***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Yeah, I think XI will slowly close in the next 18 months. They have the small expansions coming out over the next 12 months to increase the lvl cap as you mentioned but once XIV is out a lot of the players will move over and the population of the servers will drop lower leading to more merges and eventual closure.

It is a fantastic game but unfortunately one that is hard to get into if your late to the party so to speak.

From all the Alpha vid's and beta show offs I've seen, XIV really is going to be fantastic. I just really hope they don't make it too casual friendly or all the whiners that come from WoW will hang around and start calling for PvP this PvP that and take away from the main aspect of the game.
 
Doubt XI will close, more likely just condense the servers over time to keep worlds populated adequately and save money. Having said that, perhaps they may reduce the subscription fee at some point after XIV's launch, so that could get quite a few new players on there too.
 
I attempted to start playing FFXI back in 2007, but it was just too difficult to be honest, getting groups and such. Which is why I'm picking FFXIV on day one so I can start from the beginning like everyone else and actually be able to experience the game from the start, as FFXI's reputation is that it's a superb game once you actually progress a bit and get into a good linkshell. So I'm guessing FFXIV will follow in it's footsteps as a superb MMO and I'm looking forward to it.

I started playing FFXI since the Japanese release of Rise of the Zilart, then stopped for a bit, came back with the US release, again stopped for a year and joined an EU LS and had the greatest time.

I tried to come back in 2008 but it just wasn't the same. So many things had changed, it became incredibly hard to get a party. Most of my old LS buddies where gone, apart from a couple who had broken up the LS to focus on end-game.

I'm gonna try and stay with FFXIV for as long as possible (instead of stopping and starting) Hopefully the game won't have as many morons in as all the other MMO's I've tried. Finding a good LS was a must in FFXI and I'm betting FFXIV will be the same.
 
What "job" are you guys thinking of playing... or should I say focusing on?

I want to play healer as I did in XI and WoW but I'm worried they are trying to make healing less of an important role. I also dislike the fact the the base heal spell is an AoE heal, unless this will change. Then again there hasn't been a great deal of focus on group play in alpha.

I was a 75 thf/mnk/nin in XI so I will proberly be a Miqo'te (Pugalist?) in XIV which seems like it could turn into some sort of dual weild damage dealer.

Definately going to try a Lalafell mage caster similar to black mage in XI if I get into the beta though as well.

I beleive the Required spec that are out are for the beta version only and will probably be updated later after.

Also, I believe I have read the difference between races will be so slight that there will be no 'best race' for any discipline.

I hope this is the case as its works against the idea of freedom if they keep races that lean towards a certain type.

That's correct the difference in the races will be so small so it's only worth picking race based on looks.
 
tbh I have no idea at the moment. I still know very little on how the game plays. I've tried looking for videos and gameplay information but its still all really vague. SE only seems to be giving out information in Japan and not bothering to translate or share it with anyone else which is a bit strange IMO :confused:

Normally I'd play a tanking role on my first play through. Then specialize, like SAM/ARCH

Think I'll just have to wait and see.

I hope the Miqo'te of XIV have some brutal dual weild animations like they did in XI, they looked so deadly holding katanas and daggers imo!
 
Does the closed beta start next week? I think I registered for the beta when it first opened months ago, but I can't be sure if I did... so I registered for it again just now. If I have registered twice, will that affect my chances of getting a beta invite?
 
No, two different Square-Enix ID's/email addresses. Also, regarding getting chosen for beta, is it truly a random selection of people or do they choose based on what details you entered on your beta registration?

I think it's random selection at this point, there's around 15,000 testers per region for beta.
