***Official GCSE Results Thread***

Well, some contemplation before you start the next year can be helpful. I wouldn't leave it right up to the beginning of term.

The amount of GCSE's I have to sit is ridiculous so it really doesn't bother me. I have sat 9, and that was when I was 14. 14 for Christ's sake. I have about 15 or so next year. So much fun. :)

Good luck guys, but also relax! If you can string a sentence together you can at least talk your way into doing A-Levels at a FE college. :D

Why are you doing so many, or do you mean the number of exams you are sitting.

You've just brought up a problem which people have highlighted in the A-levels thread. By making GCSEs modular (and getting rid of year 9 sats), its possible to take exams in year 9, giving people essentially 3 years to learn the material and retake them.

Just the subjects that I have taken lead to a lot of exams. For example French, that is about 6 over 2 years. Geography, quite a few plus coursework. Engineering is 1. Oh plus extra sciences which is another 6 over 2 years.

Yep, I took many of my GCSEs as 'real mock exams' starting after Y9 SATS. i.e. it didn't matter if I failed as it was just a mock and I have plenty of time to retake. I ended up only taking a few exams in Y11 as I passed them.

One of the exam boards (Edexcel) have a system that allows you to view you results online, you get given your PIN by paper before you take your exams and you can register online to view the results which are released in about 6 hours...!

Oh okay. you did edexcel for everything? Sleep then get up at 6.

I'm going to sleep now too.

GCSEs

ROFL

Anyway, bets of luck guys. Providing you get 5 C's and passes in English and Maths you're just as well set as someone who gets 11A*'s. All they are is a stepping stone for A-Levels, which are a stepping stone for uni.

Don't patronise, they cause a great deal of stress for many young people. Furthermore, if you got 'merely' 5 C's at GCSE, your application would probably get lol'ed out the door in my field. And yes, they do ask for proof of them.

Best of luck to all concerned :)

However, what if you want to study medicine. A lot of medical schools ask for an A in English language. Most of them ask for a B minimum in English, Maths and Science.
Really? I wasnt aware of that- must be a new thing...

GCSEs do give some value/weighting to predicted A level grades because it can look wierd if you achieve so-so GCSEs but are predicted high A levels - sometimes indicates the prediction given might be over-ambitious or worth questioning...

Good Luck all - you lot are sadly nearly half my age :(

I was incredibly lucky with my GCSE's I think. Did no preparation with my mind on other things and came out of it with good results.

Good luck to you guys. But remember, GCSE's aren't the end of the world.

So we've had the A Level results. It's now our turn to receive results.
Good luck to everyone and hope that you get the grades you want and deserve.

I'd rather we don't have people coming in here posting things like "GCSE's don't matter" or "everybody gets A*s nowadays" because it's not helpful and simply not true.

Again: best of luck to everybody receiving results :)

Will it be another record breaking year? :p

Looks like you failed English. :o :p

Edit: Wow I can't believe how many people did the same thing...

Facepalm.

Was the case when I was applying, too (5 years ago). I wouldn't have been able to get onto my course (Comp Sci at University of Bristol) without a B in Maths and English.

Sorry I was referring about Medicine - I never had that requirement but that was 10+ years ago, though I guess its a given...
