for the day you will be able to download just one mod that will make the settlement building truly brilliant!

You might like to try Homemaker, Alternate Settlements or Safe SSex (safe settlement supplies expanded). Or all of them.

Main quest done in 27 hours? You'll have seen perhaps 20% of the content in that time... Get back in there :p

Can anyone with a similar spec to mine give me an idea of their performance (and settings)? I'm struggling to get more than about 25fps, with regular dips down to 15 and wondered if the problem is software driven.

Q9650 (3.6Ghz)
8 Gb RAM (stock)
7950 (GPU overclocked to 1200 in Catalyst - RAM stock)

Currently running:
1080 / TAA (Best quality) / 16 Samples
Detail: H,M,M,M,H,L,S,SSAO (High)
Distance: Medium/Medium with the sliders mostly on lowest or just off.

Above settings taken from one of the optimisation sites as the best without performance hit.

Ive probably spent 90% of my time changing the look of my character, then played the other 10% in first person mode never to even see her :o

I need some help here please: So basically I have been having the very common micro stutter issues with Fallout 4. I am PC gaming this game on my 48" Samsung 4K TV with an i7 4790k cpu, 16gb ram and Nvidia GTX980ti.

I managed to fix the micro stuttering by reducing the size of my desktop size, changing my Nvidia control panel from 3840x2160 (native) to 1920x1080, select 1920x1080 at the Fallout 4 first menu screen and also select WINDOWED & BORDERLESS. The game then runs 60fps silky smooth, full screen with no micro stuttering at all, great. BUT, its a bit of a pain in the a$$ to keep changing my settings like that everytime I want to play this game. I can not for the life of me find a way to run this game 3840x2160 windowed and borderless on a full screen. Can you help? The reason I want to run Windowed & Borederless is I believe this is the way to eliminate the micro stuttering. I can run this game 3840x2160 windowed & borederless but it only fits part of my TV screen, not full screen. Any help much appreciated.

So basically what I want is this: 3840x2160, windowed & borederless, FULL SCREEN!

I decided to semi-rp an alternate timeline in my new playthrough. I chose to be the female character in a sort of "what if" type scenario.
Rather than be level headed and explore the options available to me, I decided instead to pursue a guns blazing, logic out the window, bad time of the month type strategy, with a character whos utter determination to find her only son, has led her on a path of estrogen fueled mayhem.

Following the Institute quest line, I also discovered what I believe to be the single most hilarious part of the game -

Choosing what to say during the recording of the Institute broadcast. "We are here, and we are your masters":D

Have you used the config tool from nexus mods?

Right then, I've just finished the main quest:

I had a problem choosing a faction to side with at the end of the game.

  • Minutemen - Couldn't really find a fault with them, they seem to hold the best interests of the people of the Commonwealth. Preston is annoying as hell but out of the 4 main factions this is probably the one I should have sided with. The only things that put me off were the lack of technology and the fact that there's always another settlement needing help even if it's the one you helped 10 minutes ago, I know these radiant quests are just filler jobs for the end of game but even so...

  • The Railroad - Didn't like them at all, I wasn't fond of them in Fallout 3 either and a bit of that carried over into this. Probably it's mainly because I don't believe Synths should be treated the same as humans, they're machines created for a purpose and all of this freedom fighter BS just rubbed me the wrong way. There are humans in the Commonwealth who are suffering and need help more than a bunch of androids but all the Railroad seem to care about is liberating artificial lifeforms.

  • Brotherhood of Steel - Started off likeable, I really liked Paladin Danse and the other two in the police station, Elder Maxson is a tool and I hate the way he talks down to the player. I actually ended up sticking with them which I think was a huge mistake. They don't have any problems exterminating entire races and some of the missions that were given to me were questionable to say the least. The mission from the quartermaster who asks you to "persuade" the local farms into handing over crops to the Brotherhood wasn't a quest that I enjoyed, neither was the one where you're ordered to destroy the Railroad just because. I didn't agree with the Railroad's ideology but wiping them out completely was a bit extreme, also I didn't like the fact that the world has already been decimated by nuclear weapons and yet the Brotherhood have no moral issue with whipping out the nukes once again.

  • The Institute - First of all by the time I reached The Institute I couldn't have cared less that the director was actually my son. The game does such a poor job of making you care about your child that it really made no difference to me whatsoever by that point in the game. In the right hands their technology could return humanity back to the pre-war days but all the stuff involving synths infiltrating and assassinating doesn't sit well with me. The only reason I didn't actually side with them though was because I didn't want Brotherhood Vertibirds showing up after every 5 minutes at the end of the game. I'm assuming if you side with the Institute your last mission is to destroy the Prydwen but I wasn't sure if the Vertibirds were also stationed at the airport. I didn't want to risk Brotherhood Remnants constantly interrupting me after the main quest had ended especially as I seem to have such rubbish gear still. :o

On an AMD card, it's worth reducing or turning off god rays and volumetric lighting. The way they are implemented relies on proprietary nvidia stuff, so they don't work well on AMD cards. You can expect a 20% increase in average framerate from disabling god rays alone.

Incidentally, I found it far more efficient to gain performance from my 7950 by increasing the power limits and reducing voltages rather than from overclocking anything. I got three times the performance increase (and at much lower temps) from changing those settings at stock speeds than I got from overclocking to 1100/1575 with stock voltage and power settings.

Might be worth trying. Might be something specific to my card and not useful to you.

Main story related question
I've just seen Virgil in the Glowing Sea for the first time and hunted down the Courser - how far in am I on the main story?

Just over halfway depending which faction you side with. Things start to move fairly fast from that point on, well from as soon as you get inside the Institute. If you want to do side missions or grind your XP, as well to take a step back from the main plot now to focus on that.

Wow, the main quest(s) must be super short. I'm now just at the point where I feel I should start them, but I'm just one small step behind where he was - I've been to the glowing sea to see Virgil and that's it.
