I dont see how the chainsaw is a deterrant to tagging, for one with the chainsaw you have to be right up against them to have it work, with tagging they can have some distance between you and them and still be able to do it.

As for running after them usually when they tag you they roll away and do the roadie run, most of the time even if you run after them theyre out of range for the explosion to do any damage to them.

Also, if you're chainsawing the tag is a counter and slows the revs so that you can't chainsaw someone, there is however, no counter to the grenade tag.

Every weapon in the game is balanced bar the grenade tag.

Really like this game, not impressed with the aiming though. Wouldnt be so bad if the nasties didnt take so many shots to kill. But tracking from enemy to another is pretty iffy. Sometimes I'm toggling either side of the enemy trying to get near it. I tried it on a lower sensitivity but I found that too far the other way lol.

Hmmm not so impressed with this game sad to say, yes the gfx on it are brilliant but the actual gameplay leaves a lot to be desired for imho. Even on casual its becomes a bit tiresome trying to kill the enemy...as Dannyjo just said it takes far too many shots to actually kill the buggers and the actual movement in game leaves a lot to be desired for. For example trying to get cover while shooting is pretty hard...to me its just too many damn buttons to press to get anything going.

Dont know if im going to bother keeping it tbh, to me it seems like ive wasted £40 on something that really isnt too great a game..after all the hype of it.

Perhaps ill give it a few more days and see if it grows on me...i really do not like 3rd person shooters...hard to control and a general pain in the arse tbh. Think ill have to tell my bro in Canada to give this one a miss if it doesnt grow on me in the next few days.

Give it a bit of time.

When you first start out, everyone seems to get their arse kicked on the training mission and first act to begin with. You will soon get the hang of it.

The cover system is the core of the game, so try using cover and aiming from it rather than running about and shooting from the hip.

If you brother has any sense he will read a few reviews rather than take your word for it.

The game runs a simple 1 button control scheme, ducking in and out of cover simply involves the 'A' button. The enemy aren't human and the game was designed in a way that they take lots of hits to kill, thats why you can carry 660 bullets in 1 gun and 780 in another.

Hype is the killer of all games, don't believe or listen to hype, however I recommend you play it online because it's brilliant, as is it over Co-Operative (which is where the game REALLY shines).

I'm really enjoying the single player. The aiming is poor granted, but the game is fun. Multiplayer is fantastic in the aspect that it keeps the SP game play where GRAW didnt. But Graw kicks its butt in multiplayer fun. I think its the finishing moves that keep it lively right now but once they die off I dont see the multi having much lasting appeal.

I'm really not a fan of the hide and refresh either especially in multiplayer. The revival is cool but you hit someone with 20 shots they duck for 5 seconds then you have to hit them 20 more.

They are small gripes and just my personal feelings on multi. I dont see this game as a keeper. I will play it a couple of times on SP and then sell it. I'd still rather play in a full graw room.

I do think like Wyrdo said that co-op would make some difference. I think that would be better than multi.

Edit, I dont think many of us will be playing this come January.

Got it yesterday (as in Friday), completed it today, awesome game! I started on Casual then realised that was a bit easy, so switched up to Hardcore on act 2, completed the entire game on that difficulty apart from the final boss, I couldn't kill him no matter how hard i tried! Must have had 30 goes, doesn't seem possible unless you do it in coop! Dom is no use, he dies within 30 seconds, it's driving me mad! In the end I did it on casual, did it first try, no probs.

My only complaint is the lack of storyline, I never had any clue what the hell I was doing, it's as though they originally had a storyline and then ripped it out and were just left with maps with a few telltale signs there was once a reason for it all...

Overall though it's the best xbox game i've ever played! Might try out MP tmrow! :D

Started playing on Friday night at about 9, finished casual at about 1 this morning and went straight back into hardcore. Also played about 5 hours worth of multiplayer throughout the day. Just in case it wasn’t clear already I am loving this game. Single player was great fun although the difficulty seems a little odd, casual was too easy and hardcore seems to have been made for co-op making it a bit frustrating in single player as your team-mates die about 2 seconds after each battle starts. I really liked the length though, I very rarely finish games as I mostly play multiplayer and find almost all games lose their single player appeal well before they end but this had me sucked in the whole way.

