Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

my stock heatsink for my e6400 on my gigabyte ds4 only works for 1/2 second then stops. im trying to get it up and running, just bought them today, will it kick in if the temp gets warm, is this a power saving feature or something or should the fan be spinning constantly??

need help URGENTLY please.

Dont worry about it.

It will come back on after a further 1 or 2 seconds.

Mine did that... Made a stupid noise and for hours, I htought it was that my board or CPU was borked...

To kill off the fart noie, turn off the FAN warning and just give it a risk on the fan going off, cos it will come back on after a second or two...

Paranoia rules ... It also costs us hours of not playing with our new kit sometimes too eh?

make sure you have fan power set to PWN as this is for 4 pin fans ;)

One question is it best to leave multiplyer on x7 for a 6300 and is there any software better than easy tune for overclocking? just i dont wont to really use bios for OCing
thx ;)

hey all,

my ds3 is running fairly stable but im a bit paranoid about the heat coming off the NB and ram. seen a few people saying sticking a fan next too it solves the problem just wondering how theyve mounted them securely. shift my pc around a fair bit so i dont want things falling off every time i move it.

been looking at a few replacement heatsinks but doesnt seem to be much room once the cpu fans in, any one had any experiance with the Thermalright HR-05 Northbridge Heatsink on the board?

or seeing as ive got an eclipse would one of the thermal panel jobbies sort it?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Akasa_Cases.html

had a flick through and couldnt find any answers to this so far sorry if ive missed the same question

edit: thanks for the advice, bolted on the zalman bracket and 80mm fan seems to have sorted it, most chuffed

I have used a Thermaltake Soprano case for my P4 and an iCute case for the conroe... Both are nice looking, but not too hot cooling, inspite of the number of fans, however, the icute has 2x80mm that blow over the PCI slots, and I have used a modded air-flow duct to blow over its NB Block, and the Soprano fan on *** side window blows fairly well enough onto the Block to help out there... I have replaced the fan however with a Zalman and that alone has let me drop 6c on the NB.

In ever realised that my NB is actually hotter than my CPU? - is that normal?

Anyway, the case isnt really all that good as I said, however, noise isnt realyl too much of a worry and I am soon to be adding a pair of Papst 120mm in the front & rear just as soon as I can be bothered to. The iCute case is doing a better job even though its only got a single 80mm on *** front, however, the system overall is a lot cooler than the P4 one... Saying that, the P4 is hitting 4.2Ghz, so what do I expect?

Round up of 965 chipset motherboards at AnandTech

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2860

Overall, the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 performed the best in our benchmarks when not overclocked. This is a very good accomplishment and shows a level of consistency and fine tuning that was not matched by the other suppliers. However, the total margin of victory over the other P965 motherboards is less than one percent. It took several hundred hours of benchmarking to come to this conclusion and without those benchmarks it would have been impossible to tell the difference between any of the P965 motherboards tested today. Gigabyte has not solved their Micron D9 1GB module issue yet so they are stuck in the 450FSB range with our test components. So please guys, get this fixed. In the end we still congratulate Gigabyte on their accomplishment with the GA-965P-DS3. This board and a few others released this summer have restored our faith in Gigabyte.

Just installed mine.

Got everything set up as per my sig. Very pleased to get 3Ghz :D

Running my RAM @ 5-5-5-12 @ 748Mhz and giving it 1.9v

CPU @ stock volts :)

Just got to get some PC6400 RAM now so i can go even furthur :D

can someone help me get the highest fsb possible please, ive got it to 450, but not sure what voltages etc i need to change now:

I've got:

Gigabyte DS4 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo e6400 (using stock cooler for a few days)
Geil Ultra low latency 6400 2*1GB
Raptor 74gb Rev2

Currently i have increased:

ddr2 voltage: +0.5v (2.3v)
pci-e voltage: normal
G(MCH) OverVoltage: +0.1v
FSB Overvoltage: +0.1v
cpu voltage: 1.345v
timings - 4-4-4-12

Fsb: 450
multiplier: 6x
Pci express frequency: 100hz
System memory multiplier: 2
Cpu clock - 2.7ghz

do i need to up my G(MCH) or fsb overvoltage to push my ram further or something? also what are the "ultra", "fast", "normal" etc options for the memory??

Hi, I posted this in the sticky thread at the top but not sure if that was the right place to post, so I'll try here - if either is wrong please delete.

Hi everyone - new here.

Placed an order on the 25th and have now recieved my email saying my order has been shipped.

Now before I placed my order I did some checking around and asking questions on forums (Never knew this site had a forum) and pretty much everything I ordered was recommended by several people.

Now after placing my order I finally discover this forum and find out that the board and memory I chose may have conflicts - but on other forums these two were specifically recommended as the way to go.

Here's what I ordered:

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI)
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR)
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 GA PC2-5400 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400CL3D-2GBGA) (MY-015-GS)
OcUK MSI GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-041-OK)
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply (CA-018-OC)

So you see I have the DS3 and some G.Skill ram - so am I going to have a nightmare of a time with this or have subsequent bios updates removed this problem?

Also once I've installed everything and reformatted the hard drives do I need to flash the Bios or tweak the Bios before I start installing Windows or can I literally stick the stuff in and boot up and then tweak once I'm up and running?

Basically I'm asking whether there is anything I need to know or software I need ready before I format as I will be without the internet until I'm finished.

Many Thanks for reading.
