So please tell me how you judge a game before buying if not by reading feed back on forums ?

Primarily by playing a demo, or if that's not available (very rarely) maybe renting the game for a couple of days and judging for yourself, or, shock horror, reading a broad selection of reviews from trusted impartial reviewers.

If you trusted the majority of feedback on forums, you would never buy a game. Even with the most perfect game ever released, people would still find things to complain about. As I said, people are far far more likely to post on a forum if something is going wrong, than if everything is going well.

F1 2010 is a fantastic game, sure it has bugs and problems, but what game doesn't? You have read about a few bugs here and made up your mind, even though the vast majority of people who have the game are thoroughly enjoying it.

Bah great.. I've ruined this game for PS3 now. I've been busy updating the PC version with light mods, high res texture updates for the cars and got some tweaks here and there and the game on PC at 1920 x 1080 is amazingly good looking, sadly just tried the PS3 version..

Cars look like they float, lighting is wrong and I've also got a new cockpit view for the PC and that now means it looks all wrong on the PS3..

That'll teach me, I paid £32 for the PS3 version as well. It really does look a much better game after all the patches and updates and mods on the PC.

Even the pits are working correctly now. It'll be a good base for F1 2011 that's for sure, but can't believe how bad the PS3 version actually looks compared to the PC when you update the textures...

Just had a 20% race with my DFGT using fuel and trye sim on legend and it was a lot better then I expected, I didn't walk away with the win like I used to using sim option off, did come third - I enjoyed it... Shame the replay crashed.. Hmmmm

The guy who does the car skins is constantly making more and tweaking ones he already made. So I tend to keep an eye on them. The ones with RDDEV in the name are probably the best. Some people have even started to make old school car skins for Jordan, Renault and McLaren from back in the 90's so it's a good site to check out. I hope this helps anyone looking to make the game look a little better.

Edit: just to give you an idea of how good the light mod looks

I'm trying that Truelight mod atm, i do like it. I had that Track lighting mod, but i didn't like it and it makes the tyre smoke go blue...

I know you shouldn't be lighting up the tyres on an F1 car but still....

True light or Realistic Sun mod are winners imo. :)

I'm using the truelight V 1.02SE or something, its a much better light mod IMO as it does remove the blue smoke and tones down the lens flare. I was going blind racing around Canada with the bloom and lens flare codemasters have applied....

The truelight mod comes with three light settings, so you cant try a few out.

I also downloaded the RD Dev Ultra HD tyre mod, which as much better looking extreme wets and adds small labels to the tire wall etc... they look much better as they wear and scrub in.

the mclaren trexture update is a lot better then what codemasters did, codemasters got all the other cars looking quite decent but the mclaren looked wrong and seemed to float. The texture update fixes this, but adds an ugly black line around the front air vents. Other then this, top update for the Mclaren...

The Ferrari HD texture update is very sweet, I use the barcode version...

I'm quite happy with the game now with the patches and fixes... Happy enough to sit and play it a few hours at a time on the PC... Which is good. I think its now got a good balance of looks, speed and features.

I would just like to be able to view other cars as they drive around like in GP4 and have better replays but these aren't deal breakers...

Oh and some are saying the game has rubber banding?? I can't tell, I was racing Canada last night and I was pulling away from Schmacher in forth and catching Hamilton in second and webber was pulling well off into the distance..!! Seems fairly good to me, pit stop was fine too...

This one: http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/f1-2010-misc-54/rddev-truelight-1-2-se-v1-2-08-3528/

I've just given it a go and it's great. Pretty much the same as the one I was using originally but without the blue smoke and blue lens flare :) cheers for this it works very well.

I'm using the bright version with blur.

That's the one. I tried a few of them and finally settled with Truelight V1.02 bright with blur.

No blue smoke and when its really sunny its very bright - as it should be but you don't get an orange ferrari and using the RD Dev Mclaren texture update the chrome shines really well.. When you pass by trees and stuff you can see if reflect in the body work, very impressive. Not seen the Mclaren chrome so well done in an F1 game before..!!

Only problem I found is that the chrome from the Mclaren is a bit too reflective in the wet, but its about the only fault I could find with it. The lens flare was a nice touch in one way, but it always seemed to hit you in the face right on a corner and hinder you...

Give it a few more months and we'll see an RD Dev mega mod that'll update the whole game to HD textures etc... It'll come, you can count on that.

anyhow, glad you tried the light mod and liked it.
