dude you cannot counter that game formation, the mechanics of the game doesnt allow it.

somehow by setting up a 5 man defence you become invincible.

I have never ever conceded a goal with a 5 man defence.

the only way you can counter losing to it is by copying it and going for the draw.

the point is that it just isn't football it's finding a way to abuse a game engine and thats it.

which is why all these 5-5 players would get owned in tournaments as they rely on some engine exploiting rubber banding technique which only works with those formations
A good player can use 5-5 and still be good if they use 4-4-2 what I object to more so is the people that can beat better players than them simply by doing same move over and over because they have found a formation which allows them to score goals from very little effort or thought.

no just have one league for non customs and one for customs problem and moaning from people like me solved

it's no different from all the modern warfare 2 exploits and hacks people use/used it's not skill at all it's finding ways to abuse or circumnavigate a system or engine with exploitation.

i dont play to draw, i play to win.

people who use these formations do so because it guarantee's them a win against decent/poor players. and it guarantee's a draw against better player's.

its like what ranger's did to manchester united.

playing with 10 defenders and 1 striker, to ensure you get the draw against a better team.

its boring, anti-football.

it's a game, it should be played as one, using anti-football formations shouldn't be allowed.
 
I am just going to quit out if I see a daft 5 striker formation refuse to play these people.

no chance, they dont want to mess up the game mechanics.

the game is fine the way it is, they just need to ban custom formations from online ranked matches.

its like someone camping in a FPS game, we used to do it in socom with my clan on a desert map where the hostages were being held.

there was only 1 entrance, you positioned the hossies next to you, whilst you hid behind a wall. you placed claymores in front of and behind the door. nobody could then beat you, as rescuing the hostages was suicide (you detonated the claymores when you spotted them) and if they tried to grenade you, they killed the hossies meaning you won.

in socom 2 they decided to make 1 of the walls explodable into the prison where the hossies were being kept, this was to stop people from using this tactic. therefore there were now 2 entrance points and easy to get in without dying.

so in short of completely changing the game mechanics, the only way to fix this is to ban it.
 
I can see your point, using 5-1-4 is pretty lame simply because it isn't a formation that any sane football manager would ever use in real life. Fifa is meant to be a football sim now rather than an arcade-style football game so that sort of formation shouldn't give you an advantage. As some have said, it's similar to people boosting in COD, it's not how the game should be played and is lame.

spot on.

with a 5 man defence, you simply regain possession and hoof it up to your players, you dont care if you lose the ball because you know your defence is impregnable. also with a 5 man defence it doesnt matter if you pull 1/2 of them out to close down attacker's because you have more than enough cover.

if used by a decent player it's impossible to break down unless your playing someone who is godlike.
 
after reading that thread, below from nepenthez, sums it up exaclty as i have.

I'm not "upset" to be honest. It's just quite annoying. People abuse custom formations to make the game favorable for them. I refuse to do it. I play Clubs on FIFA10 a lot (well, I used to, before every club abused custom formations) - And, my club was ranked 10th in England. Then, out of no where, people started using these formations on clubs. 1 week it was 1 in 5 games, a week later 2 in 5 games, now it's like, 1 in 30 games they DON'T use the formation. So my club captain decided to use it for a game, to see what the fuss was about.

FIFA Clubs has never been easier. We played great football, we were something stupid up at HT, like 8-0 or something. But there was no sense of achievement. It was just TOO easy. I like working for my wins, and the game v you was tough, it really was. But it was only tough because, when I'm in possession, I find it easy to pass around your forward players, then I just hit a wall of men. I actually can't believe I scored 4 goals. I can't believe you only scored 4 goals. After watching the match back, you had 4 or 5 more chances that you should have put away, but every single chance you had (barring 2 goals, that was my stupid fault for throwing the ball to you from my keeper ) - was on the counter attack.

It's like, you soak up the pressure, because more often than not, your defense can handle it very easily, then you break. And it's crazy because you have the man on the ball (Lampard, in most instances) - And 4 runners running on the edge of my back 4. so it's like 5.v4 in every attack, and you only really had counter attacks.

Now, if that's what works for you, it's fine, use it. But I'm sure when you come up against a player who is only average (I don't think I'm the best, btw. I'm no Kurt - I know I'm good, but I could be a lot better in many areas) - you absolutely destroy them. You must do. You're a good player. I'm sure the group stages in the World Cup, and probably the first 5 seasons you played in H2H all resulted in people quitting on you, because what you do is so easy.

Listen, I don't want to project my carp on to you. It's your game, if that's how you enjoy playing it, then so be it. But you'll never find me using an unrealistic custom formation. It feels like cheating.

That being said, I will happily play you again, so long as you use a default formation
 
The solution is to simply separate it one league for customs one for non customs everyones a winner.
I know which league would be more fun.

Seriously C64 you have blamed just about every facet of Fifa so far in this thread for your lack of enjoyment\success. Either stop playing the game or try and improve by learning from your opponents. I think we've all blamed something other than ourselves in the heat of the moment, but most people soon realise the game isn't out to get us and we try and get better.

Custome tcatics are a part of the game, but I do think EA should may be try and prevent unrealistic formations (i.e min 2 midfielders). Having said that they still only have 10 players to use - the same as you. Try and think up ways of countering their formation.

haha, nepenthez is a regular on a forum i frequent. he fancies his skills on many games like fifa, mw2 e.t.c

he's a sound chap though. not sure why he's decided to get his hackles up about it.

tbf though, a 5-1-4 formation is pretty pathetic :)
