Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Welcome :)

I have the same GSkill memory, except it's slightly quicker stuff, and it works fine.. and I've updated to every bios as it's been released!

It is always best to do a full reload of Windows when changing major components - i.e. motherboard - as it will have a fit when you boot up first time. I would backup everything you need to onto another HD and/or CD-R, install the new components, install new XP, install drivers, update BIOS to latest (use @BIOS tool on the motherboard CD), install all other programs / data and begin overclocking!! :D

If you need any other help, just ask

Thank You.

I also ordered one of those Western Digital external hard drives - 320GB one so yes I will back up every last bit of what I have on my system now just in case.

I will once everything is backed up format both my internal hard drives and start completely fresh.

So I dont need to mess with the out of the box Bios before I start installing Windows?

I can literally plug in components out of the box, install Windows, update Bios once I'm loaded up - i.e I dont need to have it ready to load on a disc before I install Windows - just download and install once I'm set up?

The only thing I have currently is this: GIGABYTE SATA2 RAID Driver (Preinstall driver) on floppy ready to go.

And thats it? Nothing else I need to know before I'm without internet contact with you guys?

Again Many Thanks

You only need to use a floppy like that if you are setting up RAID. Else, just boot off the Windows CD like normal to install.

The only things you need to do in the BIOS before installing Windows, would be to set the date/time and remove any components you don't need - i.e onboard audio, serial ports etc.

Ok Great Thank You.

Hmm looks like a bit more information needed.

I know I won't need onboard sound as I have my Soundblaster card to go in but I really haven't got a clue what else I dont need.

Could you suggest a link I could goto to figure out what to disable?

Many Thanks, you have helped a great deal - I feel a lot more confident now.

Thank You.

No problem - it's what this thread is for :)

If you check out the first page I put in some details there which may help.. you only really need to disable onboard audio in your case, but it won't do any harm turning off any other extras like serial/parallel ports if you don't need them.

finally got my DS3 set up with an E6400 and Ballistix 6400. No issues whatsoever and sitting at a nice and easy 2.8GHz with everything at stock voltages (i.e. +0.4V for RAM.)

Probably not the place to ask this but as I've been posting here and it's relevent I'll ask.

Which is the best order to format the hard drives, before I install the new components or Install the new stuff first then format.

Basically would it be better to format with the new motherboard/CPU e.t.c installed or format first, with the old stuff in?

Thanks Guys - minutes away from starting so wish me luck.

Hi all - having a problem.

Basically I've installed everything correctly as far as I can see but it won't power on.

All I've done though is connect the power lead and nothing else as I wanted to see if all the fans would work.

Now I'm using the tower power on switch and although I think I have all those little power, power LED, HD LED e.t.c leads in right they may not be.

So has anyone got an idea of what I've done wrong or is there a way to power on the system another way?

Many Thanks.

gfx card with power connectors attached?mem installed?
more details please :)
new case?
if so posibly dodgy switch
short the `power on` connectors with a screwdriver or similar
i.e. what the power on connector should attach to

Nope, old case - working fine before.

Everything is installed.

When I press the power on button there are no led's on, no fault beeps absolutely nothing.

No change from pressing the on button then with the power lead disconnected.

So what would actually prevent the PSU turning on?

I have turned on my old comp before with no memory and it powered on but gave fault beeps so it seems to me either the new PSU is dead or I have not connected something that needs to be to at least show me power is there.

Ok, stripped it all down, disconnected everything and took board out the comp.

All I attached was the CPU fan and then the PSU and it started. I then attached the Power on switch from the HD LED, Power LED blts and it also turened on, so I have eliminated those.

I also checked the mounts and they seemed to be ok - not shorting anything so unless any of you have another idea I guess I'm going to have to remount the board and attach each thing 1 at a time and test.
