******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

You do realise with the pre/post match stuff you can set your ass. manager to deal with all of that rubbish. Job done! You never have to deal with it again.

I am looking forward to this. I am not a huge footy fan yet I have spent 2057 hours in game....

I often follow the advice they give but then I don't mind the team talks. FM Classic made me miss them a lot, made me feel like there was nothing I could do when my team was playing badly.

Press conferences on the other hand, I would love to leave to the assistant manager. Unfortunately, they tend to do a terrible job at them and give stupid answers all the time. Really, I just wish they would make it so the media side of the game actually counts for something. Media interaction is a huge part of football IRL, yet it seems that all you can do in FM is give one player a very slight morale drop or boost. Media interaction seemed half-done when they put it in the game years ago yet it has barely changed at all since then. The fact that you could choose to answer a question calmly, aggressively etc seemed promising yet in practice it seems to make no difference at all.

I don't think the press talks effect morale that much. I never take them and my team doesn't appear the suffer. The only part of it I wish I had more control over was the internationals. I have the majority of my squad take part and I can almost guarantee I lose a few players to injury and because I don't take the media talks I can't slate the managers :D Whether or not that has any positive outcome I don't know.

Cloud save is selling it for me. It's a pita waiting for my save to upload to my google drive every time I want to go downstairs and play on the laptop.

I think i will give it a miss for a few years too much is lacking in tactics development for it to be really enjoyable.People do the most strange things and the fact barcelona play no beautiful short passing football makes it all the worse.

Hoofing the ball even when composure trained
Only being able to set players in certain pitch positions ( let us place them anywhere)
No ability to set boxes for player movement restrictions or maximum forward runs distance
No ability to give a player a fine/warning to unlearn a PPM or to learn one

I just want to be able to make this my Manchester United 2014 team instead of wasting a full summer on Fabregas i will spend my entire summer throwing money as Madrid for Ozil as they want Bale so badly.

The first of the FM14 Friday video blogs is now available:

Still thinking "just a point release". But then, a vid about the UI isn't likely to demonstrate anything radical, I suppose.

Having the "Upcoming matches in [month]" news item as a calendar view is welcome, especially if you can arrange friendlies from there [e: you can't, it would seem. Oh well].

Have to say, I was thinking of skipping it this year for the first time since FM09, but I'm struggling to get FM13 to work on Linux so I might have to get it.

Last Fridays news blog (sorry it's late)

Synopsis, basically in the last million FM's the inbox linked you to the world of FM, this one actually displays some of the information it generates and tries to put it to good use (mainly those little match reports that I never read), pretty useful but not really a ground breaking thing for this week.
