***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Yeah same here, thats why I'm holding out handing over some moneys until the game is officially released to see for myself. I usually end up turning off shadows anyway so it might give a big increase in FPS for me etc.

Its just crossed my mind that XIV might have an FPS cap as its being released on the PS3 as well like XI was capped at 30fps because it was released on the PS2.

That would suck big time!
 
I doubt it, I've read on some of the fan sites something along the lines of the PC having higher res textures and such like as well as a higher rez, wouldn't imagine they would cap the FPS if they are going to these lengths to make the PC graphics superior.

I got 900 Points in the benchmark an im a tiny bit over the specs needed so im not following that at all.

And concerning game preorders, Do they only charge when its dispatched?


Yes they do! Hurrah, Ordered.

May have upgrade the PC abit by then though, Benchmark says I have no hope in hell of running it, But the reccomended specs say I do, Silly thing!

"Required" spec = bare minimum for the game to load up and run. Don't expect it to run smooth or look good on a required-spec PC.
 
Pre-ordered the Collectors Edition yesterday. Was originally planning on waiting a few months after release but excitement got the better of me.

I'm all for setting up a LS if anyone else is interested? If its anything like FFXI then... without sounding too cheesy... companionship is a must :o

I am trying to find some decent gameplay videos but I fail, all vidoes on youtube don't show much of gameplay. The game is out in 2 months time how come there's so little info and videos?

Theres not as many as you would think, but its because of the NDA so people don't want to risk getting banned.

They are around though, just need to look harder! :P

The E3 videos are good and the Alpha to Beta transformation video to get an idea of how much it has changed.

Also if you don't know this site, Order of the blue gartr has some good forums to gather info regarding XIV.

I'd hazard a bet that in a few weeks time or so there will be a leak of some sort when square decide to open up the beta to some more new people and make unrestricted login times.

Square have been pretty busy updating their JP and US websites (EU not updated yet as usual) So i would hope to see some more new information handed out officially soon atleast.
 
I decided to pre-order the CE, my score was above 2500 and below 3000 on both low and high resolutions, which gave the result of 'Standard performance', I'm guessing everything will be able to run pretty well with a mix of medium and high settings.

It's only just occurred to me that you were saying your machine meets the spec but the benchmark says you're under spec.

Supposedly you can solo just fine in XIV. Whether it will be a fun experience or a grind reams to be seen.

If your going to visit blue gartr, use firefox with adblock plus so you can disable the massive animated sigs that every other poster seems to have >_>

people said you could solo in the last one i managed to get a beatmaster to around lvl40 but it was bloody hard and i died a lot!
 
Anyone else feel like they can't be bothered with their current MMO (or other game) now there's a release date set?
 
FFXI? I think it might be coming to its end tbh, even more so when XIV is out, providing it isn't a flop. Its looking great though but we will know for sure next week when beta starts.

I quit FFXI in early 08, and I tried to get back into it last year but it really had changed, saying that I started again so it was such a grind and it just felt lonesome starting again and finding out that all my old friends had moved on that I started with, soon as I hit Valkurm I was sitting around for days waiting for a decent party and just thought **** ****.

Different story if you have been playing for years and have reached end game and built up friendships and found yourself a nice linkshell though.

I think it will be hard for them to pull in new people, I have no idea what its like now though, all the hardcore players will stay I guess providing they keep adding content which they said they will, like the new lv99 cap etc.
