how many laps are you doing, three

Sorry, what? I'm doing 20% or I wouldn't have pits stops. Have you played the game?

Why should I have to avoid everyone other car in the pit so I don't get held up? I can only pit in a certain window. I either pit early and waste the soft tyres or avoid the pits like the plague for another 2 laps at least and risk spinning off because my tyres are so worn.

Also, it's impossible to just "build a gap" when you're driving for Virgin and you have a Mercedes up your rear the entire time.

Besides, It should work. There's no good reason that it doesn't. You can find ways to get around it all you like but I shouldn't have to. It also ruins one of the key elements of F1 which is gaining track position in the pit stops since you'll almost always lose out.

Another good tactic is to use prime tyres at the start then move to options as late as possible. Also try and avoid 20-30% races because it's just madness in the pits.

I have never had this problem, and neither has anybody I've spoken to, doesn't sound like a problem with the game to me.

I have this problem and so have a few in this thread(read a few pages back) and loads on the CM forum.

I want the new update(if it ever comes) to put the Brazil GP right and the CTD right.

The game does crash to desktop a few times, has done for me. I also get something odd happen if doing a 20% race when 1 - 2 laps from the end the game stutters really bad and almost pauses... I think its something to do with the replay file being written or something.. HD goes nuts when it happens. But then it doesn't happen all the time.. Very annoying when it does happen as it mostly means I lose control of the car as lag is so bad, you drive off the track..

Dunno if it is the same thing, but Codemasters Grid and Dirt 2 have a problem with stuttering for me and others, due to the replays. The solution I and others use is to find the replay.pbf file, delete it, make a new one at 0 bytes and make it read only. Then the game can't write replays and thus the stuttering is solved. The downside is you don't have replays any more, but it seems the lesser of two evils.

Ooh thank you.. I can live with that. the replays are pretty woeful anyhow. I can only watch my own car drive around the track and not watch the action from other cars etc... Pointless if you ask me, I know how my race went lol I want to see what the others were up to..!!

Thanks for the tip.

I don't suppose you know where abouts this replay.pbf file is stored normally?

I don't wanna get anyone's hopes up too much because F1 2010 might be completely different but it's worth a try! I have no idea if it even uses the same file.

I am using Windows XP and I suspect Vista/Windows 7 will store it somewhere else - but you can find it with a hard drive search, if it exists.

On my machine the file is stored in these folders...

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Codemasters\DiRT2\DataCache\(user name)\replay

and

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Codemasters\GRID\DataCache\(user name)\replay

BTW I have both those games on Steam but they still use those folders to store the replay data nonetheless, not the Steam folder. Those files got very big, over a gigabyte IIRC.

you're just not good enough then, tough

I've got 140 to spend on a new gfx card, any suggestions that will work well with F1? I'd like something quiet and don't really want to overclock. Spec for pc is q6600 @ 3.0, 2gb ram, abit ip35 pro and corsair 520 psu.

Personally, I got a 5770 a few months ago for just over £100, works perfectly in F1, even at 1080p. My spec is almost exactly the same as yours, down to the Q6600 and the ram, and the 5770 copes fantastically well.

Something like that. There is an Nvidia card that is almost exactly the same price and performance, GTX 460, it's really just down to personal preference.

I just noticed you can get a 6850 for £140, not sure how this compares, I can only imagine it will be faster though. Your best bet is probably a spec me thread in the Graphics card subforum.

You can get a GTX460 for that. Awesome value for performance.

The OcUK Value card is £5 less than your budget at the moment:

Or

If you can stretch £5, get the Gigabyte OC card:

If you like F1, I think so. It's pretty much the only vaguely contemporary F1 game if you can't be bothered to mod rfactor to hell.

I'm really enjoying it despite the small flaws (which seem to be getting fixed slowly).

This game is £20 in a Steam weekend deal, is it worth that? Have they patched out the worst bugs yet?

It is worth £20, the patches have sorted some of the problems, but read some of this thread to see if you want to hand over £20 for it..

To me, its the only 2010 F1 game that has less arcade feeling but its not a sim then what is out at the moment.. As said you could mod the heck out of rFactor but this is as close to the F1 season of 2010 you'll get without too much modding..

With a gamepad the game plays ok, it really is a shame there isn't a demo as this game I feel is a bit marmite.. I like it, but others don't..

Hi folks

Sorry to take the lazy approach but I don't want to screw my game up beyond repair ^^

Is there a quick and easy lighting mod that works since the patch? The ENB one looked amazing IMO but I heard it doesn't work anymore. It brought my old graphics card to a halt but got a new 580 to throw at it now.

Don't like the dull browny greyness of the default colouring.
