Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

nahh i dont need 2GB i think...i amcurrently using 667mhz one but it has held me back on my overclock...so i sold it and plan on getting some new 8000mhz ones...

can someone tell me which of the 2 above will be best for overclocking and if u was me..which one would u buy??

thanks

IMO go for the Geil. But do you play games? If so then go for 2GB. Honestly, you wont regret it in the future. Youll get the money back at the other end.

yeah i do game... but only CS... i would update to 2GB eventually when i use Vista which will prob be quite some time :p

what is the difference between the 2 rams apart from ones 800mhz and 900mhz... would i benefit more with the 900mhz ??

i am hoping to take my rig to 3.4ghz if thats possible with the rams above?

Just thought I'd let everyone know, but I guess you know already, the F9 BIOS is totally pants! :rolleyes: If you can be bothered read my problem here but basically with the F9, When I reset, it would turn itself off and try (unsuccesfully) to reboot about 5 times before defaulting to the factory fsb settings. I suspected the RAM to be causing this, but changed BIOS to F7 and now it's running absolutely fine.
Avoid F9! You have been warned :)

some help please.. okie so no im using

DS3 with E6300 and these Geil 800mhz ram(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-057-GL)

i have tried to to overclock to 3ghz but no way its stable with the ram set to 2.2volts and vcore up to 1.37 :confused: :confused:

*** memory timing should i be setting these? 44412 or 55512???

also using Big Typhoon Cooler which i just installed today...so i hjave all the gear but cnt seem to make good use of it..

hmm

The memory should be on 4-4-4-12 upto 2.3v at stock. How far does the chip overclock to so far? I would try 1.4v and push the northbridge voltage up 0.1v. Have you read the guide on the first page by the way? - make sure unused things are turned off in the BIOS etc. Speaking of which are you running latest BIOS as well? :)

hi yeah im using F7 bios..maybe i should try 2.3v now... atm ive got it 2.45ghz.. what is the northbridge voltage??? yeah i have turned off loads of stuff i have followed a guide....

thanks for quick reply :eek:

I would put it back to what you think is stable, i.e. 2.45GHz and leave it testing for a few hours, up it to 2.60GHz and test etc.... try 1.4 on the core though. Not all 6300s will hit 3.0GHz so you need to find the max with the current setup and then tweak it.

Northbridge voltages are in the same menu - http://server3.uploadit.org/files/wellibob-Image5.jpg - FSB and (G)MCH. I would put these at +0.1v.

If you plan on taking it to 3Ghz and be happy there, then I would not bother if I was you... Leave it at 2.8

Because over 400FSB the strap changes to 1333 and this slows the system down a little, so in fact 3Ghz on the conroe is slower than 2.8

It wont be until you get over 430FSB that it will be worth it.

Prestatyn? - Just down the road from me! - Colwyn Bay isnit!

hi guys, still having problems..

ok my ram is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-057-GL

i have set the ram to +0.5 which is 2.3v ... can i upper it ne more ???

also whats the max vcore u can set it to? ne suggestions? I have Big Typhoon installed for Cpu cooler.

here are some pics... what can i do to get over 3.0ghz... ...Also it says Fail for theDDR18v???
Having spent like extra 100 quid for new ram and cpu cooler id expect it to do a little better than this :( maybe im doing something wrong :confused: :confused: :confused:

First of all the DDR18V is warning with a FAIL

So, set your RAM to +0.3 not +0.5

Although it should allow you to go to +0.5, let not go there right now.

CPU VOLTS = Keep at stock.
PCIE=100
RAM = 400FSB
Multi = 2 ( getting the RAM to 800 )
And keep the RAM settings as the BIOS ses them.

And get rid of those other overvoltages too! - keep them stock or +0.1 only

Erm, thats it!

My CPU goes to 450FSB on stock volts, although it gets a little iffy with stability, it will boot and run just fine.
I have kept all my other volts down too.
And I am using 4x512MB GEIL 6400ULL

what is "strap 1333"?

Good question. I only first came across this when I found that there is a large DIP in performance when overclocking the Conroe above 400FSB

It turns out that the STRAP is running at 1066 at 400FSB or below and 1333 at 401 and above.

What is this strap thingy?

Well, its basically caused by the NB needing it to be at 1333 to allow the NBs Latencies to loosen to make it a big more stable at such high FSBs

Im not really the one to answer the whys on this one, but what you basically get is a real big performance hit.

So, clock away to 400FSB but unless you are going to go to above 430FSB, its not worth hanging around between 400 and 430 cos it will be slower.

So, on the Conroe 6300... 2.8Ghz is faster than 3.0Ghz

hi guys, i finally managed to get my system stable at 3.22ghz

3.2.JPG

temps idle @ 37 & Full Load about 55

I think this is my limit because when i try and adjust the fsb to 470, bios automatically disables it, which sets the speed bk to default of 1.87ghz

I dont know why its working now, because previously i couldnt get stable at 2.8ghz and running on a higher voltage! now i aint touched the vcore, just upped the ram's voltage...

anyway happy with results :D