The multiplayer is excellent fun too, I like that it takes a very different approach to other shooters as generic ffa and tdm no longer really interest me. I can see myself spending a lot of time with this although a I do worry that being such a team play focused game ranked matches with random people could become very frustrating.

Well hey if you fall hook line and sinker for game reviews then thats your lookout;), personally i find reviews of games to full of crap tbh and dont give any indication if a game is really that good. Plus this sort of game doesnt appeal to everybody...even if i tell my bro not to get it, i know he will but ive already told him to wait till it becomes cheaper then buy it...no point in him spending close to $80 to be disappointed...sorry if that hurts your feelings or offends you but thats life;)

Anyways decided after a small break to give it another go and it is growing on me slowly but im still sitting on the fence with this. Havent had a chance to play MP yet with it, perhaps its better game that way but ill soon find out.

Stuck on the level with the beserker and damn hes a hard but to crack but so far im just trying a few different things out before i figure out a way of avoiding him and his smash lol:p.

Spawn multiplayer was SO MUCH FUN last night. Give it a try with us lot later, if you don't cry tears of laughter when it turns into a chainsaw massacre, then we'll let you off saying that you're not impressed with the game :D

Well I haven't really touched my 360 for a while (got a few games I haven't even played, including Kameo I bought on launch day!) but GoW has been looking pretty good so I though I'd give it a bash. First ten minutes I was ready to lauch my controller into orbit, I really hate 'em for this type of game. Another five mins though and my fingers started to remember how to use the thing, I also started using the cover a lot more and taking my time rather than trying to charge everywhere and the game became a lot more fun. The A button for run and cover is doing my head in, as I'm constantly "sticking" to cover when I'm trying to get somewhere fast but it's not a massive problem. Only got as far as the finishing the berserker level (ran out of "game time") which was a right pain. I didn't have too much trouble avoiding the thing, but poor old Dom must have enjoyed its company!!!

Once I've finished the SP I'll be giving co-op online a go, dm style doesn't interest me much but I'll probably have a look...

All in all a very stylish game, I really like the feel and atmosphere of it.

Co-op is where it's at. Me and a mate got upto Act3 last night, and my jaw dropped as I saw what level it was....a rain based one

I love the game to bits, and tbh, GoW will cause a lot of dev houses to question their design standards now. Level design for example, as well as choke points where you get pinned down in GoW are brilliantly done. I know one thing for sure - going back to the brilliant CoD3 will be hard after getting used to the 'roadie run' one button system :)

I got it Thursday and have pretty much played it non-stop in single player and multiplayer since. I completed the single player game last night and have to agree with you that I think the story is the only real downside I can think of with the game.

The whole premise is a good story, its presented cinematically, there is lots of banter between the squad, its all set up really well, but just seems like it could have been more.

**Story Spoilers**

The story seems so underdeveloped in places. They never explain what the deal is with that Emulsion stuff underground, I assume its mined for fuel or something, which is probably why the Locusts are unhappy. Why is there a map of all the Locust tunnels left at the underground station? Whats the deal with that cutscene showing Carmine (or another Helmet wearing COG) being dragged along. I really didn't understand why when Anya mentions that the mansion they need to go to belongs to Marcus' Father that there is then no mention of that again. You complete a mission trying to get to the Fenix mansion and when you get there Marcus doesn't even say any reference to being home or whatever.... why even include that, it could have just been any scientist's mansion. Then when they get on the train, it's not really explained how they know that the bomb they need is onboard that, or why its onboard it and has a bridge that is out leading into the Locust tunnels.

General RAMM is introduced at the start and then we see nothing of him until the end when we only find out he is General RAMM because the mission text says so. I was also expecting a big fight with those huge walking things with the guns on their backs, judging from what you see in the trailers, but that never happens. Also, where was the Queen? Its obviously setup for a sequel, but considering how well polished the game is, I just feel the story was really mismash and they came up with ideas for levels they wanted and then worked a story around it. If they do a sequel, hopefully they will improve that aspect.

I sort of agree, the story wasnt really explained all that well, there was so much I wanted to know but it didnt explain.

Obviously there will be a sequel like you said, due to the ending, but its a bit of an ass having to wait til then for a story to be explained.

Either way, its still the best game I've played for years and the single player was still immense fun
