I don't think so, they cap them at 74 for that, but they just have insane stats.
FUT Fantasy is looking quite cool though I doubt many of the cards will be affordable.

Those "74" rated special silver cards annoy me, because the silver friendly tournaments are kind of like a self-perpetuating scenario whereby the people with the 'cheat' silver cards win the matches... and hence complete the objectives to win yet more cheat silvers, meanwhile it's a lot harder for the latecomers, who are already behind. So I've basically concluded that there's no point playing in that, I have two special silver cards but I will never catch-up with these guys. Basically the strategy must be to buy FIFA on release and do the silver cups from the start so you build up a good selection of elite silvers from the objectives. You literally can't catch-up otherwise because they hardly ever come as SBCs (I got Ashley Young), it's not like the other competitions where you can get good cards in packs, via SBCs etc, the Silver stuff is basically a closed shop at this stage, either you unlocked a bunch of special silver cards already, or you're dead in the water.
The 99 loan thing is interesting, getting a lot of flak on Reddit but I think it kind of makes sense. Realistically, these showdown cards are unlikely to play many games in your 'main' squad, so really they are there to be used for doing objectives where you need specific leagues or nationalities. And 98 matches (plus friendlies) should be plenty for that. People are saying "oh but you can't put the loan into future SBCs as fodder" - true, but the loan SBC costs less than the full card to begin with, so you could probably use the saving to buy a random fodder player if it came to that. Not to mention as a rule I don't like putting special cards into SBCs unless I have a higher rated card of the same player. Obviously I'd rather own the cards but I don't have enough fodder to do all these SBCs.

Every team I've come up against so far has had Van Der Sar in goal and in 20-30 shots, mostly one on one situations, he simply cannot be beaten!

I've made my peace with the fact I'm rubbish - I just come to this thread to vent when I've been ******-over particularly harshly!
Haha fifa can be very frustrating tbh but to get anywhere in the game you do need to play your rival games and enter weekend league or suppose you could just spend on fifa points (wouldn’t recommend).I tried all sorts - absolutely nothing went past him!

I've got about 6 or 7 at the moment - one for most of the big leagues and a few specifically for certain objectives (silver, first owned etc)

I tend to play 4-3-3 (4) with 2 x CM's and 1 x CAM

I can't say it gets me particularly good results but it's probably harsh to blame the formation!

I still play just the WL qualifiers and WL itself, I will probably play until the weather gets decent then my time becomes more limited. I do need a football fix though like I do a FPS one. I'm not striving towards better players now as they're all mega expensive so just play for the enjoyment, like the days of PES6 where you just played online for the fun, with a club team! It's pretty easy to accumulate coins in this game and build a competitive team, so I'll eventually swap players out for others but for the moment my team is decent.

Got to 45 points this WL with a 81 rated squad had no pace and turns out nobody can pass all to great either. Had some really wound up players messaging on PlayStation hopefully get somebody decent in rewards to upgrade the squad!
